Description:
I've had the beginning in my head for quite some time and have been stuck there until recently.
I'm more or less just playing a bit with some improvisation in this one. Most of the melodies are just from the top of my head, although not all of them.

I might have rushed the ending a bit (I tend to do that), so please - be as honest as possible!
I'm also a teensy bit confused about the genre (I always am), so any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Yay! &mdash 04/06/07 - 07:51:18 AM
Been a while since you've uploaded something! Good to hear a new piece. :)

You've got that Mancini sound down pat, methinks - but you go beyond and of course it's all Ein.

Length... hm... It doesn't sound like it ends too soon to me.

nice & sparse &mdash 04/06/07 - 08:04:56 AM
nothing wrong with sparse. Great "strutting" music, sort of melancholy, but still has a feeling of strength and purpose. Feels like there might be room for a little sparkly thing here and there, but its pretty nice by itself.

Enjoyable craftsmanship &mdash 04/06/07 - 08:07:31 AM
Excellent production, solid playing. Very nice upbeat pop feel, excellent electric piano choices. Reminded me of a really nice film soundtrack. I wouldn't place it under jazz, precisely. Maybe smooth jazz, but really more of a pop instrumental with R&B influences. I enjoy your postings so much, such craftsmanship and such a good ear. Very enjoyable.

... &mdash 04/06/07 - 08:13:29 AM
.. very nice, jolly. Sparse in a good way - leaving room for those instruments to shine.

Like when the bass and drums kick in. That clav sound always make me think "Supertramp", I can't help it. Nice phrase with the string wash under it, liked that - be a great chorus/hook - so it would be great to have some vocals on this. Ending sounds fine and appropriate to me. Good work. Thanks for sharing Einar.

hard to do &mdash 04/06/07 - 09:03:15 AM
as in write a great pop tune with monster hooks and sparse instrumentation. You've succeeded here. Nice dramatic build with some wonderful progression changes and smart instrument selections. Reminded me a little of steeley dan, maybe its that EP sound. Is that a soft synth? its got that oh so sweet crunchy wurlitzer sound with just the right amount of distortion cameo. cool track..you always demonstarte such gift for melody, it blows me away

Really like the strings there in the end. Brings continuity to strutting sound. Working on some stuff and good to listen to.

Excellent (again!) &mdash 04/06/07 - 10:07:46 AM
This could be the perfect soundtrack for the beginning of a movie - introducing the character going to work or going about his daily routine. It's so obvious that making music comes so easy to you. That spontaneous outpour of creative energy - you either got it or or you don't. And your music always sounds fresh and never contrived - no matter which genre. Now at the risk that I'll say something I'll curse myself later for - here are a few ideas I had. I could imagine the bass being more punchy and pronounced, contrasting the softer synth, epiano, string setup. Also you could introduce another solo instrument to add some spice and variety towards the end. I like the way you end the song though, I think it's perfect - unassuming and understated. Always a wonderful experience listening to your music!

matches my mood tonight &mdash 04/06/07 - 11:52:31 AM
hey einarus.
im a bit low tonight and not really in a mood of up-lifting happy-poppy song. but this one matches perfectly. i like how the song developes when the many other instruments kick in in the middle. great arrangement. and wonderful songwriting!

oh if i may say &mdash 04/06/07 - 11:56:09 AM
... i thought it would be nice if you'd change the velocity of each note of the piano more, so that it would sound more um.... human. but maybe it was all intentional?

[ Reply to This ]
I really like it &mdash 04/06/07 - 03:58:45 PM
It's infectious...I keep thinking of the pink panther - I think it's because this is just so groovy but with sounds that aren't quite human - would be great for an animated short film or just a short film come to think of it. But if the sounds aren't human, the composition is...that's why it's so irresistable.

Slick &mdash 04/06/07 - 04:04:47 PM
Slinky and catchy, too. Einar, you never fail to deliver something creative with killer melodies and beats. Great work.

Great development - and the drums &mdash 04/06/07 - 06:22:04 PM
are just killer. Very sophisticated composition with lots of swing and punch. I'm really impressed with how casual and yet tight this is. Simply wonderful. Reminds me a little of Jon Brion. The ending is fine. I think if you made more out of it it would betray the easy feel of the piece.

A good composition ! &mdash 04/06/07 - 06:27:44 PM
I wonder if you could improve the orchestral sound of it a little more - a warmer sound for the Organg and the strings more to the foreground perhaps.

is that you have terrific since of being hip in a cool way:) At least to my ears. So many tunes of your has such refreshing rhythms you really groove to.

Uplifting in a hep groove kind of way. A rare gift E. You have great control of jazzy pop keyboarding that is really top rate for my ears.

Love the keys &mdash 04/07/07 - 10:50:57 AM
I just read all the other comments and it is hard to add. I think I agree the most with APB's comments about the percussion and strings. You asked about the end so here are my two cents: maybe you could sneak in two more chords before the finale chord instead of just the one.

Solid &mdash 04/07/07 - 07:44:53 PM
Persicion in each note excellent melody. great movement. I like were it takes you in the center. When the chord structure just pulls the chair out from uunder you. greatness

It grew on me &mdash 04/08/07 - 06:18:37 PM
Sort of a broadway tune on the Rhodes. Oh, that's a really nice bass tone. The organ sort of comes out of nowhere but it's a nice touch. SImple chord progression, but there are some nice jazzy resolutions in there. I really like the build of this piece, especially the entrance of the strings. You did a good job with the MIDI making it sound realistic. It's nice to hear your tunes as always.

Ha ha, enjoyed it... &mdash 04/11/07 - 02:52:22 PM
...for possibly obvious reasons. I need to put this on my iPod for when I'm putting off doing my work by taking a nice long relaxing walk. Really enjoyed the vibe! Seems more jazzy than poppy to me but what's in a name.

Whenever I hear a track of yours, Ein, I'm reminded of how darned talented you are!

(Go out and start getting paid for all this talent, already! ;)

Really lovely track. Love the pace and lightness of it. Glad you're still making music and sharing it here.

This one will be added to my 'music for walking' playlist :D

Musically this is incredibly strong for such a simple peace. Insturmentals rarely keep my attention or make me feel much, but this does. Maybe it's my mood today. Anyway, really nice.

It's stuff like this that has me procrastinating, you know? you come on here for a minute just to do a little wandering, then you come across something of this magnetude, and you've just wricked your whole day. Ha. This is one of those pices that has me inspired to work on something. It serves as a reminder that there are still so many good ideas kicking around, so I should get up and be part of it.
Thank you.

I would put it &mdash 06/07/07 - 08:15:07 PM
under "inspirational" because that's the vibe I get off it. Nice melody, nice playing - love the keyboard sound! - and lovely rhythm. The ending is abrupt, but doesn't sound like it's happened by accident or anything. If these are the melodies from the top of your head, I can't imagine what you've got going on deep down in there! Nice work. Peace.
