Description:
This is a collaboration between Vic Holman - music, Willnlf - lyrics, and Bud - vocals. A few weeks back Vic sent me an mp3 to sing on. Around the same time my brother Will returned from India where he participated in a polio innoculation program, and sent me these lyrics. I'm grateful for the opportunity to put this together and hope I've done them both justice.
Lyrics:
The Streets of Delhithe streets are dry and dusty
trash is everywhere
the buildings are all broken
pollution fills the air
beside a new construction site
a village has arisen
it’s made of tin and plastic
a horrifying vision
the laborers have moved in
from the countryside
they can’t commute to work each day
no one has a ride
so they stay until the job is done
and then they move away
the homeless people move in
no one has to pay
last night as we ate dinner
in our luxury hotel
right around the corner
people lived in hell
someone made the comment
they’re poor but they’re content
they understand wants and needs
at least they don’t pay rent
but I see the little children
their dirty clothes and feet
I see the hunger in their eyes
their poverty complete
I can’t find the emotion
can’t find the proper words
to capture how I feel inside
the sadness and the hurt
so I walk the slums of Delhi
do the job I came to do
to kill a beast named polio
help save a life or two
then I’ll fly home to America
show the pictures tell the story
but you’ll have to see it for yourself
walk the ruined streets of Delhi
the holy streets of Delhi
the hungry streets of Delhi
see the streets of Delhi
be the streets of Delhi
be the streets of Delhi

captures Delhi pretty spot on. The tent cities are a shocking reality of that country, and they sure put our privileged life into perspective.
Thanks for posting.

(that was fun)
I'm still around until August, but I'm relinquishing my instruments to my younger cousin for the length of my stay in India -- at least the instruments that aren't stored in my laptop.
I'm going to be about eight hours north-east of Delhi, in a couple of towns named Haridwar and Hrishikesh. From there I'm not sure where I'll end up, though I'd like to stay in an ashram in one of those two places.

Vic, welcome to the team and thanks for the music, and thank you, Bud, for the vision to put it all together. Guitars and interpretation of lyrics right on. Everything matches the images still fresh in my mind.

MacJams is such a great way of connecting. Who doesn't remember playing and playing alone with no feedback or collaborators. What a nice blend of technologies - digital music and the net. Love streams in bits.

REALLY enjoyed this.Especially like this part of the lyrics:-
I can%u2019t find the emotion
can%u2019t find the proper words
to capture how I feel inside
the sadness and the hurt
- this summed up how I've felt all this week and last.I got my head smacked in by some skinheads recently for not being a 'local'.Great combination of talents, nice choice of subject matter - love it when people write observations on their travels infact I like hearing about peoples travels period.Cool poignant singing and excellent usage of an arsenal (of guitars)
bud
I was really happy to discover your music lately. Thanks for the kind words. Sorry about the skinhead run in. Will writes a godd travelog - check out "The Road".

I like how you captured the disparity between the haves and the have-nots. The incredible proximity they exist in in india is amazing and unsettling. Sad and curious. Well done, I love a story song. Vic, great guitar work. Love the bridge.
bud
it's all Will's work. Indeed Vic contributed a great piece of music for me to work with. It just happened that I was able to bring the two together. I thought there was a certain weight and sadness to the bridge that lent itself to Will's writing. Thanks for stopping by.

Vic the Slick(in this case slick means great) and my new bud Bud! Great collaboration. Super music as usual Vic and great lyrics and vocal from you and your brother Bud! Nice but sad!
bud
Vic contributed a great piece of music to this project.
...how the lyrics fit this music so well. It's as though Vic wrote this with exactly these words in mind. Kudos on a job well done men!
Bravo!
bud
Thanks for stopping by Mike - Vic passed along the music and the fit was nice - I agree. When I work with Will I always start with music without a lyric set in mind and then I go into the folder and see what fits. It's cool how often the results work better than something I would have planned.

Only just found this. I spent four months in Bangalore last year and this is pretty familiar. The story is very true, ironic and sad. There are some great Vic musical moments in this and a cool vocal performance.
Glad I found it!
