Keywords:
psychedelic (73)space (131)spacerock (2)sci-fi cabaret (1)the loneliness of interstellar travel (1)indie (122)lo-fi (34)cinematic (73)
Description:
This is a science fiction nightmare, It's all cabaret chords, played like Brian Eno and the Flaming Lips sadly floating through space. I like to think of it as haunting.

Lyrics:
i was there
the day they came
they came right down and split the world in two

that's how they are
that's how they play
they'd like to turn us all to balls of clay

(chorus)
outside
standing all alone
i know who they really are
if only today they saw my face

then the sky, it turned to gray
and all the flowers they bent down to pray
i was there, i was scared
i thought that i would probably blow away

(chorus)
outside
standing all alone
i know who they really are
if only today they saw my face

then the sun, it showed it's face
it laughed and made them run
and called them names
i was scared, but they were more so
i could see them as they fell to earth

(chorus)
that night
standing all alone
i know who we really are
cuz i saw the face of God

Just superb! - I love this, you know there are parts of this song that remind me of John Lennon, ie Lennon quality, I am a huge beatles fan and I don't say this lightly. I love the piano chords and your singing has style.

Best Regards

Steve

thank you &mdash 04/14/07 - 12:50:13 AM
very nice of you to say so. i also love lennon (especially the beautiful simplicity of his melodies). this is one of my favorite songs I've done, not sure why. i wish I could have used a real piano on this one, but there wasn't one available. i might try re-recording it after i get my piano tuned, but then again, i may just spend the time on another song. time is a pretty precious commodity at this point.

Great psych pop/rock track..... impressive performance and production. Sounds a bit like one of Secret Machines' slower tracks. Very enjoyable listen...cheers!

Brain ENo and Flaming lips are 2 of my most listened to and favorite artist I swear I cant listen to at war with mystics enough. Oh yeah your great!! you ever check out Muse. Your vocals sound like that except without the opratic pitches. This song is totaly excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

high praise indeed. i've been into the instrumental version of war with the mystic latrely. thanks for the compliment, and for actually taking the time to listen to this stuff.

Another great track. Your vocals are so good. At first, the way you don't pick up your foot from the hold pedal bugged me, but then the piling up of low-mid harmonics started to saturate and oppress, becoming an important aspect of the sonic storytelling. Really nice. Another piece of art, transcending genre.

all of my piano player friends are always telling me to let off the sustain pedal. i just love the undefined washiness; it's like a delay pedal on an electric guitar. who knows, when i become a better piano player someday, i may develop a complete disdain for the sustain pedal. this song has a midi piano on it so it doesn't work as well as my real piano for the "permanent sustain." i think it's because the polyphony can't keep up.

i'm glad you liked the song, or should i say you "got it." it's kind of my paranoid version of "after the goldrush." thanks for stopping by.
