Nothing Will Die
by Alfred Lord Tennyson:

When will the stream be aweary of flowing
Under my eye?
When will the wind be aweary of blowing
Over the sky?
When will the clouds be aweary of fleeting?
When will the heart be aweary of beating?
And nature die?
Never, oh never, nothing will die;
The stream flows,
The wind blows,
The cloud fleets,
The heart beats,
Nothing will die.

Nothing will die;
All things will change
Thro’ eternity.
’Tis the world’s winter;
Autumn and summer
Are gone long ago;
Earth is dry to the centre,
But spring, a new comer,
A spring rich and strange,
Shall make the winds blow
Round and round,
Thro’ and thro’,
Here and there,
Till the air
And the ground
Shall be fill’d with life anew.

The world was never made;
It will change, but it will not fade.
So let the wind range;
For even and morn
Ever will be
Thro’ eternity.
Nothing was born;
Nothing will die;
All things will change.

first of all i'm impressed.. &mdash 03/22/07 - 09:16:55 PM
with using soundtrack. that seemed to go away. cool and clear tracks in this piece. great sound of guitar and the drums!

Cool &mdash 03/23/07 - 07:00:25 AM
Production note - I've sometimes used Soundtrack to get rid of ambient audio noise. It's kinda funny since Apple develops both Logic and Soundtrack (exc. it's different development teams) that the denoiser in Logic isn't as user friendly.
But after using SoundTrack, I'll use those tracks and finish the production in Logic.

Question &mdash 03/23/07 - 07:01:37 AM
Since your using Soundtrack, does that mean video for this will be coming soon?

Videos &mdash 03/25/07 - 04:38:14 PM
Logic is no doubt a much better way to produce... but Soundtrack seems to work fine for me, so I always go back to it. I haven't actually used it to create a video soundtrack for a few years... however I do plan on making music videos for some of my songs, just not right away.

I could see a video for this consisting of various kinds of nature shots, perhaps with a lot of time lapse blooming and dying plants. Hmmm... time to start assembling my production crew! Thanks for listening, Bill, I'm glad you thought this was cool.

Constistantly great! &mdash 03/23/07 - 08:18:46 AM
You and Vac have created a very distintive sound. It's cool how I could know this was you only by hearing it. I'd like to get there with my style as well. I love the cool bass and underlying rhythm. Very cool! Great Stuff!

I love your discipline in the arena of the cosmos, this flavor of 'straight-up' modern rock from you and VAC is just superB

The trippy dream is alive in this, I hear what it does to my visuals...
Fantastic soundtrack to an outerspace new earth, love the production and the magnificent notes, it shines, rolls and bends

can really play that guitar... cool tune... very clean and refreshing. I think some vocals would even work well with this composition.

Another Great Match Up &mdash 03/24/07 - 07:50:32 AM
Very crisp production. Vac's playing is a little country with some outside playing thrown in to make it even more interesting.

That's a pretty Zen moment... &mdash 03/24/07 - 11:49:58 AM
...from Lord Tennyson... I never read that poem before...

The thing about your productions, David, is that they are always INTERESTING... Sure, you can bop along with them in the background, but they also reward direct attention...

They are also very tight without ever being rigid... Always a sweetness and a musicality blended into the clean mix...

Really like the guitar... again.... Actually, like the way the guitar and bass interlock here...

I'm having an electronic signature made up for commenting on your tunes that says, "Oh, and the drums are killer"...

Ed

All your productions have this quality, and yes, Ed is right : drumming is a killer. Great playing, cool music. What about the lyrics ? Are they going to be sung ?

Thanks, man, I appreciate that. That Tennyson poem is just what inspired the title of the song... Steve's playing on this song really reminded me of the sentiment in that poem, so I stole the title. I would be impressed if someone could recite or sing the poem to match the song. Anyone is welcome to try :-) Thanks for listening!

It's already been said - &mdash 03/24/07 - 07:33:35 PM
but the production here is pretty danmn impressive - as it should be cause the playing is incredible. Great work you guys - I'm humbled. There's this - and then there's everything else.

