Wild &mdash 03/29/07 - 09:11:36 AM
This is wild stuff! And it took me on a trip that I certainly wasn't anticipating. First off, your sound textures are incredible - it's the stuff of movie-making, really magical sounding and quite disturbing/harrowing. So I love when the piece takes on another dimension and the organ/harpsichord music comes in with the male voice talking and the female voice singing - the tapestry begins to change and reveal itself to be about something other than what it first seemed. I loved this transformation and it really kicked the visuals into high speed. I found myself lost in the track doing a lot of trying to feel what the story was all about. I wouldn't try to play this while driving down the road, might set me into a daydream, but a greatly realized piece, seamless, well-produced and inspiring.

I am glad you picked up on the 'visual' aspects of this.

I appreciate your comments.

creeeepy but cool. That organ sound and the ever present 'wind throught the metallic tummels" is superbly hypnotic. I imagine the visuals with this and they're scary :-) well done

sbc & mnc? acronyms for?

Mmmmmmmm...................... &mdash 03/29/07 - 01:54:47 PM
This mix is, IMO, what can be achieved with creativity of a brave kind mixed with excellent sound and production skills to boot.

Superb.

I can't bring myself to make it a favourite because I'm listening too close at the moment to the technicalities of the piece. (It just scares me, in a morphine-induced stupor sort of way, to just listen to the piece. I've been to this land. The place where this takes place. What brought me out of it were the English voices in the distance and an untuned piano, playing chop sticks, whilst I slower adjusted to the accepted reality that passes for everyday life).

I await more, with eager anticipation.

Take care.

Paul.

Should read 'What brought me out of it were the English voices in the distance and an untuned piano, playing chop sticks, whilst I slowly adjusted to the accepted reality that passes for everyday life)'.

What a strange hallucinatory feel this has, it kind of envelopes you as it goes along...maybe David Lynch should use this for an upcoming project?? Good stuff Bryn (and Mysti of course)

Electronic Voice Phenomenon &mdash 03/30/07 - 01:56:13 AM
This was such a surprise...

And how cool to hear you experimenting with sounds this way, B.
I love the swirls and textures and motion of sound on this.

While others may find this composition 'scary' I find it fascinating and intriguing.

I've always wanted to explore the voice and see what could be done in mixing and recording and working with it 'outside the box.'
This is one very cool perspective!!

Who Needs Drugs? &mdash 03/30/07 - 07:09:18 PM
This is seriously cool and incredibly hypnotic. It really did feel as though my vision was narrowing and, after a minute, I realized that I had closed my eyes and was seeing images of grass and trees and...robots(?) This would make an terrific dystopian film soundtrack and, while it is a bit scary, it's also beautiful.

Very nice, guys.

Nice piece - I'm always intrigued &mdash 04/03/07 - 03:13:33 PM
by the natural pacing of work like this - how it seems to breathe in deep cycles of release - within it's own sense of time - though tempered by emotional and attentional conditions. In other words - this flows and ebbs in a way that works for me and the sonic textures and choices you've made are really good. Glad I stopped by.

Really cool. Most of the time it was all beautiful images. But I was also reminded of that crazy underground world in "A Boy And His Dog"! Brr, creepy. Mysti's voice sounds excellent with that transformation.

More please &mdash 04/07/07 - 09:29:28 PM
I love this. There is such power in things undefined. The nothingness is filled by all manner of marvels and monsters - depending on the mind.

This composition started to take me somewhere I wasn't ready to go. Not tonight anyway.

The depths are not empty are they?

bryn. this is really special. those vocals are so friggin spooky and beautiful. it's like an astronaut floating by themselves through space, with no hope of returning home. he's thinking out loud about what he loves and misses; but at the same time he's content. being so far away from all of these people and things makes them perfect. only memories, but still perfect.

I hang my head in the experimental music room and turn back to my acoustic guitar..............

Cheers
