Description:
So, this is my very first composition composed entirely in Logic Express, part of the PHX Sessions 2007 in collaboration with Bryn (bibanova).

The song was composed using a 2 Ghz Macbook (including the pinhole microphone) in a period of about 2 hours.
It's a work-in-progress and will probably be expanded at some point.

Thanks goes to Bryn for helping me learn this program!
Thank you!!! :D

Welcome.. &mdash 03/12/07 - 06:08:52 PM
to the mad, bad world of LE7...where elation and despair walk hand in hand :). Seriously this sounds very lovely, a fab first Logic production. It sounds like the Arizona sessions have been very fruitful, I have certainly enjoyed listening to them
Cheers
Steve

The PHX Arizona Sessions... &mdash 03/13/07 - 07:56:41 PM
Have been extremely fruitful!

To be able to sit down and be guided in how to use LOGIC Express was very, very helpful! (thank you, Bryn!)
Also, the opportunity to collaborate in person was a great way to come up with spontaneous ideas and discussions on how to develop and expand a composition.

I'm glad you've enjoyed these compositions, Steve. Thanks for your comments :)

Pinhole!? &mdash 03/12/07 - 07:37:46 PM
That sounds pretty darn good fro a pinhole microphone.... wow...
I'd like to see what this turns into...

Thanks for your comments, Spike!
Glad you enjoyed this one--I'm looking forward to seeing what it 'becomes' as well.

It will take some time... &mdash 03/12/07 - 10:26:43 PM
Logic Express is great when you get the hang of it. From the hyper draw, to scoring and automated control over every parameter has all the makings for a killer app.

For the test I always like classical because the true challenge is making the instruments sound acoustically real if that is possible. Let me know if I can help.

Always be creating
Patrick

It is a bit daunting.... &mdash 03/13/07 - 08:11:26 PM
...considering I never really utilized all of GarageBand's functions and options!
But I've been really impressed with what I've seen and heard with Logic, and I'm looking forward to learning the real nuts-and-bolts of production and mixing.

I agree with you on classical/orchestral pieces being a great test of a program.
I was very pleased with how Logic was able to expand and shape the pinhole mic-recorded vocals, also.

Thanks for the offer to help, too! :)

I'll definitely keep making music!

Logic - the logical upgrade. &mdash 03/13/07 - 01:59:05 PM
Very nice, especially considering that mere 2 hours went into this and that you did this with a pinhole mic.

There was one thing that troubled me, though - the clavichord. It seemed that at the end of each phrase it got all weird. Kinda like you intended for some tremolo, but it got messed up in the quantizing.

But I, too, would like to hear this developed further - why wouldn't I?
:)

Logic rules! &mdash 03/15/07 - 09:31:19 PM
I have to say that despite being a fairly long time fan of yours Mysti, the production on this has moved you into a new phase for me. Logic has the wonderful ability to add a really pro sheen (as well as dynamics) to a piece, and this is the perfect example.
Pinhole mics must be getting good these days!
Great sound.

Congrats on your Logic. &mdash 03/17/07 - 04:36:47 PM
Personally I'm still terrified of going there. Obviously we can expect even more great things from you now that you've graduated! This is simple and lovely, and I'm also impressed that you got this kind of sound from a pinhole mic.

You have my respect... &mdash 03/17/07 - 08:33:01 PM
...for making the move... I'm still trying to get there...

Logic Express has so much cool stuff in it... But GarageBand-easy it isn't... It will be neat to see where you go with LE...

a definite difference &mdash 03/18/07 - 12:30:29 PM
This recording gives a hint of LE's capabilities; crystal-clear sound with a certain warm depth that GB does not have.

I've been shying away from "taking the LE plunge" -- I bought the program before intel and am now having a DEVIL of a time getting the update! I keep calling Apple to send it to me, but alas they have not complied.

So I have not begun to delve into it quite yet.

Best of luck working with the program. Great possibilities here!!

You have a beautiful voice... &mdash 03/20/07 - 05:10:42 PM
...and the orchestration here joins hands perfectly. Looking forward to more.

Logic... &mdash 03/25/07 - 07:11:20 PM
Misti,
I think I am so "square" because I haven't any idea what LE really is. What I do know is that I am always, ahem, "mystified" by how clever some composers are in dreaming up new sounds and new applications of old sound. I hope you will continue to develop this little piece. It strikes me as having a wealth of potential. (I'm about to dive into ProTools for recording and mixing. THAT should be a quantum leap for me. I think we're all in this together.)
Peace.
Paul

On the moors &mdash 04/07/07 - 12:13:25 PM
First off, let me say sorry for being gone so long. Life.
Go figure.
That said, this was haunting and beautiful. Then again, what isn't of yours that isn't spellbinding to listen to? ^_^

I could see this fitting into the background for a video game-- something like Castlevania or the like.
For a pinhole mic, you sure make it sound huge. I too haven't tooled around enough with Garageband-- all I've done is put a podcast together with some public domain music from here.

Speaking of which, I make a few YouTube videos now and then-- do you allow your songs to be used in such a manner? I'm doing a travelogue when I moved from NY to Cali, and this piece would be good behind a story I tell about some homeless fella that was getting the runaround on Christmas Eve. Proper credit given, of course.

Let me know, thanks.
