Description:
This piece is essentially a cut-up of a section of my track The Cool Breeze and originally formed part of a 45 minute looped soundscape I created to accompany the iSlug art installation at the Horsebridge Arts Centre, Whitstable last August. Whilst it worked fine ambiently, as a purely listening experience there were parts I was unhappy with so I've reworked (or disguised) the dodgy bits and introduced some fresh elements. It's all performed on acoustic fiddle (on occasions treated beyond recognition...)

Fantastic, Komrade! I was craving some fiddle today!

Setting it on loop this morning and just... oooh images... pretty colors...

very picturesque &mdash 02/28/07 - 08:45:54 AM
This evokes a calm peaceful, somewhat introspective scene to me. Gorgeous playing and mixing. The little motif you play and then echo, gives the feeling of a bird-call, so I feel like I'm at the edge of a forest somewhere. Really rich beautiful work here, as usual! Whatever little bobbles you didn't like, you must've removed them well.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Thanks Drak &mdash 03/05/07 - 04:44:28 PM
I was probably being fussy but there were bits of the original which didn't really work for me. My efforts to cover these up inspired some fresh ideas so I'm really glad I reworked it.

Entrancing &mdash 02/28/07 - 09:47:26 AM
I've never been to Sedgefield itself, but I ought to if it's as idyllic as this suggests (shame about their MP). A breezy and spacious arrangement which lets the fiddle fill the space with enchanting subtlety. Makes me want to go out and squidge through a peat bog. Wahey!

I guess there's a bit of irony in the title... ;)

Very evocative..... &mdash 02/28/07 - 01:25:34 PM
This piece was very evocative, of Gaelic mood and 'something coming'. I felt that with the motives used, the piece could have gone on developing and, to me, wouldn't have been too long.

I do hope that you post more of this type of stirring and stimulating music.

Paul.

...this is a bit of a departure for me - my previous posting is probably the closest thing I'll do to it for a while but who knows? Thanks for listening.

Beautiful! &mdash 03/01/07 - 11:27:05 PM
Very wistful piece - my dad was from Northumberland, and this somehow reminds me of him. Very moody tune, nicely produced Martyn.
Cheers,
Neil

...you and others have picked up on the production, that's really what this track has been about so I'm really chuffed at that. Northumberland is a very beautiful part of the country which sadly I haven't spent much time in (although I do know that there's some cracking music from them parts...)

It just doesn't sound 'slice and dice'... &mdash 03/02/07 - 08:12:41 AM
...It sounds organic, natural, fractal as nature...

Drakonis is right about the evocation of bird song... Jim is right about how cool it sounds over headphones... I guess everyone is right, now that I come to scan it... I'll have to let you know about cj's pretty colors...

It's fiddle, and right pretty fiddle at that, but bits remind me of some old Fripp and Eno things.... I like the very sweet tone you're using here... It suits the purpose...

Quite beautiful.

...it doesn't sound 'slice and dice' I worked hard at that!! Mentioning Eno and Fripp is bang on the money - a huge influence one way and another.

Well I simply had to come and listen to one of your tunes after the yumptious comment you left on our little song. Yes I know it was six months ago but I've been verrrrrry busy having my toenails polished by a team of Siberian masseurs.

Oooooh, this is scrummy! Is that lovely noise really made by scraping a tuft of horsehair over some catsguts? Well I'll be jiggered. What a clever ickle fiddle player you are! *pinches cheek*

Lovely &mdash 03/04/07 - 08:58:35 PM
With a title like that I had to have a listen (Siegfried Idyll is a fantastic, beautiful expression of love by Richard W. for his wife Cosima, and I thought perhaps this was your take on it), but, although it wasn't what I thought it might be, I'm very glad to have heard it! It is lovely, lonely, moody, haunting, and pretty. And more, but I'm running out of adjectives. My only suggestion is that it really feels like it could go on a lot longer and still hold the listener's interest. Might you continue to work on this?

You're not the first person... &mdash 03/14/07 - 06:51:03 PM
...who's suggested this should be longer and originally it was going to be (I was going to use more material from the source tune) but it kinda reached a natural rest to my ears so I left it. I do worry about making tracks over long but maybe it would be a good idea to revisit it at some point when I have had some distance from it.

Many thanks for your comments.

KK

PS - I know that Wagner piece very well!
