Description:
Another "pure pop for now people" type of song. Picture an indie 60's motown harmony acid freak out.
this song also features Scott and Io (my pop band of choice).
Hardware:
fender tele, fender twin, fender jazz bass, gretsch drums, no name 60's fuzz box, ampeg 70's bass combo, tambourine, fender rhodes mark V, SM57 mics, mac G3
Software:
recorded on my friends pro-tools rig. this was the first song we cut that day, so we hadn't perfected the mic placement yet. plus the action on the Rhodes almost killed me; i've since gotten used to it.

Paisley groove &mdash 04/10/07 - 09:20:36 AM
I dig the retro feel, the vocal stylings, the step back in time nostalgia. Happy track. Nice electric piano choice. In my ears, the percussion is maybe too repetitively programmed, maybe slightly hyperactive, for the easy happy feel of the piece; for example, the tambourine shakes are frenetic, I'd rather picture Davy Jones just having fun; and even tho the cymbals sound really good, I know from my own stuff they rarely work on a MIDI track. The synth swell solos made me smile. Solid writing. I really enjoyed the unabashedly 60s pop feel. Paisley bellbottoms all over, with a psychedelic kaleidoscopic ending (the party must have continued after the lyrics stopped)! [ Reply to This ]

i'm glad you like the song. although actually there is no MIDI on the track at all. everything was played live on real instruments: the piano was hard to play (bad action and you can hear the keys squeaking), forgot to turn on the snare drum mic,... i have actually thought myself that the tambourine could/should mix it up a bit more, but them's the breaks. never got any copies of the files except for .m4a (wasn't thinking ahead, and now my friend is somewhere unkown). thanks so much for listening. hey welcome to macjams; i've been around for a couple of weeks now and it's been fun. got some good tips, met some nice people, even got some free loops and a cello (check the media center under "my macjams" on the right). looking forward to hearing your stuff. thanks for stopping by. I'm fallin in love with this retro, totally stylish reborn pop thing your doing. The fact that your playing all the instruments leaves my jaw on the floor. man your forearms, fingers must have fallen off after this.
Great sound. [ Reply to This ]

yeah, i love pop sometimes ( i go through phases). i didn't actually play everything though (scott played drums and persussion, and Io played bass and did back-up vocals). none of us are very good with pro-tools, so we basically used it like an 8 track: "everyone plug in and play then we'll throw on the vocals and a guitar overdub." we would probably have just kept the scratch vocals, but then you'd hear me shouting out the chord changes. from the "now people" for this. The fuzz final freak-out is ten minutes too short, but apart from this it's exactly "cool". DL'ed. [ Reply to This ]

Very Cool &mdash 03/06/08 - 01:41:09 PM
The Rhodes sounds right at home in this tune. There is definitely a tendency to distort when jamming on a real rhodes.
Hopping tune here too. Like the vocals and the lead guitar the best :)
Thanks
