Keywords:
a song without words (1)
Description:
This is kind of a "Hummm, let-me-see-what-I-think-about-that" sort of composition. It looks at bits and pieces of thought, but all in the same sort of manner or mood, never in a hurry; always musing; and without ever making a decision. That's left to tomorrow.

Hardware:
Roland RD-700 Keyboard

Ivory German Concert Grand

masterful contemplation &mdash 03/02/07 - 08:15:25 AM
So, even when you are doodling around at the piano, it sounds good... unless this is actually a practiced piece on contemplation. I like the way it starts very tentatively, and then as you play with the theme, you pick up steam. If this *is* practiced, then I would suggest just before the 1/2 way mark getting tentative again, once you get going, since you don't seem to slow back down, but instead build beautiful momentum toward the sweet ending... just like a real piece. The pace remains slow, but the piece fills out and starts sounding rich and grand, and never regains the "hmm... what about this" quality to my ears. Of course, if you really were just experimenting and recording an "impromptu session", then you are just too good, and it didn't work! (smirk) Anyway, this is a lovely piece, soft and lyrical.

Candlelit &mdash 03/02/07 - 12:15:35 PM
Chopin meets Mancini over wine to talk about the vacation they always wanted to take with someone no longer in their lives. Every note precious.

Very sweet and lovely ... soulful and controlled playing, beautiful tone and lovely expression. A very fine piece indeed.

It's amazing &mdash 03/03/07 - 08:44:57 AM
how your thoughts travel down into your fingertips and onto the piano keys to create emotional messages. It's like you are contemplating one thing, then you say "Hmmm... or I could do this..." Not a serious decision, though, the peaceful, dreamy kind of thoughts like just before falling asleep. Very pretty piece, Paul.

Ivory may give you the sounds... &mdash 03/03/07 - 06:19:06 PM
But your playing puts the feel in it... the air, the sense of real hands playing real keys, with a real heart behind it all...

This is the piano equivalent of what I love in Cori Ander's instrumental improvisations... Not that they're stylistically similar, but in that I hear the human heart coming through the hands of someone who has achieved such mastery that the instrument no longer stands as a barrier between them and expression...

Well-Crafted; Phat - 00 - &mdash 03/03/07 - 06:47:59 PM
This is lovely. Extraordinarily well-crafted and performed. You give the impression that these compositions come very easily to you; if so, that's a wonderful combination of a blessing and a lifetime of being a musician, and I hope we get to hear many more of your works.

Beautiful playing and tone - &mdash 03/03/07 - 08:00:30 PM
really exceptional depth and expression from a digital voice. I loved riding the flow of your thoughts and emotions. I heard little bits of musical signposts - but no actual quotes or cliches. A real accomplishment.

very pleasant &mdash 03/03/07 - 09:09:46 PM
As I listen to your newest piece,it is an hour after sunset. I sit in my livingroom, the steady stream of traffic just outside on Main St. has dwindled, and the town grows quiet.

This music is perfect for a late-afternoon "chilling" session. It is contemplative, uncluttered by too many notes or textures. Just solo piano played with feeling.

Thank you.

Instant "Page" Classic! &mdash 03/05/07 - 01:40:31 PM
Simply marvellous. So beautiful in its calm simplicity and depth. Enjoyed every note. When listening I imagined sceneries of landscapes with falling leaves, pondering the transient nature of life with all its beauty. Heard and orchestra accompanying in the background and just appreciated once again the sound of a piano being played so soulfully...how inspiring.

Deep living presence &mdash 03/05/07 - 05:12:41 PM
Deep and beautiful. With the living presence that comes from a player who is, though relaxed, aware of every moment, every second. So the music lives and keeps me alive, from beginning till it stops.

In my mind I see a room where the sun shines in through the window on wooden floors. Lightly furnished. Rag-rugs. Light colours. A place and a moment of serenity. It is summer.
