dreamers (1)hope (81)country (101)folk rock (39)love (904)forgive (1)
Description:
This is a remake/remix of one of the first two songs I posted here at MacJams in June 2004. I posted a second version in 2005 with Bill Furner and Richard Schletty. Richard also posted his own vocal version. I have never been satisfied with either of my versions. So here is a new one that includes a new lead vocal, a new drum track, a bunch of stuff edited out, and a production remix. This version still features Richard singing backup vocals and Bill playing lead acoustic guitar.

One of my favorites... hope you like it.

Lead acoustic guitar: Bill Furner
Bacup vocals: Richard Schletty
Lead vocal, rhythm guitar, guitar noodling at end of song, tin flute: Jack Miller
Drums, bass, & organ: Loops

** Be sure to check out Richard's version:

Lyrics:
Dreams are for dreamers like me,
Dreaming each day of what could be.
Wondering where you're staying tonight,
Dreaming of still holding you tight.

Dreaming of how our love was so strong,
Wondering how it all went so wrong.
Dreaming of you and me,
Dreaming that we still can be.
Praying that you'll come back to me.

Dreams are for dreamers like me,
Dreaming each night of what could be.
Laying here hoping you are all right,
Knowing somehow we'll make this thing right.

Wishing that you'd forgive me once more,
Dreaming that you'd come back through that door.
To regain what is lost,
I would pay any cost.
Just to have you back with me.

-Instrumental-

Dreams are for dreamers like me,
Dreaming right now of what can be.
Wondering if your're wondering too,
Hoping there's hope for me and you.

Dreaming of you dreaming of me,
Knowing somehow you still believe.
That you love me too,
Just like I love you.
And some day this dream will come true!

Beautiful production. Don't know how you could improve on it anymore after this! Seems us Macjams pioneers don't post much anymore. Good to hear you Schletty and Bill together again.

Way back... &mdash 03/03/07 - 07:15:42 PM
yeah Bronco, almost 3 years for me... some of my fondest collaborations were with Rich and Bill... two great guys. Their parts in this version are from the original.

The lineup here at MJ has certainly been changing. For my part I plan on sticking around and putting up more songs... hopefully with Rich and Bill on occassion.

Thanks for listening and I am glad you liked this version. Always good to hear from you.

This song! &mdash 03/03/07 - 07:49:02 PM
This song is so right. I have sung it out twice at Old Man River Cafe...and plan to do it again on April 27.

Ah, those were the good old days...when we were just starting this collaboration stuff and had few clues how to do it right. Jack, you pretty much nailed it on this mix. What next? Move next door to Bill?

Good old days... &mdash 03/03/07 - 07:54:32 PM
They were, weren't they. Yeah we were just fumbling and bumbling around back then. Now we're just bumbling. I am glad to your ear this sounds good. This was one of my most enjoyable collaborations. Maybe another down the road...

cheers

i can hardly tell.. &mdash 03/03/07 - 09:13:32 PM
... anymore what style I am playing. There are so many influences and so many styles I like playing. If you hear some tropical... that works for me. Spent almost 20 years in the sub-tropics on the Atlantic coast of south Florida, so there you go.
Glad to have you drop by and comment. As I said, this is one of my favorites.
cheers, Vic!

I can see why it's one of your favourites Jack! &mdash 03/04/07 - 12:01:05 AM
Laid back feel and nice production - a very satisfying listen. How many months makes one a pioneer?? Haven't seen a post with Bill on it for a while now, so especially nice to hear this - Richard is the master of the oohs and aahs for certain. Good song, well sung and played Jack. How many months makes one a pioneer??

Truth is... &mdash 03/04/07 - 12:19:25 AM
here at MacJams we're all pioneers. This whole artist/music/internet thing is barely begun. But if you need a more precise answer then you're gonna have to ask Bronco... but I wouldn't argure with him.... ; ) Besides, I'm more of a 55 year old rookie than an old pioneer... heheh.

I am pretty pleased with how this mix turned out. Mainly tweaking a lot of dials I hadn't used before in GB... and dropping a couple unneeded tracks... plus adding the vocal redo and the new drum track. But what Rich and Bill did on this song is as good as the day they recorded it 2 years ago. I miss Bill... wonder what he's doing...

I appreciate always when you give me a nod on a song... why? You got the folk rock goods... probably 'cause you were pioneering back in the seventies with your band!

cheers

What Me Argue? &mdash 03/04/07 - 11:49:26 PM
You must have been talking to Amagi, or maybe Snowdragon, or perhaps Schletty or was it mandodelinquent? Oh, okay so I do like to argue! But not about this. If you feel like a pioneer then you are one. And it is probably more truthful to say that it is not that the pioneers don't still post but that I don't keep up with whether they do or not like I once did. And that is a factor of so many new people posting and other sites that I post at and go to occasionally now. I guess I was just thinking of the days when I would pop up the Macjams page and always see five or six of the regulars on the first page and that doesn't happen often anymore. And by regulars I mean the people that I was most familiar with and identified with most, not that there aren't plenty of people who post regularly. And Jiguma, I do consider you a pioneer and you are one of the ones whose music I could identify with!

Really fine production, sounds like this is the Take to me.

Very Best,

Well RTC... if you think this is The Take, then I'll take that! I doubt I'll be revisiting this one. Like I said, I'm feeling good about this one. I appreciate your two cents and taking the time to give this a listen. Take care...

made me dream &mdash 03/04/07 - 01:25:54 PM
This is one of the best songs/productions I've heard from you Jack. The mix seems very well balanced and the drums and bass was smooth and made a good ground for the rest to play upon. Your singing here is also a delight to hear. You sound confident and deliver a spot on performance.

