Description
This is my first song posted here, it is also the first song on the album I'm currently making.

I wanted to create to create a song that would capture the feeling of city life, filled with it's paranoia, isolation, and it's daily routine.

I'm new to all of this and would appreciate any feedback.

This city makes me complete
Where no one cares to know you
Emotions are forced to Decieve
Suspicious glances on rainy streets

We'll meet tonight in some cafe
and pretend that we're in love
Though theres no chemisry
between you and I
Our lust will be quenced
by the morning light

engulf the darkness
Welcome to Macjams, nice first post! This has a bit of the dissonant minor-mode synthy "Darkwave" gritty feel I like, and I also think the lyrics will fit this well. Some quick minor critiques though... The main (melody) synth you use has a really harsh sound, and though it fits here, it is slightly loud in the mix I think... you may want to back it off a little. Of course, if it is the melody line and you're going to sing over this, then it will need to go further back anyway. I liked the city sfx near the end, but you may want to foreshadow them by having just a taste of city noise near the beginning (prior to any vox) as well, just to set the mood. I like the dark, plodding pace of this, and the twisted tremolo-synths... I think it comes close to giving the gritty-city feel you are after. I look forward to the development of this, and more music from you.

Thanks
Thanks for the feedback Drak, I'm definitely going to remaster this song considering your suggestions. Next time I repost this song I'll have the vocals in there.

interesting
it had a real blade runner retro 80's rush style keyboard thing going on, and i liked it. i have to agree with the mix thing, but mixing is a touchy deal at times. i, myself am having a tough time with all the nuances. really good monitors, and closed cel headphones. it makes all the difference. they also make monitor stands that keep the vibration from your speakers out of the mix, and those really do work.
good first post! gimme more now!!

New to mixing
I'm still trying to get a hang on mixing too. Sometimes tracks are too loud, too quiet, etc.

The Blade Runner comment was interesting. I've never seeb the whole movie, just bits and pieces. I draw my influences from a lot of late 70's, 80's synth music, especially John Foxx and early Gary Numan.

Ahh, yes! Darkness...
Welcome to MJ! Great track! As Drak states, it's got a darkwave feel about it (which I really dig on). You have some wonderful elements mixed into this tune and it takes one away for a while. I really look forward to hearing more tracks from you. I like your name, by the way. I used to be a New Romantic (back in the day). Hahaha! I know....I'm dating myself. Anyway, keep up the great work! Oh...one more thing; I noticed you were using the E-MU XBoard 49 with Logic. I was considering the purchase of Logic, but wasn't sure what Keyboard to get, to use with it. I am trying to down-size the size of my equipment, because I will be moving back to southern California soon and need a smaller keyboard. I was just wondering how you like your E-MU 49. Thanks for sharing!

Darkwave and New Romantics
Thanks for the comments Boris. I've never listened to Darkwave before, I'll have to look into that genre.

Well I'm too young to remember the New Romantics of the early 80's- I'm turning 26 next week... But it's an image I'm trying to assimilate into my music, but updated for the 21st Century. I think I'll skip the mascara though.

I like my X Board 49, it's a decent midi controller. I don't use it's knobs for the Logic synths though, mostly use it with the impOSCar to play with the LFO, decay, attack, etc.
