Description
23 years ago I was invited to play live on top of a mountain in a remote region of california. This is the 6th piece from that evening, recorded entirely live to tape. No one has heard it since that day.

MystInspired
Inspired by Mystified's work with Biba-Nova, I went back to the archives. This music, now 23 years old, was heavily inspired by work that is inspiring their work now. Not to say that this compares in any way with what they are working on now, but some of the initial inspiration is derived from a common source. That source is the work of Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Robert Fripp and Phillip Glass, all major influences on my music at the time. This is the 6th piece played at that live mountaintop performance.

This is great
I feel like I am listening to a long lost cousin or prototype to our 'Light Fields' track. It's kind of eerie listening to it from that perspective.

Do you think you might develop this with newer synths/software.

I love the e-bow (I want to get one now!)

Long lost cousin's indeed
I was very inspired listening to all the tracks you are working on. reminded me so much of my strongest musical influences. I have never played any of this for anyone...and now 23 years later, here it is. Will I resurrect it with new synths? man, if I could, I would, but all of this equipment was sold at a time of total financial desparation in my life, all that remains are these recordings.

pink floyd'ish
I can hear David Gilmour playing his strat upon this soundscape of mystic.

What a magificent adventure it must have been to be there and experiencing this live on that mountain top.

Thank you for sharing this beauty with us Blaine.

penta octosexual frustration
This has a very tranquil feel, almost like watching what little flickering sunlight can penetrate 100 feet down at the bottom of a kelp forest... or the last rays of light slowly fading from a valley floor at dusk. I know you chose 8-6 for some reason, but I think I hear a pentatonic scale, and this therefore sounds vaguely oriental as well, which adds some charm for me. I really like this piece, it is gently flowing, and the recording is in remarkably good shape. Very happy you found it and chose to share it with us, thank you! Downloaded to my Blaine iPod folder!

Blaine
Well, a remote mountain top would be totally perfect for this! Very cool atmospheric sounds. I like it.

Hooray!!
Blaine,

I'm SO glad you posted these tracks here....beautiful!!
How very cool it must have been to play this upon a remote mountain top...

I'm honored that you would feel inspired to share these pieces after so many years--and yes! they do sound like 'long lost' cousins of the 'frequencies' piece--which was also inspired by a mountain scene.

Very cool, indeed...

Thank you!! :)

Music of mechanics
Thanks all...I all but filed this music away forever. Ironic, that at the time I made it, I could find very few people who had any interest in it. Maybe some things just take 20 years to mature.

From time to time...
I open up a drawer in the studio area and find my old EBow... Still in its original box... An item of kit custom made to get you thinking, "Hey, that was a cool thing... I should do something with that..."

Well. I never did ANYTHING with it as cool as this. Almost single-devicedly gets something Frippertronic going... Excellent slow space, slow enough that it blurs the line between melody and harmony... Trips up our minds that want to anticipate every note and move and "know where it's going"... This confounds all that... We have to slow right down to the present moment if we're going to arrive in the space where this music is...

Very beautiful. Glad you dug it out and posted it, blaine. And it's good to hear something from you again. I seem to have a whole page of 'btransue' stuff in Mail here... I see my night is pretty well mapped out...

Counfounded music for sure
I like that, having to slow right down to the present thing. For me the line between sound and music is very blurred indeed. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a huge problem making a "song". I was always uneasy about posting this stuff, because there are so many great songsters on MJ. But, for me, these are my songs. Glad you enjoyed it, there are many more miles where this came from, and over teh years since.

Thanks for not throwing me out!
