Description:
Lonely ghost lounge singer...

Lyrics:
I'm the loneliest ghost
This side of the graveyard
I'm the saddest soul
You're gonna meet
It's time for my spirits to rise
I'm coming for you, my sweet

I'm gonna haunt you, valentine
Oh, just as soon as I find you
I'll send shivers down your spine
'Til you're mine

Do you believe in ghosts?
Do you believe in me
As I believe in you?
Do you believe in me?
Do you believe in ghosts?

I'm the loneliest ghost
This side of the graveyard
I'm the saddest soul
You'll ever meet
It's time for my spirits to rise
I'm coming for you, my sweet

I'm gonna hunt you 'til I find you
I'll send shivers down your spine
I'm gonna haunt you 'til you're mine
Valentine

Do you believe in ghosts?
Do you believe in me
As I believe in you?
Do you believe in me?
Do you believe in ghosts?

persistently haunting &mdash 03/06/07 - 08:46:49 AM
Very very nice... I like the bare (Tango?) music backing, very sweet and light, keeping me holding my breath. Your singing and harmony fits this perfectly. However, the singing could be improved... again you needed a pop-filter, and some of the harmonies were a little tentative, and should have been sung a little stronger, but mostly, your enunciation on the main vocal line could have been better (or the EQ could have been less muffled), because it was very hard to hear the words. I found if I stopped reading along, I could not make out many of them... and the lyrics are great too, so its worth hearing. I would LOVE to hear this re-recorded now, with your better microphone... this is a hauntingly sweet piece that deserves to be heard. I like the "shivers down your spine" part where you add the descending wail. Nice!

Drakonis

Thanks &mdash 03/08/07 - 03:59:55 PM
for listening, Drakonis! :)

I am confused about the genre - i used a preset in my keyboard that was called Beguine, so i listed that-- somewhere here, although i don't see where it is now.

On the other site i post my songs at, i listed it as Lounge, and that is really what i had in mind, but it isn't a genre option here. But a few others have mentioned Tango and i can hear that in it. I wonder if i should change it to that...

Anyway, thanks again for your feedback. It's about two years old, like October, and i still didn't know enough about vocal recording and pop filters and things like that, then. :D

I would like to go back and re-record some of my vocals on the older tunes using my better mic and filter, but there are a number of reasons i've not done that yet.

What a great idea. Not only a cool concept in and of itself, but it works perfectly with your style and voice. Ever read "A Fine and Private Place" by Peter S. Beagle, all about ghosts and dealing with post-life sadness and surprises? Even tho I realize your song also has relationship analogies, which makes it so cool, I think you'd like the book, cuz it does too. Wonderful details within a spare and simple arrangement. Excellent track.

I am very happy you liked it! ::beams::

No, i've never read that book but it sounds fascinating and like something i'd enjoy, so i shall have to find it and read it. Thanks for the recommendation!

And thank you for listening and responding. :)

I always get a thrill out of your voice. This is really cool. Love the tango and the creeping flow. Very stylish and hypnotic. I'm glad you over here at MJ now, too.

I think it's sublime exactly as it is &mdash 03/06/07 - 06:41:28 PM
If I can very very respectfully disagree with Drakonis (sorry Drak! :) ) ... I think the slight rough edge is the very reason this song touches me on such a deep emotional level and sounds so magical. It's so gorgeously fragile it makes me want to hold my breath while I'm listening to it. I wouldn't change any of it because it has honesty and spontaneity which would probably be spoiled if you tried to polish it up.

I'd go for the soulful take over the polished and perfected one every time! You go girl.

May I humbly suggest ..... &mdash 03/07/07 - 06:19:32 AM
...... a duo at some stage with moorlandt?

I really love your voice, but even more, the way you use it. This a superb song, and I'm really pleased you made contact at MacIdol. Playing is well done - only nit is the slight plosive problems on the voice mic. A pop filter is highly recommended if you don't already have one - I couldn't believe the difference it made. New mic will be even better.

Really good stuff!!!!!

I forgot all about this one but I just wanted to say how much I like it. You have a very good voice and I would like to hear it straight up sometime. I know this is your style and I respect that.
Your backing track is at a very high level as usual.
Good job!!!

Enchanting &mdash 03/09/07 - 06:32:33 PM
dark and scary, interesting and pretty. Very seducing piece of music. I love that 3/4 measure. Feels like I'm dancing a macabre ghost waltz with you on it. Of course - and like suggested in previous comments - the vocal recording could certainly be enhanced. But the song is interesting enough for me to look 'through' that little technical issue. I'm enchanted.

Love the Vibe! Sooo sexy and plaintive - its sort of old timey but it has a very urban/hip flair. ,Absolutely frakin love your lite airey vocals. Great stuff! Can you eleaborate a little on how you did this? (play everything from scratch? wow...its fabulous.

Thank you, Karmatoburn :) &mdash 03/20/07 - 12:32:40 PM
I did it all on my keyboard. There is a preset style called "Beguine," that i couldn't resist, and that's the only thing that's not played from scratch, i guess. I used the preset for the main rhythm and sort of blocked out the song with that first. Then i used different instrument sounds from the keyboard and played the "saxophone," "guitar," and "organ," and a bit more "bass." So, although the instruments are not real, they were played on the keyboard with my very own hands, hehe. I added a bit of distortion to the guitar in GB1 and mucho reverb on the vocals (of course). :D

Thanks so much for the compliments, i'm really glad you appreciated it.

(I love your nym, btw.)

wow &mdash 04/12/07 - 11:00:12 AM
that is really beautiful. i think it all sounds perfect; even the vocals with the bad mic (i'm just trying to get better sounding vocals with GB myself). this is truly haunting and beautiful. now i must download it. thanks for posting this.

artistic and Excellent &mdash 04/13/07 - 10:16:02 AM
your voice is haunting even if you're not singing about ghosts... I love the expressive artfullness in your whole presentation... I'd almost always advise someone to bring the voice up... even more so when your voice is so nice... but in this case it works so well "Dancing in and out of the shadows" just audible enough to haunt... If I didn't know, I'd have thought this was a new Kate Bush song...

wonderful stuff

What a find! &mdash 05/09/07 - 10:57:38 AM
First time I clicked on a banner and actually like the music! Wonderfully blended, bittersweet but highly original with charmingly twisted lyrics. Goldfrapp came to mind - the only voice I've heard which sounds similar to yours. Hope you keep posting here!

I also arrived here via the Banner...... &mdash 05/30/07 - 01:38:24 PM
I have to admit that I missed your first couple of postings and now have made up for that oversight by listening to all three of your songs in one sitting. They're great!!

I think that the backings are all first rate and the voice is magical. Kate comes to mind, as others have said, and for me that's icing on the cake.

Can't wait for more of your songs to be uploaded.

Take care.

Paul.

1) your banner is excellent. I saw it and clicked on it immediately!!! BRAVO!!!

2) your voice is so beautiful and unique. As a singer myself, I can tell that you sing from the heart. Your voice carries much emotion.
