Description:
This is song 9 of my 52 to record this year. I'm calling it "pop," because it's probably as close as I ever get to an ordinary 3-minute pop song. This is a guilty pleasure song for me. I hope it's fun for someone else out there. I'll post the whole story and lyrics on my blog sometime soon: http//web.mac.com/...
Lyrics:
SOMEONE LIKE YOU
I’ve been a loner,
been one too many years.
I keep to myself—
there’s nobody here.
But since I met you,
I’m seeing it differently.
When I meet your gaze,
I feel a brand new need.
Chorus:
Someone like you could make me fall
Someone like you could make me fall
Someone like you could make me want it all
and do everything it takes
someone like you.
I’ve been a loner.
It’s been a long time
before I realized:
the sentence doesn’t fit the crime.
I got to be careful
when I’m out on a limb—
my heart pumping loud
and I want you near again (chorus)
Someday, somehow, somewhere I’ll say okay.

I love the beginning also it would be interesting to hear You do some real rockin : ) : ) Anyway I don't vote because it's so subjective & can be a matter of what mood you're in that Today this has TENS across the board : ) [ Reply to This ]

I... guess I don't mind getting 10's across the board.... Thanks for your encouraging words. [ Reply to This ]

wow, a song a week for a year? whew, especially if they're all gonna measure up to this. Nice sense of melody and structure. A real POP feel. you do all the instruments? cool [ Reply to This ]

Thanks! I don't literally play all of the instruments. Like, the rhodes riff in this song is one of the appleloops which comes with GarageBand. And, I've been programming the basslines because my bass is in storage, though they're all parts I would have played if I'd had the instrument.I'm finding it easier than I expected to keep up with a song a week--at least so far. I've always been fairly prolific. I once challenged myself to write a song every day one year. Wrote nearly 200 songs--not a song a day, but more than most people write, period. Most of them weren't any good, but I got a few good ones in there. "Valhalla" (http://www.macjams.com/song/18709http://www.macjams.com/song/18709) was written that year. The real hard part has been finding a place to record the acoustic tracks. I don't have a regular home and have been staying at a friend's place for several months. They have two children. I have to wait until everyone is out of the house to lay down tracks and when I do, I have to very quickly set up a recording space, thenrecord lots and lots of tracks. [ Reply to This ]
Playing all of the instruments &mdash 04/10/07 - 04:47:09 PM
Something I should say.... While I have been playing all of the instruments on my songs so far, I'm open to collaboration. That's one area about MJ which intrigues me, though I haven't really done it. If someone out there has a song they'd like me to play on, or would like to play something on one of mine, I'd like to try. Especially keyboard players and fiddlers. I feel like my keyboard playing/programming is pretty rudimentary and, while I've always loved the sound of a fiddle, I've never found a sampler which could give me a believable part.
