Song Description

The Clairsentient

the lights and the beat
saturate our senses

look into my eyes
focus - zoom in here
pick up this thought

let your body free
cut your puppet strings
dance on automatic
cruise control

clear your mind
of every thought
seek the horizon
become a psychic
antenna

can you hear me now?

can you hear
every mind
on this dance floor
in this city
around the world

i can

Wow Bill - this really cool &mdash 04/06/07 - 04:35:37 PM
You're really getting into the vocal sample trip lately - this is pretty amazing and fun, and I have no idea how you did it. Is your voice in there anmywhere? Who are all yhose people? How'd you get em all in your song. I'm really impressed!
The coolest thing about MJ is that you never know what you're gonna hear next - and in some cases from any one person - and you're one of thise people. Always something different.

hey Bud! yeah, goin' a bit wacky on the vocals lately, eh?

this is WorldMusic JamPack mostly - except for the bass loop (modified per SmokeyVW randomization algorithm #42, er, was that #69?)

i didn't count how many tracks there are in here - it's at least three pages when scrolling with all of them open on the volume automation waveforms... maybe 40 tracks?

i had loads of fun crossfading the bejeesis out of this! it felt like skimming over the waves at 80 MPH.

i also felt a whopping pang of guilt here. Apple hired some team of folks to produce all the wonderful vocal loops on this JamPack - and i just combined a whole lot of it into one (just one) track. burned up hours of their work in just one 3+ minute track. i should be ashamed.

(the school of: if a lot is good, too much is even better)

thanks for listening

Thanks for explo - I gotta get with &mdash 04/07/07 - 07:47:42 PM
the world packs. BTW - I meant to tell you how much I liked the poem that accopanied this tune - and even just the concept of pairing the two. Cool. Check my reply to your "Are You Sure?" comment on my page when you get a chance.

whoa! &mdash 04/06/07 - 04:37:29 PM
And now for something completely different! where did you get all the different voices or is that you using fx. dont matter. One part sounds like someone chanting something about a hundred dollar bill. A definit different sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i heard that "$100 bill" thing after you mentioned it. previously i thought i heard something about "lot a people goin' boom boom boom" - but who knows? it's probably an African tongue. no idea what it actually means. neither the Cuban lines - hope they aren't swearing or something worse!

thanks

Beat &mdash 04/07/07 - 09:06:59 AM
The beat here is infectious. The layered voices are very cool. Thanks for sharing.

the original version of this song had no bass, no drums. it was a pure acappella mix. (perhaps i should post that one too?) i felt it was missing a key ingredient. so the drums and bass got in there... i felt 'infected' too by the latin beat mixed with the dance synth bass thing. then i knew this one was worthy of a macjams post...

thanks for listening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

post those lyrics! &mdash 04/12/07 - 04:56:23 PM
:-)...I kept trying to pick out a part to sing along. I eventually landed in a nice chant part. So whats the title inference? well done!

I agree with Bud, I never know what to expect when listening to your posts. dats good

the title implication? my imagination running wild:

one concept here is that dancing decouples your motor cortex control from the functions in the cerebral cortex. that leaves part of your mind occupied with moving to the beat, while the higher reasoning centers are free do to other things...

the other things can be influenced by the emotions of dancing in a crowd with your friends having fun, and/or perhaps you with someone special, or you've been ingesting things. whatever it is, the feelings of connection with everyone, that is, every living thing on the planet, can appear in the higher reasoning parts of the mind. i think grinning usually occurs at this point.

if/when that happens, interesting psychic (new age-y) things can happen, such as believing you are clairsentient: able to feel the emotional energy of those around you - and perhaps even the entire world.

the beat in this song is mean to be the first part of this premise.

the multicultural vocal loops are meant to imply the second part.

the picture also refers to this general idea.

(you had to ask!)

thanks for listening John
