Description:
A song that's been on the back burner for some time. A familiar topic that speaks for itself
Lyrics:
Not in my name
Not in my name - never again
Not in my name - never again
Still a world full of pain, oppression and war
With so much to gain, how many times before …
The hawks who distort, are lying in their graves
And tattered and torn, their militarist aims
It was all about oil, not WMD
Just blood, oil and tears, black gold is the key
Not in my name - never again
Not in my name - never again
The Bush-Blair collusion, the lies and deceit
Of their masters of spin, who think on their feet
They hood-winked us all, and stifled debate
Rigged a UN green ligh, said the generals can’t wait
For a pre-emptive strike, of shock and of awe
Now diplomacy’s failed, lets kick ass once more
Not in my name - never again
Not in my name - never again
How many lost lives, will it take till we halt
This state-sponsored crime, that was never their fault
And what of our leaders, hope they lie awake each night
Charred bodies before them, as they turn out their ligh
Do they prey for forgiveness, for what they’ve unleashed
On a world full of pain, can they ever explain
Not in my name - never again
Not in my name - never again

Not in my name either! &mdash 03/14/07 - 11:18:40 PM
I applaude where you're coming from on this. Especially since dissension = terrorism according to some.
The Project for a New American Century is well on its way and whenever I try to talk to people about it they think i'm some sort of crazy idiot. Amazing how most can be hood-winked. The way current international law reads prohibited Bush from invading iraq so he makes up new words...pre-emptive self-defense... which is Bushspeak for "invade whoever i want because in this post 9/11 world everyone who stands in MY way of imposing a new world order and establishing The United States as an empirical force is a potential enemy and possible terrorist".
Anyway, sorry to get on my soapbox. About the song - I like the jazz waltz feel you got going on here. Tastey guitar licks abound. I like your relaxed vocal delivery on this too - which helps keep me calm as i listen which is necessary cuz every time i start thinking about all the things you bring up in this song my blood starts to boil. Drums seemed a bit over-compressed to me. I love the last verse. Normal people consider the human toll war brings but power-obsessed politicians are far from normal. Not in my name either bro!
BTW - In Bing Futch's (dreadmon) comment on my latest tune he suggested I upload it to Neil Young's Living With War site. I havn't checked it out yet but I'm forwarding his suggestion to you - this song belongs there for sure! Keep on rocking in the free world! (until those rights are stripped from us too!)
