since you were kind enough to give me an ear, i had to stop by.
glad i did.
this creates a bit a of a rocking jazz feel. gets my head bobbin! the runs almost remind me of the doors, except this is not drug music. i thoroughly am enjoying this, though. thanks!

Glad you stopped buy. You are correct, the most powerful drug used was coffee, but my musical roots are apparently never far away :)

Ramsey Lewis &mdash 03/25/07 - 07:22:28 AM
As a kid my father used to take me to Chicago.
One time he took me to see Ramsey Lewis trio.
I was 11 years old, boy was I lucky....
This song reminds of that time
Great tune,,as always a great sond and melody

Doorsy &mdash 03/25/07 - 07:18:44 PM
Great blues - nice rhodesy sound.I'm quite a fan of long improvisations - specially when they take you on a musical journey. You cover alot of the octaves, which result in quite a few crescendos - I like that too (ever heard any Herbie Hancock?) thanks - enjoyable.Good luck with the competition,go robot go!

I have definitely heard Herbie Hancock, he's one of my favorite jazz players. Thanks for noticing all those crescendos. When you can force them using the volume controls its hard to convey how much fun it is to do it on your own. We walk a fine line between live and machine music here.

I'll let the team know that there are musicians all over the world rooting for them :)

Too cool for school &mdash 03/26/07 - 12:59:11 PM
Bill - I love the distorted piano sound here - kinda Doorsy/ Radiohead. Lovely playing - I really admire you're playing on this (I couldn't write anything if I had to play it live).

You get into a great groovy that just cascades in your head - great stuff.

Mr. Piano &mdash 03/31/07 - 06:14:03 PM
The left channel piano solo just carries my attention off. It's wonderful. The distortion is great and the tempo just keeps pulling me along.

Your mixing, composing, and playing is getting really tight and solid.

Don't stop it.

Rhodes Less Traveled &mdash 04/05/07 - 08:22:14 AM
Whatever you do. REMEMBER HOW YOU GOT THAT SOUND!!!

That slightly overdriven Rhodes thing is just GREAT!, and you're playing kept my attention, too, which says a lot for your melodic sense, given the simplicity and repetition of the background part. Really cool and dramatic when the bass dropped out, then you slowly brought everything back up, too. Nice touch. Think I'll go listen to more of your stuff!

Sounds like you really listened carefully, thanks. The "Affected" piano is saved and tweaked frequently, no worry there. The drums and bass didn't vary at all when I recorded it, so its nice that you noticed the little bits of production I allowed myself. I'm following the "use of drum loops" forum thread carefully :) Sounds like there are ways to really improve the drums post recording.

Cool groove &mdash 07/13/07 - 10:29:05 PM
At first I thought the drum track was fixed but it was cool the way you mixed it up. It just ended and it's a cool vibe throughout. It would have lost me without the changes in the drum tracks but that kept it popping. Great moves!

Thanks for the comment. Drums are always a struggle for me, its good to know that it is worth the trouble to do something besides letting the drum loop go.

Sweet robot &mdash 01/20/08 - 08:26:13 AM
Had to check out your 'old jam' and I have to say, I love it. Super nice work on the piano, a nice take on a bluesy scale-- plus it's just the right amount of distortion. Some might ask for a changeup or a break from the groove, not me however, I LOVE a good jam, and this is it. My greedy mind would really enjoy it if this built to the point wear some heavier drums kick in and maybe some guitar swells as the clavinova reaches its peak intensity and we rock out like that for 16 measures or so. I'd glady try and tweak that, but have no idea how to do a collab, have never done one before. Let me know if you'd be interested. Funny comment on how this isn't drug music. I'd say that's in the brain of the beholder. Rock on man

Deus Ex &mdash 01/20/08 - 06:31:59 PM
Glad you like the jam. There are a number of ways to do a collab. If we have the same version of GarageBand I could send you the garageband file and you could go to town, as the bass and piano are my midi recordings and the drums are apple loops. If that is a problem, we could swap parts of the song as mp3 files. If you want to proceed send me a note outlining your method of producing. Portions of this could easily be rerecorded to fit any plans you might have.
