Lyrics:
Just Being With You
Music & Lyrics by Jack Miller 2007
Where can I go? G
What can I do? Em
I’m so in love G
Just being with you. Em
I can’t imagine it being much better. C - G
Don’t want to change unless I can be with you. C – G - D
What can you do? G
Where can you flee? Em
My lucky day G
You’re stuck on me. Em
Somebody wake me and tell me this isn’t a dream. C - G
Cause I look back on all these years and it’s hard to believe. C -G
But then I look into your eyes and then I can tell, C - G
What we’ve got is real. Em
Some would say the real deal. Am
But all I saying is I want nobody but you. C - D
… So tell me
Where can I go?
What can I do?
I’m so in love
Just being with you.
I can’t imagine it being much better.
Don’t want to change unless I can be with you.
[Instrumental Break]
When you’re away
I talk to the walls.
If they could speak
They’d tell you all.
I can’t imagine it being much better.
Don’t want to change unless I can be with you.
Where can I go?
What can I do?
I’m so in love
Just being with you.
Somebody wake me and tell me this isn’t a dream.
Cause I look back on all these years and it’s hard to believe.
But then I look into your eyes and then I can see,
What we’ve got is real.
Some would say the real deal.
But all I saying is I want nobody but you.
… So tell me
Where can I go?
What can I do?
I’m so in love
Just being with you….

NICE GROOVE &mdash 04/01/07 - 12:33:51 PM
Really like the unexpected back placement of the Vocal. Totally visible but laid back - not pushy at all. Sets the Attitude of the Narration; the inevitability of it all.
Slightly Brit, slightly San Francisco influence mix to my ear. Unusual and catchy.

Silly's the Best &mdash 04/01/07 - 12:50:10 PM
It's funny, just reading through the lyrics I had an idea of what the song 'should' sound like and this is exactly right. I love how relaxed you are when you sing this, reflecting the "it's a given," aspect of the constancy of of your love (you are scoring major points with the Mrs, but I remember that you've already racked up a few. ;-) )
I'm going to download this for my dad, I think he'll really like this (as do I). [ Reply to This ]

When I can up with the melody and lyrics, the song just fell naturally into this soundbed. Came together quite quickly. Thanks leb for sharing your thoughts on that. Hope your Dad likes this. And I'm glad that you did.
Thanks.

I was just watching the turtles on youtube cos of that music buiness thread up there and then Zoi sent me a message to tell me to come and listen to your song. For some reason I pictured it being played on a black and white TV in the 60's (er unless they had colour then - i dunno) and I was thinking it would be a great song for a band to play specially reading the chords as the song went along.Nice - sincere - I love it when people are in love.Great sig too by the way [ Reply to This ]
so happy together... &mdash 04/01/07 - 07:24:38 PM
I haven't thought of the Turtles for a long time. I liked that song a lot when it came out back in the sixties. I remember at our lunch hour one day at school (eighth or nineth grade) a student "rock" band from our grade played that song for everyone at lunch... ah the memories. I am musically (pop & rock-wise) a creature of the sixties and seventies, with a decent dose of the fifties thrown in. So no surprise this song evokes some of that era. Glad you liked this love song. And thanks for leaving your thoughts.
Never can have too many love songs...

hopefully you'll be able to remove the Silly Love Song from you mind at some point :)... this one or Macca's?... heheh. Like you, I am a product of what I grew up (and still enjoy) listening to. Long live the music of the Liverpool Lads. It's been a while since I attempted any organ keyboard in a song. Nice to hear you thought this worked. Thanks, mate.

Not so silly Jack &mdash 04/01/07 - 08:45:27 PM
This did indeed evoke memories of that same era in me. And, love songs like this were not silly back then; they were serious affairs. If you didn't mean what you sang, out came the rolling pin. :-)
Great job Jack, I loved it.

