Description:
Lyrics/Chords 1988.Recorded March,2007.This is quite a spiritual song for me,as I wrote it when I was still at school, and it makes me think of lying in the fields during lunchtime and lying in the grass looking up at cloudless blue skies. There was an old gypsy man who used to live in a wooden caravan with shire horses and instead of thinking about a career I used to aspire to what seemed to be his way of life - free.In the song even though I'm using quite sparkly romantic chords,I'm trying to convey in the lyrics that here is a someone willing to tell you what you want to know about the past or future, but at a price you may regret but he is not someone to be messed with or taken lightly, though in appearance he seems like a happy spirit, wild and free. Some 'Yes' fans may also hear their influence in this tune as I was heavily into 'Close To The Edge' in 1988!

footnote:

if you listened to this drugged up or on a reccomendation from me,your future will be fucking on FIRE!!!

Lyrics:
** The Old Fortune Teller **

I can see the past I hold it in my hand
All the trouble that you reap
And the soldiers that will sleep
And I can see the future and its in my eyes
When the trees will tell you stories like
Youve never heard before
La La La...

Just like a stream your life goes running by
And the bells begin to chime, celebrate the end of time
Steeples rise and mornings sing their song again
And I turn around to see
The human race look back at me
La La La...

In time...
In time...

I have been sleeping for a 1000 years
But now I sing again
The stars will shine above for you and I
I wish for now and then
And when the colours fade I shall return
And watch the stormy skies
All things shall come to you if you believe
The teller never lies

Cross my palm with silver
I'll tell you what you want to hear
Cross my palm with silver
Now hunt me for a 1000 years
Cross my palm with silver
I'll tell you what you REALLY fear -
Cross my palm with silver
And soon your pain shall dissapear..
La La La...
In time..

I loved the instrumental ending.... &mdash 03/04/07 - 04:20:15 AM
The singing/voice was again excellent. To me you have different voices on every song. The only thing that gives you away is a slight accent underlying words.

I enjoyed the story and could see how you might have been influenced.

Take care.

Paul.

DIFFERENT VOICES &mdash 03/04/07 - 02:29:40 PM
Yes - I heard an excellent description someone made of themselves once - a guitarist I knew who said he was musically schizophrenic.I didn't know what he meant at the time and I'm stil not sure, but hopefully its the music thats different more than my voice - Thank you (:

I like this music - A Lot! I don't know how it makes me feel. It take me to another place. Not many compositions in these days give me this feeling.

Beautiful. Sweeping and hypnotic. Warm and cozy. Clean and sweet. I like.

In your hand &mdash 03/07/07 - 12:12:08 PM
With her hand on the face of the moon, she foretells the coming again of self. So many places to find God. Lalala and soon our pain will disappear. Lovely fun in this.

Dancing along the edges &mdash 03/08/07 - 08:45:16 AM
Close to the Edge is one of my all time favs. I listened to it over and over in college. This also reminds me of the solo albums Jon Anderson came out with, especially "Olias of Sunhillow" (1976) and "Song of Seven (1980). Music of happiness and light. Very enjoyable.

Ahhhh &mdash 03/09/07 - 01:17:12 PM
Olias of sunhillow - I've only heard it once - in scotland, but for some reason the cover to the vinyl is crystal clear in my head - lots of swirlies and jon anderson in a circle in the middle. Now I'm going to have to see if they've got it on itunes - bet they haven't,although then again they might have - think I'm gonna ask about that in a forum somwhere. Thanks Tobin - saw Steve Howe at Hove Town Hall,Sussex a few years ago now - he had a little guitar shop down there. He did some fine rags - I even felt proud to see the original Roger Dean Fragile backdrop they had hanging behind on the stage. Was with a bit of an excited woman though also who had other ideas up in the empty balcony above...! I couldn't concentrate - I was there for the music... and she was more of a Steve Vai fan..! Too much fingertappin for me

Hypnotic and soothing.... I love your lyrical story telling... along with your different take on the musical presentation... I have to say Yes stopped me in my trax and sent me in new directions... I play guitar because of Steve Howe

its really true you re invent with every tune. Some exceptionally powerful tunes but the thing that impreses me the most is you ability to morph to the desired channel. Way cool