Richards backing vox are great, and to may taste well placed in the mix.

Bills guitar is great as usual. So is the flute.

And the melody and the total feel of the song was the kind that made me close my eyes... and dream:)

Bravo!

Does this mean?? &mdash 03/04/07 - 06:00:46 PM
Does this mean I get to be in the band?! LOL. I promise to bring along Rich and Bill... : )

My vocal in the older versions is the main thing that I wanted to redo. I decided to just sing it this time without "trying" to sound good... just sing with my voice. Maybe it worked. And as I said earlier, I deleted some extraneous tracks and edited out some areas of poor recording (noise in background) on other tracks. Plus daring to use some of the production quality parts of GBand that I tend not to pay attention to.

Bill and Rich... you said it. They both are unique talents. I was thankful they wanted to help on this song.

... when do the new band rehearsals start??

on the way. I am sure of at least that!

Islandy it is then. I am a laid back kind of guy who once dreamt of sailing to the tropical islands southeast of Florida and just enjoying life. Instead, I am back in California... enjoying life and thankful for the simple pleasures.

I appreciate your listening and commenting.

I really like the melody here, Jack.... &mdash 03/04/07 - 07:02:55 PM
...and the lyrics are simple and clear, which is as I usually like things... And the patented Dadai vibe, a general good-heartedness, whether the song is 'up' or 'down', is present... the person that comes across in the song is a likeable one...

Bill's fills are really neat and tasteful... His own compositions are really strong, but I wish I could hear him in the support role a little more... He's really good at it... Makes a great second guitar...

Leave it to you... &mdash 03/04/07 - 09:01:32 PM
the one thing I kept trying to do and didn't, you pick up on... Bill's wonderful guitar track. You have such a good ear for what a song should sound like. The reason his track isn't as prominent in places as you would like (or I wanted) is that this 2 year old recording of Bill's was rife with background noise... street traffic sounds, chairs moving, and general ambient background noise. I just couldn't find a way to keep his volume up in parts due to that problem. So... there you go. I agree... Bill's playing should be volumed up a notch or too... if only. By the way, that is why I purchased SoundSoap (which wouln't work on my G3 computer. Probably, someone more up to speed on the various options in GB could have tweaked it enough... I gave up.

"the person that comes across is a likeable one"... there you go counselor... nailing it once again... the kid's got no edge... likeable... like vanilla ice cream... tasty but very middle of the road. C'est moi.

As always, I look forward to your comments... thanks for listening and for the feedback.... how much is your fee? ; )
cheers.

the "one thing" &mdash 03/04/07 - 09:19:11 PM
Not to say there aren't other things I could envision to be better in this song... just that Bill's guitar part, reducing the noise, and it not having more volume in places was my main focus in the remix.

and once again, cheers...

But that wasnt what I meant... &mdash 03/04/07 - 11:17:21 PM
What I actually was trying to say was this:

I like how Bill sounds here (in the support role), and I wish he would do more of it (i.e., playing second guitar on other people's stuff)...

I wasn't criticizing the mix at all.

Ed... &mdash 03/05/07 - 01:22:58 AM
I didn't take it as cricitism. Rather that you touched on what was already going through my mind as I was mixing this. I understand that you weren't taking issue... I guess I just took what you said to tie more into the song itself regarding Bill than it did... and yet, taking it that way was spot on. Maybe I was giving you too much credit for hearing things in the mix... but all is good. Herein is the friggin' problem with communicating through comments and the internet... one doesn't catch the intonation of one's words and the expression on one's face. Sorry for the misunderstanding... my fault. But, again, I didn't receive your comments as criticism...

And as far as my other comment regarding "likeable"... my accessment of myself stands. I am only stating what I know to be true. My stream of consciousness sometimes bleeds into my remarks. Nothing more.

Now I really wish we could have one of those walks somewhere in the Boston area... to chat...

certifiably,
D

Always good to know if you like one of these tunes. Bill's guitar licks, indeed, give this song that extra something. On other songs my voice has been compared to Cash's... I have never thought that. His voice is just one of those unique ones. But it's something to be mentioned in the same breath with him. Much thanks.

Solid tune &mdash 03/09/07 - 07:24:46 PM
Well, there's a lot to like about this song; the singing, especially with those backing vocals, the production and casual groove, Bill's flourishes that add fanciness to the whole song, and the other instrumental touches. A lot of talent and care went into this production and it shows, great work!

This was just as delicious the second time through. I like this one a little more. the organ that solo section, its just a little more organic. Stellar guitar paying and vocal work btw...like it alot

Really nice instrumentation/vocal and production, here, Dadai. And I love the way the music stays upbeat while the lyrics are pinin' away. Gives a ray of hope to the situation.
Couldn't help but eavesdrop on the first post, here (and your reply). It's strange and sometimes sad to see time's passing. Sorry you're missing some of your friends here. I'm one of the newbies. Very happy you're sticking around.

funny, I never thought about the confusing message of that pic. I must have been lost in a dream or something.

I had a lot of solid help on this one. So credit gets spread around to my two music mates. Bill hasn't been around for a while... too bad. He is one of the finest finger picking and slide guitar guys around. He adds some really great slide and picking to another song of mine, Don't Let It Slip Away [2005]... another picture of my old boat... but, again, not a boat song, heheh. Although I have a better mix on another site. I wouldn't be surprised to see him again though. Rich is a little scarce also... but he's around.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to this song. I really appreciate it.
