Description
Some of my finer bass playing and some inspired grooves with a few lyrics from SickTransit (Chris) and some bass and drums by me. A little LA sound and a bit of Joy Division?

Lyrics
Dreamgirl
(Lyrics by Chris Winters, Music by Rich Huston, Chris Winters)

She comes to me in the nighttime
Never with the light
Whispers pleasant nothings
Makes everything all right
She leaves with the sunrise
Gone without a trace
Sensations slowing fading
With the image of her face

She’s the one for me
If only in my dream
It’s so much better than
What’s in reality
She’s the one for me
If only in my dream
Please don’t try to wake me up
From this fantasy

If I seem distracted and I
Don’t hear what you say
It’s the girl who waits for me
At the end of the day
No one else can see her
She’s a secret friend of mine
In my private night theater with her
Sensual pantomime

Please don’t ever ask me if I’ll
Ever introduce her
She’s the one I can’t expose
Or I fear I will lose her

Morrison Meets Davies
Your voice is very distinctive and sounds like a cross between Jim Morrison and Ray Davies. Good vocal and I also liked your harmonies.

Good guitar and bass, but the drums sound machine like.

Good job.

Me likey
This is great. It's catchy and has lots of good bass and guitar licks. The vocals are really great, giving the song a lot of character and style. I like the dry treatment too. The overall mix sounds good to me but I suspect something could be adjusted to fill it out a litle more; not sure and I don't have time right now to listen that close.

But I really like this song. It definitely has a feel of some of the older classics of alternative rock and even early Bowie.

fixes
I feel the mix is too thin, too much empty space between the bass and the treble. Would like to hear some ideas on how to fix it if you have any.

great song
i like the dryness for more direct sound. i notice the comment of "filling in" alot of times i use 2 acoustics panned hard to each side doesn't need to be predominant but at times it makes a difference. also give em a high pass filter around 270. it might sound a little thin on there own, but helps define a space

Joy Division????
Well, dunno about that, not really sure who this sounds like guys, other than you, tho' the vox are kinda Bowie around Hunky Dory-ish, but some of the best Chris has done (really nice harmonies).
This is a great little number, with a killer chorus.

In terms of the mix, the bass and drums take a bit of a back seat - the vocals sound a little to loud to me in parts, and overpower everything else.

I always struugle with bass, and often mix 2 bass parts, EQ'd differently , together, to help the bottom end. Also, I sometimes put a little ambient keyboard in (I had to do this in the verses of Rachel Said) to help fill out the spectrum.

:-)
I like the guitar progression, you could possible distinguish better between the guitar parts w/ a little panning.
I was going to comment on how your voice reminded me of someone, then i read everyone else's comments and maybe I should just say "well done" rather than add to the pile of comparisons.
I like your Strat tone too.

thanks
It's the middle pickup on the strat. I like that it has a nice edge but still has some good mid-to-bottom range. It's an amp model, of course, but I played it straight with a little drive (plus all that watery chorus and rockin' the wah during the fills).