I love following Ed in the comments ...... &mdash 03/24/07 - 11:36:41 PM
...... because he usually covers just about everything I want to say. My fav vac/pv song so far - tight as should be allowed, with amazing guitars and bass from Vac. Oh, and the drums are OK I guess ; )

I think the vocals need to come up David, I could barely hear the singer : )

A stunner!

Cheers,
Neil

3D ? How ? &mdash 03/25/07 - 02:04:20 PM
This is nice, but I'm very puzzled by one thing. It seemed that these instruments all had very clear and distinct "places" in a large, empty 3D space. Is this possible? I was only listening with my Thinkpad...not even with earphones. I really like the lyrics that inspired this too. Keep up the great work! (I'd say that to Tennyson too, but it might be too late. Or, not.)

Dear puzzled &mdash 03/25/07 - 04:57:01 PM
Isn't that a cool poem?

Thanks, I do try to disentangle the individual instruments, by separating them spatially. I can control the x-axis with simple panning, and the z-axis, to some extent, by varying the volumes. Also, I tried to carefully use reverb filters to make the sound space seem big. The y-axis is trickier, but I'm told that (generally) the higher the pitch the higher the perceived elevation of the sound. So, to answer your question, actually, I do think it's possible! Not that I think about it in those terms, but I'm glad if the audio effect is a 3D auditory image.

signature sound &mdash 03/26/07 - 04:25:57 PM
I'm able to name guitarists if you play me songs from some well known ones, and ask me who plays. But there ain't many I'm able to name just by listening to the drums and production qualities. Except maybe you David:)
You have a unique sound in the drum productions you make. Very tight and punchy, but also unique in how they're performed... And in a good way, of course:)

Once again, a cool track from you!

Clarity &mdash 03/27/07 - 12:14:27 PM
Is foremost here, everything is clean and spacious... something I love hearing in recordings. It is big, strong, but not muddy. You attention to the mix is evident, bravo! And of course, the very cool guitar and bass work is great fun to listen to (bass kept reminding me of "Train kept a rollin" by Aerosmith, for some reason.) Drumming is typically impeccable PV work, perfectly matched. Sorry, nothing to critique, except the need for a lead melody :-)

Drakonis

Nice groove on all accounts: bass, drums and guitar... Any vocals in mind for this piece? It's very instrumental arranged, but it could carry some nice vocals as well... Anyhow, I like this a lot! /Mikki

Excellent! &mdash 03/30/07 - 11:33:30 AM
Steve's guitar sounds startingly like Phil Keaggy of Glass harp. Wonderful lead riffs. Such texture! I love the way the guitar wafts and soars over Dave's understated percussion track. This is top-flight work gentlemen. Bravo and kudos!

Be well!

Very cool piece. I read the comment about the 3D spatial mixing and I agree that seemed to be my impression. I am even more impressed as this apparently was your intention ..... excellent. Musically this was a little Zappaesque ( I know a lot of people do not like artist comparisons ... but I dont care... and this is intended as a compliment) and the parts were professionally performed. I really enjoy instrumental music that can conveys imagry ... and this to my ears succeeded perfectly. The guitar player is very expressive and unique sounding. Drums and bass were also excellent. Very impressive!

I don't really have much to say other than I liked it. Great sounds. Dave always does a great job mixing drums and this is no exception. The rhythm guitar shines in this - very crisp, though I wish there was a bit more variation.

This is a solid performance and production effort. I didn't heart any vocals, I guess I missed something somewhere.

Recording and sounds were very cool.

AWESOME TRACK DAVE &mdash 05/06/07 - 07:04:02 PM
This is a great track all around! Dug the backwards echo on the track and the guitar was stellar. Reminded me of the Hellacasters in the crisp pinchy notes. Drums sound perfect. Nice job guys!

Lyrical in its own right but plaintive singing might sling this even higher skyward.

Fantastic job.

I HAD to! &mdash 01/04/08 - 11:37:14 AM
I just had to give this another spin. It's been awhile. Still sounds fresh. Still sounds fantastic. Still conjours up sonic images of an early 70's Glass Harp jam.

Thanks for the reminder. Rock on!
