Description:
A Collab with Linda Courtien, onesweetworld @macjams.
She posted this acapella piece(she called 'You Wont break Me'... http://www.macjams.com/song/27121) I fell in love with it. So I started adding to it and well ...she likes it. So here is the timothy devine-ized version. Linda is a true talent and let me create freely, and for that, I have lot of
gratitude and respect. Thank you, LInda.
She let me rename this version and I call it 'Hold on to your spirit'

Lyrics:
Hold on to your spirit child; hold on to your spirit child,They’ll make and break you…
Hold on to your spirit child; hold on to your spirit child, There trying to rape you
There is more depth inside of me, you’ll never see
I am blind to yours equally…
Hold on to your spirit child; hold on to your spirit child,
They’ll make and break you
Hold on to your spirit child; hold on to your spirit child
There trying to rape you
Your good inside,
deep down your fine,
still I run and hide.
recoil behind,
A wall you'll find,
a bit more satisfied.
reach back in time,
your child is blind,
nature of man kind
now there’s iron tears
there’s real deep fears
They wont break you
theres tons of years
to hell with fears
they can't escape you
Hold tight child inside
Hold tight child inside

This is cool stuff. I have to check out more of Linda's stuff. She has a great voice, with a lot of soul.
She is right on key and very clearly a great singer.
You did a great job putting music to her vocals
bravo
ps i like the lyrics a lot

Hi Bill,
I have to rework my vocal part, but i thought i'd put it up and see what kind of feedback we get. I know Lindas parts are fine but my vocal needs help. You always had an easier time of it than me.
I work and work and am never happy.
anyway this is my first collab that i ever posted so i'm kinda excited about it.
I have a few more working.
Thanks for checkin it out and commenting
love u my brother

I remember the acapella version of this one. Its very good.
You have brought a new dimension to it, and I think you did well. I like the added verses, and your voices go well together.
To my taste, I think some of the perc is a little to much at some places. I don't feel it support the great guitars, vox and sound bed you make. It kind of pulls in a different direction.
When you let the drums come in, and you start your new verses... very cool Timothy. Also tasteful how you have mixed Linda's vocals together with yours.
timothy devine
Thanks for stoping by. You opoinion is important to me. I concider you among the elite here at Macjams and immediately went to listen to the tune and you were right about the add percusion. I removed it and the tune is cleaner...now if i could just sing like Linda...I want to redo myvox and will post a new version ASAP
Thank you for your continued support.

Love you stuff.

collab. nice additional touches really liked the keyboard and vocal mix. real nice. i agree with Thoddi that the additional percussion isn't needed. just the basic drums works best. great tune otherwise.
isn't this the first time you've actually sung here? very good.
timothy devine
This is the first vocals from me in a long time. When i first joined MJs i posted some vocal stuff...
I took a bunch of the first posts down cause i thought i'd start out new at one point. After gaining some MJ savey i started to think too much about what to post and now i am hitting that wall again.
Anyway I'm here for the fun and I want to thank you for your comment. Your one of the best at what we do here so I totaly value u'r opinion.(u find those confonded keys yet)
I gave the tune another listen and agree with yoou and thoddi about the added drum stuff. I will probably re-do my vocal and at that time edit out the extraa percusions. I hsere what you mean now.
Thank you
Peace

Be well!

Tim - I've checked out Lindas work before, and loved it. This is a great version, with great progression but also wonderfully abstract in parts. Lindas voice is , of course, fantastic, but your voice is great - the harmonies you use sound spooky and fabulous - how did you process them (they sound kinda radiohead)?
A catchy and moving track - the sort of thing I wish i could write.
Instant fav.

Thanks for the comments. The vocals that i'm never happy with?
I Just did it over a period of time. each time the tune moved me in a different direction, i sang with it and then cut some of it up and used the vocal transformer if thats the right fx term. Maybe a minor third lower. Or a major third, which ever one worked i dont remember. some of the harmonies i actually sang.
Thank you for the very supportive remarks.
Coming from such a great song writerer your words mean a lot.
I dig your stuff.

.. I like what you have done with it ... but the whole mix was too LOW in my headphones ... HENCE a download and a RE-MIXDOWN on my part with a higher volume ! haha - still amazed how someone can make antire song out of a little acapella snippet .. .maybe I should try something like this and see who takes a stab at it ....
timothy devine
If u do want to try something like this let me in on it.

We really did do a good job on this huh? I think you have done a great job adding music to the acca. Honestly..that's something I could never do. Kudos to you. You've expanded a great idea to something much better!!
timothy devine
I feel like I could keep working on this but i put it to rest for now. Thank you for such a great, smart, and inspired work from your camp.
I will probably work on the "Half Mast" tune soon after i finish a few other things i got going. I alo have a few tunes u could sing when your done with all that school work.

I love the way this turned out...did you here what alannah has done with it?
Willywagga
Great pure voice, amazing background sounds work really well with the voice, your voice could do with being brought a little up in the mix, nice percussive noises fizzes and pops that fill it out very nicely indeed. Excellent.
apocafunk
the addition of other vocal lines compliments Linda's (already beautiful melody) very nicely. great job on the sound bed as well. very loose, free flowing arrangement. the minimal work on the piano is choice; all together, the right notes in the right spots. I'm diggin it a lot. Thanks to both of you.
timothy devine
I love it when somebody hits an old tune
thanks for checking it out
Linda is prime, isn't she?
fine quality, in tune, easy to listen to, clear, and precise vocal.
If you have time check out the many versions of 'rain rain' she started
peace out
