Description:
This is another song I would like to dedicate to Stephanie Wood. I composed this song about four years ago, but for some reason, I never got around to recording it . . . that is, until this evening. I've always thought of this song as music intended to encourage. Getting to know Stephanie has encouraged me to record this song. In turn, I hope that this song will encourage her along life's long journey.

Hardware:
Alvarez Guitar

Software:
Garage Band II

yes, nice playing &mdash 02/27/07 - 06:09:45 PM
You play really beautifully and with a delicate touch. It's a very pretty piece of music. It must be a real pleasure to perform, possibly why recording it was put off for so long, simply enjoying bringing it to life each time with the guitar.

Beautiful Playing &mdash 03/04/07 - 08:15:20 AM
Please take comfort from the fact that the low votes some idiots gave you were nothing to do with the quality of your playing or your composition skills, rather their own idiocy and envy. Don't let them get to you. This is a lovely piece, well done.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I realize that there are vote bombers on this website and I shouldn't let them get to me. It is very aggravating, though. But I'm just going to ignore them and keep posting my music because I know that the majority of the folks on here are serious about their craft and know how to respect that in other musicians. Thanks again for the encouraging words.

You masterfully give a sensitive and professional guitar performance here. I am really so enjoying this. I saw your forum post on voting and had to come and check out this song. Glad I did. This one is a gem!

beautiful &mdash 03/05/07 - 10:31:48 AM
my main instrument is acoustic! i write everything on it. it has such an intimate sound... you capture that very, very well.
this reminds me of listening to phil keaggy!
very articulate, emotional, and soulful. Thanks for sharing, my day is brighter now :)

Thanks for listening and for the great comment, Jason. Yep, these days, I compose mostly on the acoustic, as well. I read your profile and I, too, had to develop some vocal skills a long time ago out of "necessity," though I won't be using them here. I reserve them usually for playing live. You got to support the one-man show, you know. Again, thanks for checking out my music. I will be heading over to listen to your work later today. Can't wait!

very nice &mdash 04/26/07 - 02:06:49 PM
Very nice work on this - I am glad you finally recorded it. I love the use of overtones. I wonder if you are going direct into Garageband or via a mic? It is such a lovely piece, I would like to hear a little more air in the mix - something to ease off the harshness - don't get me wrong, I really like it and think it sounds great overall, I would just like it to be a little more tender, production wise.

great playing, very nice indeed.

Thank you - I enjoyed this very much.

Thank you for the kind words, Kayle. I'm glad you liked this peice. Yes, I'm going directly into Garage Band. Actually, I don't own a microphone right now, so I have to plug directly into the computer. I've noticed that it really hurts the quality of sound when it comes to attempting a warm acoustic tone. Maybe one of these days I'll have the resources to invest in a good audio/midi interface and some decent mics. Thanks again for listening and for commenting.

like the variation &mdash 04/30/07 - 10:36:27 PM
in the chordal arpeggios, also what is refreshing is the open tuning effect. Nice resolve into the ending chord.
The whole piece was a fun listen. Like the electric acoustic effect. Sounds like a nylon electric and that can be terrific as you just did. So as in reading, it is ok not to have a mic. Maybe you have one now, but this sound is very effective approach for listeners I think.

Soar &mdash 05/16/07 - 01:21:24 AM
When I close my eyes when this song plays I picture an eagle flying over mountains. The air is coming off the mountains and the eagle just glides on the warm air. Either that or I picture myself falling off of a cliff. It's a peaceful decent and the warm air cradles my body as a glide toward Earth. I never reach Earth because I cannot reach it, and my body/soul are at peace. I guess your song is more like an out of body experience. It's very peaceful and transcendental. When music can transform people like this it is quite a gift. Your acoustic guitar sound and playing is very nice indeed. I'm not sure how you mic'd your Alvarez up but I would buy two condensers, and get a nice lush stereo image. That would take it to the next level. Thanks for sharing your wonderful song.

Adam, I'm sorry I'm just getting around to thanking you for your wonderful comment. To be honest, I've been trying to figure out how best to say thank you to someone who finds my music "transcendental." No one has ever referred to anything I've created as that. It's kind of mind-blowing and I'm beyond flattered. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your immensely wonderful comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the song and that it meant something to you.

Excellent guitar work and a lovely tune. The guitar sound is pretty good considering it's plugged in. Glad you got around to recording this. Thanks.

Peter, thank you for stopping by and listening to the music. I'm glad you liked it. Hopefully by the time I do another acoustic recording, I will have bought myself a couple good mics. I think that will really bring out those deeper tones and warm nuances. Again, thanks for listening and for the wonderful comment.

Happy 12 months Ron! &mdash 06/11/07 - 06:51:11 PM
I have been slack in listening to your music - I think I may have caught one song in 12 months - my apologies. Your playing here is really beautiful - not sure how long you've spent on this over the time it has existed, but your joy in producing this is tangible, even through the digital ether in which we co-exist.
As far as the recording of acoustic guitar goes, I've been getting some great sounds from my Seagull using the two built-ins (one saddle transducer and one electret microphone) as well as my Rode NT3. I run the guitar mics into one track (panned L) and the mic into another (panned R) to get a really full sound. Cori Ander and thetiler get amazing sounds, and both have been really helpful in sorting my acoustic sound out.
Lovely song, beautifully played.

i can imagine hiking with some new friends and coming upon this waterfall. we sit on the rocks, and someone pulls out a Martin backpacker and plays this song...

i'm there.

Thanks for listening and for the wonderful compliment. You know, I never really thought about the waterfall part, but maybe you're onto something there. I could see that sort of thing happening, too. I figured that since this was a "calm" piece of music, I would use a photo that paralleled calmness. The waterfall photo was pretty much the only thing I had in iPhoto at the time. Again, thanks for listening and for the nice comment.

Thank you for listening and for commenting, Alvin. I think you're the first person to call my tone "crisp." That means a lot to me because I always worry that, because I don't use mics and plug directly into my Mac, my sound isn't as good as it could be. Of course, some good mics would still make this piece a million times better. Thanks again!