Different then... &mdash 04/02/07 - 11:05:03 AM
Rick, I think you are right. There were more love songs years ago... forties big band numbers, the fifties and sixties were laced with love songs that were the background music for dating and parties. I still think most people like them. Just not enough goods ones out there?
Thanks for listening and adding to the love song conversation.

The Traveling Jackburys score again! &mdash 04/02/07 - 06:17:06 AM
Jack, this is so retro it's forward!
Love that photo... I've got a few Seventies pictures that end up with that distinctive tint...
This is a sweet and heartfelt lyric... I love your vocal on it...'When you're away/I talk to the walls' is a great line. I sure relate to it...
No one else gets this kind of mileage out of a G3 and GB1...
My only nitpick is that I'm hearing some distortion sneaking in there from time to time. My only suggestion, which is purely for fun, is to work up a version that's the Abbey Road version, with perceptual vortex on drums and jiguma on bass and Vic trading off on Sixties guitars with you... I'd just love to hear that...
Really good.

Wilburys... &mdash 04/02/07 - 11:24:11 AM
Hey Ed, I like the TW's a lot. They had a sound and a sense of enjoyment in their music that strikes a chord in me. I especially like their Vol. I and III CDs, but didn't care too much for Vol. II... ;) heheh.
I think the photo paper back then was cheap. All my old pics from that time are taking on that tinge of...?
Retro.... that got me laughing (Barb too was chuckling at that one)>
I have wanted to do a song where I sing in a higher voice. I can do it. But I can't project very well. I recorded two separate vox tracks, cranked them up a bit with the Overdrive effect, and let them run simultaneously. I was surprised at how it sounded.
I have told my wife over the years, that when she is away, I have no one to talk to except the walls. I stole that from the movie Shirley Valentine... a great, funny, and heartwarming story.
Sometime later this year... money almost saved... a new iMac... heheh!
You amaze me (once again). I almost emailed Vic Sunday morning to see if he would do the guitar solo work on this. He really has that Beatle (esp. Harrision) guitar sound down to a science. I didn't think mine was especially that great.. but it seemed to work well enough after I added the organ parts. And I was anxious to get this up... I like the melody and I wanted to see if it clicked with others. I like your idea of bringing in Neil, Vic, and David... guys? ... what do you think?....
Always good to get your take on things. Thanks.

Yeah &mdash 04/02/07 - 06:35:39 AM
Jack this is a well written song. I don't think anyone has mentioned that. Yes it isn't that complicated but great songs don't have to be. The important thing is that the chord changes just seem perfect for the lyrics and the mood of the song. It is a delight to hear you singing so well also. I also admire the fact that you can look on the past with such cheery reflection. Would that we could return to those innocent times ehhh? And if that is really a picture of you and an old girlfriend then I am envious. You were a handsome lad and she is hot! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Bronco... &mdash 04/02/07 - 12:22:04 PM
for the comments on the song writing... I really appreciate that. The lyrics in one section were more complicated and crowded. After paring them down, the song came together. Simple and less is often better and more.
... to paraphrase an old puchline, "that ain't no girlfriend, that's my wife!"
Heheh... and she's still hot. : )
Hopefully this song brought up some good memories for you... take care.

I've always loved the way Paul could sing a ballad/lovesong pop tune. I remember in 6th grade when the Beatles came out with She Loves You, I would sing that song imagining (haha) I sounded like him. So his vocals are definitely an inspiration for mine in this tune. Thanks Roxy... and no, not too silly.

I thought these drums worked ok... although I agree about the overused fill. That's what I get with free loops... not a lot of fills, in fact only one with this particular loop. Lots of different influences, blended, coming out as pure Dadaesque. Pure ... and fresh ... right from the start!
I thought maybe the talking to the walls dated back to Farin Young's 1961 classic, "Hello Walls" (written by Willie Nelson) ... but I may have just dated myself with that reference.
I do recognize the big hair period in the 70s photo : >
