Description:
Another song from the session on my friends Pro-Tools set up. This song is more of a ballad with major/minor chord changes. I really like the melody on this one. Wish that I had put more harmonies on it when we cut the track.
Lyrics:
you say you lost control
it's never yours
you say you lost your faith
then try another prayer
you say you lost your will to live
you say you seen it all
you can give it all away
don't need it anymore
(chorus)
why does nothing last?
it always goes away
why is everything in blue?
the hours turn to dust
didn't leave the house
sat around all day
you say you lost your friends
you don't need them anyway
you say you lost your will to live
you say you seen it all
you can give it all away
don't need it anymore
(chorus)
why does nothing last?
it always goes away
why is everything in blue?
the hours turn to dust
(bridge)
i close my eyes again
and go to sleep
i feel like nothings ever gonna be the same
again
you say you lost your faith
then try another prayer
you say you lost your friends
you don't need them anymore

nice .. &mdash 04/11/07 - 02:54:32 PM
cool little vibe you got going here. A kinda over Radiohead feel but with some bits of the vocal melodies reminding me of "Winds of Change" by the Scorpions for some strange reason.
Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. [ Reply to This ]
much appreciated &mdash 04/11/07 - 04:23:21 PM
thanks you guys for listening and taking the time out for a comment.
the scorpions huh? do you mean where the vocal melody goes up? i've never heard that comparison before, but maybe I should do a hair metal re-mix, complete with dueling harmony leads. i'll have to go get a fan first, so that I can keep my long flowing locks out of my face while looking mournfully out the tour bus window. lol:) [ Reply to This ]

Dust across the universe &mdash 04/12/07 - 07:56:50 AM
Heartfelt, simple, direct. Condensed and tuneful, with Lennon-like chord progressions and delivery. You have an excellent collection here. Thank you so much for posting them. You are a marvelous addition to MJ and I look forward to each track you share. I wouldn't change a thing on this track. Very well done. [ Reply to This ]
touch &mdash 04/12/07 - 08:27:39 AM
of the dischord sets this one apart. Puts me in a John Lennon listening mood :) - crap, I hate doing comparisons.... This may be predictable to some, but refreshing nonetheless.

To me the change up is more reminiscent of the Stones' "Wild Horses", but the change back down is definitely Lennon. A well produced, interesting and well written song with just enough points of interest (the slide parts stand out) without overdoing anything. A good balance.
Love the mites in the pic :)

Prom track! &mdash 04/15/07 - 01:41:35 AM
Never been to the prom, but they'd by crying in the aisles if they played this. Really great track Mike - production is clear and simple. The chord changes you use are really lovely, and your voice has a nice world weary flavour. Reminds me a little of Radiohead/Bends era. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Dayton? &mdash 04/16/07 - 05:56:07 PM
Did you ever live in Dayton, Ohio? You sound exactly like this guy I played with once or twice. Overall a nice sleepy song. Very enjoyable. [ Reply to This ]
nope &mdash 04/16/07 - 09:57:49 PM
never lived in Dayton, although I've played there in the 90's and did some serious thrift store shopping. [ Reply to This ]
Great tune &mdash 04/17/07 - 01:00:03 AM
What great chord changes.
The chorus is very hip.
The lyric hit home cause i have a friend in need of up lifting tonight.
the mites in your pic are strange dude.
I love the touches of slide geetar in the back of your vox.
You have a great voice for this tune...very blue, very blue.
Reminds me at times of John Lennon in "I'm so Tired"
hard to go so slow...
love the line
"you say you lost your faith
then try another prayer"
I'm thankful for this song!
gonna keep this on the hard drive
Peace

Very Crafty: A real Gem... &mdash 04/19/07 - 12:44:19 PM
Extremely competant guitar and a voice churning intimacy with clear resonant diction. A harmony on the second chorus (words or chorale) would be the icing on an exceptinally delivered slow bake cake (I note you're already thinking of it). A juicy number! The guitar effect of slide hammer legato is very crafty consonance! Hell of a tune! I really like your style and songs. The ambient guitar loop music you did is also very crafty... Your guitar style is pretty unique and eclectic in musicality. Sound! [ Reply to This ]
well hello there &mdash 04/19/07 - 06:40:48 PM
my friend. so glad you came by. thank you for listening, but i need clarification on something you said:
: "The guitar effect of slide hammer legato is very crafty consonance"
what does that mean? i'm a total idiot musically speaking, and i'm not sure what the legato thing is, or what consonance is (although I'm assuming it's pretty much the opposite of dissonance). i should know these things, ignorance was expected back in the punk rock days, but I'm thinking a little knowledge would be helpful at this point in the game.
again, thanks for popping in and saying hi. [ Reply to This ]

Nice song, wanted to comment on "Someday" as well.
There's a lot of variety in your songs,
I think experimentation is great to have for musicians.
