Description:
Inspired by the Spring, I picked up my classical guitar and after dusting it, I revisited some of my earlier influences and wrote this song. It is a reflection on how things are never the way we remember them being and how we expect time to stand still when we part ways. When I got to the bridge, with its quasi-tango feel, I knew it wouldn't be complete without a flamenco guitar part. Ian Beardsley was the first person that came to mind, and fortunately for me (and you) he agreed to grace this song with an emotion-filled solo. I hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics:
Si Piensas Regresar

Tiene diez años que te fuiste,
dejaste todo, te marchaste de aquí.
No queríamos decir adiós,
pero al agua hay que dejarla correr.

Si piensas regresar
debes saber que aquí
todo ha cambiado ya,
no es lo que un día fue.

Quizá pensaste que en tu ausencia
se detendría el tiempo sin vacilar.
Nunca imaginaste un día volver
y sentirte como extraño en tu hogar.

Si piensas regresar
debes saber que aquí
todo ha cambiado ya,
no es lo que un día fue.
Si piensas regresar,
recuerda que el reloj
tiene que camianr
y que no hay marcha atrás.

If Plan To Come Back

You've been gone for ten years now,
packed up and left it all behind.
We didn't want to ever say goodbye,
but a river always has to run.

If you plan to come back,
there's something you should know.
Everything has changed,
it's not what it once was.

You may have thought that in your absence
time would stand still without a doubt.
Never imagined you'd come back one day
only to feel like a stranger at home.

If you plan to come back,
there's something you should know.
Everything has changed,
it's not what it once was.
If you plan to come back,
remember that the clock
must keep on ticking
and that there's no going back.

relaxed sunday morning mood &mdash 04/04/07 - 03:42:43 AM
A very relaxing track you posted here. Feels like a (late) sunday morning after getting up while having an extensive breakfast. Very relaxing with a practiced choice of instruments ... at least perfectly produced. I liked it very much.

Thanks for listening, and for your kind comments. The whole process of writing and recording this song was sort of relaxed, I'm usually freaked out about something not sounding right or being terribly off. But this song came about rather naturally. I'm glad you get that sense when you hear it. Again, Thanks.

This is fantastic. I'm listening a second time now. This post and your last one just make me want to listen again and again. Every little sound in it belongs there. Very well put together (though I'd question allowing the electronic sounds to close the song, but I don't know that I'm right about that). Your voice is beautiful in this, full of emotion, and also just cool! Have you heard Cafe Tacuba and Aterciopelados? You've got their "coolness" here. This song belongs in the soundtrack of an artsy Mexican movie.

Estella, such nice comments! Thank you so much. I appreciate your feedback and opinion. About the electronic drum sounds closing the song... you may be right, it probably is a bit of a shock. What I've been trying to do with my last two tracks is make my love for electronic music and my love with latin american music get along! I'm still figuring out how to do it (Aterciopelados and Cafe Tacuba are great examples of that), so any feedback is welcome. Again, thanks for listening and commenting.

Good Morning &mdash 04/04/07 - 10:18:01 AM
This was a wonderful song to wake-up with this morning. I'm still a bit bleary-eyed and only halfway through my coffee, but your song makes me think today will be a good day. I'm going to load this on my iPod for my morning walk.

I love the lyric:

Never imagined you'd come back one day
only to feel like a stranger at home.

This mix is just perfect, very nice space and tonal balance, just the amount of f/x and I really love the little electronic percussion and keyboards; it takes it into a more contemporary place and Sergioizes it.

I think Estella might be right about the electronic sounds at the end, but I think it might be that if they faded out more quickly, that they would work better. I'm truly picking nits on a pretty much perfect song and Ian did a terrific job with the flamenco guitar!

Lisa, thank you so much for your comment. When I write lyrics, I usually write from personal experience. This song, however, is particularly dear to me, I've been away for home for ten years now and I still haven't gotten over it ... I probably never will. So I'm glad to know that line spoke to you somehow. Again, thanks for your thoughts...it means a lot to me!

...Sergio, just bloody BRILLIANT-I especially like the combination of electronic sounds with the acoustic guitar. They just 'fit' so well together...you have a good ear for orchestration my friend!

Alf, my dear friend! I'm so glad you liked this song, I had the best time working on it. It came about a lot faster and much more naturally than the others. It felt pleasantly effortless. I'm really happy with the result and your comments mean a lot to me! So, thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts!

excellent .. &mdash 04/06/07 - 08:24:44 AM

fantastic mix and production here Sergio, spot on.
Vocals and lyrics are excellent. All the instruments, beats all just blend so well- nothing wrong with bringing some electronica in with more traditional sounds in my book, something I like to dabble with myself. Nice extra guitar work from Ian too, extra spice. Really like the
feel of this. Ending sounds ok to me.

Really liked the layed back mood of this. Enjoyed your voice and tasty bits of marimba and well placed concertina or accordian sounds. Also liked how you mixed the bossa nova with the tango.
Terrific tune, thanks for sharing.
