very nice feel. this is one of those type of songs that makes me wish i spent more time learning to play the piano. not that i'ld ever be able to come anywhere close.

this was one of those "outpouring of the soul" kinda things.

if i truly knew what i was doing, i could play this anytime, anywhere. as it is, i'm glad i managed to capture it. i likely will never play it again... it's a screenshot, a snapshot, a digitized moment in time, a record of how i felt at the time.

now it's gone forever. except for this MIDI file.

thank you Vic

really?! we currently have another black cat too.

years ago, we had an all white cat. people kept asking us if he was deaf. i guess there is some strange thing about cat's fur color and their senses.

i read some place that with calico cats if there is a color boundary crossing over an eye or an ear, that that organ won't work well, if at all. i don't know if that's true, or just another myth.

i'm glad you liked this song - thanks for listening and commenting

Love the tones and you captured the feelings you talk of...or at least i felt sadness in you tune.
Nice snap shot of your talent.

I was listening to this again tonight... And I just felt so overcome with a strange wave of sadness as I sat alone in the living room, contemplating my future. This music is beautiful... and it induced me to some reflection.

thanks

i read your comment, and it prompted me to listen to this song again, as a listener.

as the last two notes faded away, i felt that wave too. it hadn't quite grabbed me that way before while i was working on it. i needed some distance to see it i guess.

man. where did this song come from?

Absolutely Lovely &mdash 04/18/07 - 12:13:28 AM
Bill, as other people have said, this is just filled with emotion, both in the way you played it and the song itself. Is it an improvisation?

It's really beautiful and wonderfully kind of you to take the time to post this song, now. I'm grateful.

strangeness &mdash 04/18/07 - 05:28:18 PM
it really was an "outpouring" - why i believe in that silly idea about the Muses... it is way cool when they visit - way, way cool.

yes, it was an improv followed by some tweaking, i used the "plankton process" here - similar to that used on http://www.macjams.com/song/21707

sometimes an event happens a little before another causal event, almost like they were delivered here to the world in the wrong order. in this case, my improv was recorded and edited a few days before i saw your post about the sad death of your kitty. it was a floating, unexplained song for a few days. but it suddenly clicked when i read your post.

now, i'm an engineer by profession. so fuzzy, goofy stuff like this doesn't fit my worldview. and yet this kind of thing has happened before, and likely will again. and the engineer in me says: yeah, this makes no logical sense, but it's a data point, and it should not be tossed out simply because i have no theory to integrate it with. (and, yes, i know about the ideas of coincidence, and how human perception tried real hard to detect patterns, sometimes too hard.)

still, this data point exists. and the emotional content came from somewhere...

thank you for listening. i hope it might have helped comfort you in a small way.

What an amazing improvisation. For "a little song about a tiny soul", this piece is filled with incredible movement and depth. The way you played it is so filled with emotion. Beautiful.

A beautiful piece &mdash 04/29/07 - 05:45:47 PM
from the very first notes I felt contentment enfold me. Peaceful. I found your tribute contemplative - not mournful - time given in rememberance of something beautiful. A gift we give each other kept in the heart.

i'm still not sure exactly how i feel about this piece yet. there's an element of sadness for me, but something else too. maybe it's simply about memories, and the way you can both smile to yourself about good recollections yet simultaneously feel sad at the loss of those events to time...

thanks for listening and commenting :-)
