Description:
OK, rough mix of the latest AmokOpera song.
It sounds unbalanced to me but I'm not sure what's causing it???
The songs in this "opera" are supposed to be dramatic but this is more cinematic. For the middle section I want you to envisage the politician in an empty ballroom except for the band on stage. The scene is lit with the intermittent light from a mirror ball. The politician is dancing with a beautiful woman. The woman is his conscience and his real self.
Every time they take a circle of the floor the mirror ball throws light on her face and each time it grows progressively more ugly until she is a decaying corpse.
Just thought you'd like to know that.
Lyrics and melody by Graeme Hobbs.

A Contrast! &mdash 02/25/07 - 09:25:21 PM
I found this a refreshing contrast to most stuff on here - great theatrical qualities.Brilliant orchestration, some really interesting and eerie melodies going on.Gerald Scarfe artwork/animation wouldn't be inappropiate with this song. Some of those chords are beautiful.ok I just noticed the word Amokopera - so is this to be performed on stage? I'll have another look at your profile to see if you've written anything about it there.Good stuff! [ Reply to This ]
Ahaa! &mdash 02/25/07 - 09:31:07 PM
Ahaa! I remember now. Will you be staging it in Brighton? My mate from Cardiff and I have decided that we are going back to Brighton this year to visit some of the old haunts. Are you familiar with Komedia at all? or the Sanctuary? or the Gardener Arts? Considering I was down there for 11 years I successfully managed to submit absolutely nothing to the Festival in all that time! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks! &mdash 02/26/07 - 07:55:30 AM
for the kind comments. Coming from such a versatile chap like yourself it's high praise.
The rock opera won't be finished for a while yet (I've still another 6 songs to arrange and record and finish the overture) and I've no idea what to do with it when it is. We've only got the bare bones of a story but nothing substantial.
I know the Komedia and was there recently seeing The Danielsons. Haven't been to the Sanctuary for years or the Gardner Arts Centre. Ridiculous really, all this culture and I lock myself away in my basement :)
Drop me a message if you fancy a pint or two when you're down here.
Cheers
Dick

Dark and brooding &mdash 02/26/07 - 09:28:39 AM
Overall the decline of the character is clear. The whispering vocal lines maybe have too much bass and not enough mid because those words are not clear. The rest of the vocals are very powerful and the orchestration creates the mood well.
I'll be listening for the next installment! [ Reply to This ]
I messed up the mix!! &mdash 03/01/07 - 03:42:35 PM
Due to my own stupidity I really did get an unbalanced mix on this. I have hopefully corrected it and re-eqd those whispered vocals so they weren't so buried.
I'm worried that I'll run out of ideas for the others :O
Thanks for your support
Cheers

Well written and well arranged &mdash 02/27/07 - 10:28:36 AM
I would like to hear more from this production. Best of luck to you with this effort. The lyrics definitely ring true for me; wish you had printed them. I can evision myself enjoying this production in the theater (theatre?). Good Job!....................Joe [ Reply to This ]

Arranging amazing &mdash 03/26/07 - 12:50:45 PM
Dick -another quality piece of work from you. There's a definite Floyd/ Wall feel here. This fits in well with the previous work. I really hope you get to stage this, because it's a real piece of art/theatre that you're constructing here.
i take my hat off to you - you're producing original, intelligent work of consistent quality - I hope you find the audience you deserve.

Thanks Steve &mdash 03/26/07 - 01:53:20 PM
Much appreciated! I'm running out of ideas now though. I've got another 4 or 5 songs and no bloody ideas.......
Still looking for a producer with lots of money but then again aren't we all ?
Cheers

it doesn't sound like you're short on ideas yet, Dick.
What do you need a producer for?
This stuff sounds fantastic! Really, I hope you get somewhere with this, it deserves to be heard.

The producer has to fund the film &mdash 03/26/07 - 05:29:53 PM
There's gratuitous sex and violence apart from the music so someone should be interested ;-)
