Description:
an old minimalist cutesy poppy tune, this time from 1991-1992. It's one of my favorite Hamlet machines songs, for some reasons. I wrote the lyrics and Brentford plays and sings. The beat comes from a film reel tin box and a car key (!!!). It's very amateurish, which I don't mind in itself, but the background hissing is really too much. If someone can explain me how to filter this down, I'd be grateful.

Lyrics:
I think you can wait forever
what you wait for me to whisper
and yes I've seen her again
a swan
if I ever saw one
and no no no
since you ask me now
it was all in vain
again:

"Oh you never said no, did you
never to anyone ever
and if what they all say is true
you've been everybody's lover
Oh my god what can I do
to be like you want them to ?"

She had the same dress that you wear
oh but on her it looked better
and yes I have tried to speak
a child
in the way she smiled
a whore
with a sense of humour
she made me feel old and weak

"Oh you never said no to anyone
ever never to anyone ever
say, why tell no to someone
just because he loves you better"

there must be a heaven above
for all the girls we ever love
but there should be a hell inside
for all the girls we've never had

Hardware:
a tascam 4-track, or was it an edison 1878 phonograph ?

Software:
remixed in GB3

I had your knack for tin-box percussion and mixing on a phonograph.

solid effort and a sold song. Great work, but yeah that hissing does get to be a little much

Call me crazy but I like the hissing... Love that you use keys and a film tin. Greatness the last stanza.. there must be a heaven above for all the girls we love but hell inside for all the girls we never had. I feel like that everyday... haha. I think that if you mix down using GB go to master track and adjust the gate to get rid of the hiss I think. Another great song CJ

I tried &mdash 04/20/07 - 03:07:49 AM
to work on the master track, but this is the best I could do. I was maybe playing with the wrong AU.
As to the last stanza, it is one of my personal favorites, in spite of the sloppy rhyming.

THEY &mdash 04/20/07 - 04:30:40 PM
This song reminds me so much of the very first (or second?) King Missile album with Dogbowl and Kramer (without the humor). Really has that lazy lo-fi psychedelic sound to the instrumentation and kinda hippie love jam attitude stripped down a bit. Doesn't sound anything like the last 2 Hamlet Machines products, but I like it. Still has some Cure-like moments, but must be before Brentford discovered his thick and nasty over driven rat pedal that I've come to love.

Hissing? I didn't hear any hissing. Must've been that last Ramones concert when I stood in front of Dee Dee's bass amp....

Thanks for sharing this one.

hippie love jam ? &mdash 04/21/07 - 05:56:10 AM
these are fighting words where I come from :) I guess there's always a pop song under the HM's noisy murk.
