Description:
This is another song that reflects my obsession with 60's pop. It was recorded on my friends Pro Tools rig.

My friend Scott played drums, and Io played bass and sang backups. We have played together off and on for 10 years now. Typically, we play the song once or twice, and then add backups, and any extra overdubs (in this case a slide solo). In this case, we had all gone camping at the beach in Santa Barbara the week before; and Io and I worked out the harmonies a little bit.

The song is about how we had gone on tour for a long time, and when we came home, there was a totally different scene. I felt a little outside of it all (kind of like I didn't know anyone at my own party), but at the same time I was happy that I didn't feel the need to try and horn in on their scene (in a pathetic attempt at staying young and relevant - which I'm not). This song is basically about coming to terms with getting older, and not completely relating to my successors. It's how it should be; and now I'm totally cool with it.

Lyrics:
Some get worn
Some get used
Some get torn
And some get bruised
If there's a reason why, I don't know

Some get tossed about
Some get lost
Some show promise and finally move on
If there's a reason why, I don't know

I'm the architect of my own life
I can change myself any time
I'm the one who puts my feet on the ground
With every step I take

Some get seasoned and some get burned
Some fall out and end up in the dirt
If there's a reason why, I don't know

I'm the architect of my own life
I can change myself any time
I'm the one who puts my feet on the ground
With every step I take

Some make friends and then
Some make fools of themselves
Every night when they're strutting around
If there's a reason why, I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know

Love the easy feel, the almost Hawaiian surfer traveling folk musician teflon vibe. Perfect for the lyric. Really nice.

Great voice, laid back lyrics. The casual treatment/approach works really well. The song is instantly likable. Great.

thanks for listening &mdash 04/07/07 - 05:09:30 PM
i'm so glad that you liked the song. i am always torn between my loves for sound, noise, and melody. the good thing about getting older is I don'y really have to form a band, pick a "sound" and then stay within the confines of that sound.

Toptastic &mdash 04/07/07 - 07:14:51 PM
Love the voice. Truly. The song: Great! Fantastic guitar, laid back and resonant. Lyrics: Cheeky yet accepting. Reminds me of an Unplugged Cobain. One question: Where the hell do you get flatwounds for guitar??? Kind regards, Girk

thanks for listening and commenting. very kind. this was one of those thrown together affairs that works for me. as far as the flatwounds goes: i bought them at a little music store I used to work at, but now i buy them at guitar center. they on a hollowbody, have a tone that I just love. i think that i may upload this whole album (we recorded the whole thing in a weekend). thanks again.

now i am going to check out your stuff (people leaving comments is how i find them).

This is fantastic! &mdash 04/08/07 - 04:44:34 AM
I can't stop playing this tune. I see a slow mo/pan to Sawyer or Hurley stomping along Lost! It's simple, unpretentious and highly polished. Love it! Best wishes, Girk

Good Song &mdash 07/19/08 - 02:50:05 PM
What is great about this guitar is that the arrangement and production is there to enhance the song and not some other component of the song. The vocalist, lead guitarist, drummer, producer, etc. are not showing off. They are playing to make the song better and they succeeded.

Great job!

Forgot to add &mdash 07/19/08 - 02:55:49 PM
that the song reminds me a little of "Sea of Love" by Phil Phillips from the golden oldie era.

"Do you remember when we met?
That was the day, I knew you were my pet.
I want to tell you how much I love you."
