You Changed Your Hair

Description
Written as one of a collection of songs about phobias, this one pokes fun at Neophobia- Fear of anything new. I used various apple loops in Logic Express to create the rhythm tracks. The guitar parts were recorded by Murray Peisakoff, playing a Fender Strat into a POD 2. The vocals were recorded primarily with an AKG 414 and Presonus Eureka preamp. The vocal harmonies were created with a Yamaha Pitchfix plug-in. I recorded some of the rhythm by snipping a pair of scissors.

Lyrics

I know that time is running out for you and me
I know it from his card I wasn't supposed to see

'Cause you finally changed your hair-- yeah you changed your hair

You told me that you stayed at work last night-- but that ain't right
You finally changed your hair-- yeah you changed your hair

And you know, its no surprise- I saw it in your eyes
Your bangs were long, now they're gone

I know that time is running out for you and me

'Cause you finally changed your hair-- yeah you changed your hair

And you know, its no surprise- I saw it in your eyes
Your bangs were long, now they're gone

Love the scissors...
...and the whole sound of the song in general. Great sound - very tight and crisp. Lyrics are clever, interesting and funny ("Your bangs were long and now they're gone" - I love it!). I think the singing is great. You have a distinctive vocal, which is rather cool. Nice work. Nice guitar playing too by the way. Cool.

Pure Joy!
This is just such a clever concept for a song and everything from performances to production is really imaginative. dajama beat me to citing the lines I liked most from the song, but these are some great lyrics all-around and I love the scissors, too!!

Happy Scissors
Appreciate your comments! It was fun experimenting with playing the scissors along with the rhythm track. I tried it it a lot of different ways until I started to get a blister on my finger!

Quirky and all too true
The scissors are a wonderful detail. Excellent production; your use of pitch correction is seamless and undetectable. I like the unique vocal stylings. Clever idea well conceived, quirky, and yet absolutely mainstream. This would be a really good film track too.

Pitch fix harmonies
Thanks for all your wonderful comments. Regarding the production-I worked hard to try and get the mix right. I used the Yamaha pitch fix plug-in not only to fix little pitch problems on the main vocal track, but also to create all the vocal harmonies. Great plug-in- wish Yamaha would upgrade it to be dual binary.

I agree
Ths would be a great sound track, but it also stands well on its own.

I love it when
something is sooo different from what I would have come up with... but I wish I did... The whole thing works real well... your choices come at me from perifrial unexpected places... unpredictable is a good thing...

This just works...
...on whatever level you listen on. I love the fact that the lyrics are so wistful and straightforward with a touch of rueful humor... very nice writing. Musically, this whole piece sounds just right too - including the vocals.

Yeah, I love the scissors too. Gimmicky stuff like that can sometimes go wrong in a hurry, but not here. Ju-u-ust right. Very nice. Thanks for this one.
