THE BIG ROOM &mdash 04/01/07 - 07:45:19 PM
The size of the Soundstage is startling, delivering very precise voicings for each part.
The open is forcefully engaging and Superb (not less than high production Beatles work). There seems to be a tad of energy drop as the piece progresses into the main narrative, but this may be temporary, prior to choice of the full roster of accompany instrumentation.
While the Vocal is perfectly placed in the Mix, the EQ seems a touch hot at the higher range (4.8K - 6.2K range?) adding some sibilance shapness.

Guitar and Kit are OUTTA HERE grabbers!
Eagerly looking forward to the continuation and follow on.

Totally PRO Level Capture and Mix.

How long do we have to wait?

I got here about a year ago, and "tern was my very 1st fav" your song productions skills and your song sense are only matched by a very few here at MJ... I have been sitting here A-B ing both versions... I have a preference, the key board intro sets the song up better for my taste... but the whole thing is so delicious either way, that it really doesn't matter... even so, when the rich layered vocal comes in, I think it has a greater emotional impact without the guitar... sonicly the guitar is very much in the same area as that vocal so now there is more room for that vocal part when it comes in... it's more wide open... I think the way you enter the guitar solo now is more musical... and although the solo is the same, it seems more lyrical because of the rythem changes...

it sits in 2nd place on the ratings picks...when I'm done voting it should be 1st... and it's my song you'll be passing... I tip my hat...

Thanks &mdash 04/03/07 - 08:13:13 AM
I loved this feedback. Why? Because you'd pinpointed the reasons for this direction in the evolution.

Thanks for taking the time.

A real lesson! &mdash 04/02/07 - 04:19:43 PM
A real lesson in song writing, performance and production. Very few MJ posts reach this level of production especially. The harmony vocals in the beginning are just amazing - tight and perfectly balanced. No nits, no suggestions, except to hurry up with the complete song : )
Cheers,
Neil

Since you asked... &mdash 04/04/07 - 02:41:11 PM
whaddya mean, a WIP - what else is left to do? OK, I think the main vox sounds a little odd, almost slightly phased. The drum (snare sounds a little dry and harsh, bass drum kinda isn't really there) and bass aren't quite there, not sure if it's EQ or volume.

I think structurally, this sells itself a little short - the ending seems odd - definately could've brought the song back in once again. Oh, i see that's intentional, i've just read the description. Well, bring in a school choir at the end, that should work.

Love the backing vox, and it's a freaking great pop song ... so finish it already!!!

LOL

Steve

This is a great sound. Nice work. I will check out your other work for sure . I dont knoww how i stumbled in here but will mark you in as a fav! sso i can find my way back for sure.
Lyrics would be cool>
The over all sound is what is so great. the vocal and piano. The lyric and the layering of the oooo's and ahhhh's with whatever fx you got on them gives this a sweet memorable, downloadable, best of MJ's sound.
Thanks for putting this up to share.Great playing to boot. Voted All 10's
Peace

Completion &mdash 04/07/07 - 12:05:16 PM
Oh man, hurry up and finish this! I want to add it to my collection! The "backup singer" hold just before you really launch into the song might benefit tho from being maybe a second shorter-- it's not too long now, but it was just at that level where I found myself going "ok, let it go alread-- oh wait, there it is."

Otherwise, excellent job.

You... &mdash 04/10/07 - 09:58:29 AM
You could be right. I'll bechecking the length of the harmonies right at the final tweaking stage. I have a hunch they might end up half a bar shorter.

Cheers for listening.

Wow... &mdash 04/07/07 - 03:08:43 PM
I'm in Sandy Henderson's boat... stuff like this on MJ just makes 'real' radio more stale, frustrating and annoying.

This is really inspiring... so polished and well crafted it puts me in mind of what mainstream pop used to be when I was a yoot. Wow... Please finish! Please finish!

Yes... &mdash 04/07/07 - 03:54:27 PM
...I am a fan. Not just in the "I'm about to click on your little icon" sense, but in the "I love this music, I want to hear it again and again, I want to hear more music made by the same artist" sense. Very very nice. Just excellent in every way. Can't wait 'til it's finished.

Hmm &mdash 04/08/07 - 01:13:38 PM
I dunno, I think you might want to take some singing lessons and get a copy of Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies. Also, it's always good to practice playing on the beat.

:-p

Hee! I've heard the ending and it's rendered all the more fabulous by hearing the progress here. I do like the guitar being dropped out in this version, but it does feel a bit as though the song needs more than the piano/bass-line combo in that section, it feels a little too empty, tonal-spectrum wise.

But, man, you are unfairly gifted, as well as an extremely patient, hard worker.

late... &mdash 04/10/07 - 07:49:11 AM
...getting to this track.
you have a great voice, the mix and production very good. nice guitar tones
tasty pop/rock
I guess you wish to finish this, yes?
I think either you sing another verse ( I'm assuming the verse starts "is there anything" and button up the story line then sing the chorus again "take a look" part and fade out, or just sing the chorus.
I notice you're at 3:11 minutes so you don't have much time. If you are thinking of adding another part other than what you have aready done, I would suggest not. The chorus and verse melodies are good and good melodies deserve repeats.
great job!

wait.. &mdash 04/10/07 - 07:55:21 AM
I just read you have the ending, but are saving it.
so..I notice just one thing in the solo, at time 2:49 you slide a note down that seems out of character with the notes surrounding it. but...hey, it's a very cool solo

Thanks for the feedback &mdash 04/10/07 - 09:53:23 AM
Thanks for the feedback about the solo. Thing is... the solo has had some tweaking already done to it for the final (maybe) version and sounds substantialy different. Hope you like what I've done when it is unveiled, so to speak.

what label are you signed on again???

Thanks for ruining my day... I just spent a few hours working on some stuff that I thought was pretty good... until I heard this.

it's evident that you've obviously put a huge amount of time into this. Great work, just wonderful musicianship.

Mason

PS - I meant "Thanks for ruining my day" is a good way ;)

Such professionalism &mdash 04/16/07 - 11:38:54 AM
I love the piano in this. Much warmer and prettier than with the effectized guitar (in the 2nd version). Well, that's what I feel, anyway.

The production is, as many have pointed out, outstanding. You don't hear a lot of this kind of production on here.

Excellent!

Opens like the Eels (which is no bad thing - I love the Eels), very close, dry vocals; then moves off in its own direction. Fabulous. Really should be finished off;-)
