Fan List
Keywords:
Laid (1)back (23)Jamaica (3)holiday (76)relaxing (49)rum (2)and (92)coke (2)deck (2)chairs (1)
Description:
This is basically an improvisation around the F, G & C major chords.

The sounds had to be 'laid back' as the attack characteristics of the sounds didn't allow for fast note sequences, so I thought that a Carribean/Latin feel and title would fit as good as anything else.

This is a Mark I version.

Hardware:
Macs and Roland.

Software:

I like the sound &mdash 03/08/07 - 05:24:18 PM
and the way you played it, but I don't get the whole Latin/Jamaican feel that you say it has. For me it is more of a guardian angel watching over you sound.

Hey Stoooooooooooooooeey... &mdash 03/09/07 - 01:20:32 AM
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment.

I know what you mean about the Latin/Carribean feel. I couldn't make my mind up where the tune sat with respect to genre.

My thoughts were 'feel good', 'relaxation', 'holiday' and so I put these together and came up with my tune description.

The beauty about intellect and music is that the experience of 'music' is subjective, personal, and yes, some musical experiences are 'group' or all in the same frame of mind and agreement, such as pop, rave, trance or other music group listen-ins, but if we as composers set the scene, with lyrics, the music itself or a good description, we can point a listener in the general direction of where our original inspiration came from (hopefully).

I'd originally though Oort Cloud and space dreadlocks but the reggae feel wasn't quite there. Concerts in deep space with people wandering into a loading area aboard a people transport ship, with those onboard coming out of deep hybernation, near their destination, and a few of the guys getting together for an impromptu wake up piece of music. Sort of a 'Hey man, we're all in this together. Lets make the most of it'.

Music can lift any gloom. You (as the 'listener') have to be able to step out of or forget your little world, open up, and let the music take you away. They can't lock you up for it, or at least not at the moment......

Take care.

Paul.

I agree with Stooey &mdash 03/09/07 - 02:58:03 AM
Paul, I have to agree with Stooey on the theme. I was reminded of erasure with soft flowing lyrics by Andy Belle or something like that. It has a nice bed for vocals.

The arpeggio sequence was great. Is that a keyboard generated sequence or computer? Would love to get my hands on it if possible, or possibly add to this song thru collaboration. Please let me know.

Thanks for sharing!

I had the same idea last night.... &mdash 03/09/07 - 06:29:37 AM
I had the very same idea, about vocals fitting nicely with this, but I can't sing, didn't have any lyrics in mind and so the thought passed between my ears and then out.

I did the improvisation using one of the Ambient presets on the Albino 3 soft synth. I instantly liked the sounds and when I could play both the lead and accompaniment without having to multi track I went for a quick take/mix.

I'll certainly send you the details and/or if you want to do any sort of version with the original or a collaboration on something/anything, just let me know. I have the time to do this sort of thing now. I have access to 5 Gb or storage, online, with public access, so getting data to you would not have to be via email.

I agree about the Erasure and Andy Belle. I grew up with this type of music ringing in my head.

Take care.

Paul.

Just beautiful &mdash 03/14/07 - 11:23:56 PM
- that sequence and those sounds are right up my street.I'd probably have taken the whole theme into a huge epic but I like the fact you kept it short. This would be a great soundtrack to part of a film - I watched 'Cal' recently and for some reason it reminded me of that - hold on that was dire straights wan't it? Quite moving indeed and I love it when new themes are found for that chord progression. Also have you ever heard 'god moving over the face of the waters' by moby? This doesn't remind me of it but it might be a piece you would enjoy.Cheers,RG

Thanks for your comments.... &mdash 03/17/07 - 03:06:48 PM
As always Richard, your comments are appreciated.

As soon as I heard the preset sound I had ideas for tunes. I feel, as Legato said, that there are lyrics in the piece, crying to get out. My thoughts though are that the playing of the music needs to become 'proper'. I am certainly not happy with the way I played the piece. No quantisation, no technical expertise with the tickling of the plastic-cum-ivories so this will probably be re-recorded, say in nine or so years, when I retire early, to practise my scales a little more.

I've probably 9 CD's of Moby but the track you mention doesn't come to mind. I WILL though be checking it out.

Take care.

Paul.
