Description:
Thanks Neil!!!
Silver
jiguma say:
Massimo emailed with another song to play with - what could I say? :)
One of the things I enjoy about doing these with Massi is that he always
sends a great backing track, but that track is wide open to interpretation.
I've been wanting to do a "wall of sound" vocal harmony for a while now, and
had fun singing the various parts. My favourite bit here was doing the
guitar solo though. The song is simply a reflection of young love - from a
fairly distant vantage point mind you.
Thanks Massi for this lovely tune.

Crazy Moon
Lyrics © 2007 Neil Porter
We watched another pastel sky pre-sunset
We lay there looking at a crazy moon
There are days that are in my mind yet
Those are days that were lost too soon
Looking at
Crazy moon
Take me back
Crazy moon
Words were said, there were words unspoken
Eyes wide open, sight unseen
Hearts were promised, hearts were broken
And all positions in between
Looking at
Crazy moon
Take me back
Crazy moon
Summer days full of expectations
Summer nights in a summer dream
Summer sighs over summer madness
Young love under a crazy moon

Maybe because I'm become dad?? :)
Sorry Neil about no lyrics...

Hey Massi, I didn't realise you'd just become a dad! Congratulations and welcome to the club. No problems about the lyrics, just as easy for me to post them.

I can't imagine, I really can't... &mdash 04/14/07 - 07:15:11 PM
How you two put this together...
Who did the mix? You're both guys who like to mix...This one has great balance...
I love the electric guitar playing in the right channel. That's some cool stuff... Those background vocals are pretty neat, too...
Drums are ALWAYS tight in a Sil-VER production, and so they are here, and the synths are working right with them...
All in all, a neat effort from the two of you...

Thanks for the comment Ed &mdash 04/14/07 - 07:24:51 PM
The way Massi does these is to send a (nearly) finished track - production standard - already mixed. I found that the melody and words came to me very quickly (maybe a day), then I start recording. First run through gave me the first of the background harmonies, and eventually the 4 part backing vocals emerged. Then did the lead vocal, and the lead guitar in the right channel. I mixed the background vocals and sent them as one aif to Massi, together with a lead vocal aif and a guitar aif. Massi did the final mix, including the low vox sound in the chorus. It's really nice not to have to worry about anything much except the vocals and guitar. I am always confident of Massi doing a good final mix.

i sincerly mean that in a good way. liked the different feel and approach between the verse and chorus sections. there are some interesting little things hiding in there. i always like a aural scavenger hunt. Neil, you got out easy this time, nice intense guitar lines. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks for the visit Vic &mdash 04/16/07 - 01:03:52 AM
If you like the odd aural scavenger hunt, you'll find lots to enjoy in Massi's other collabs etc on his MJ bio page. These collabs are just so much fun to do.
Cheers,

Epic sound &mdash 04/15/07 - 05:40:21 AM
Great production on this one...its cool that you two get to collaborate like this, a good mix of styles. My only nit would be that the main vocal sounds a little overpowering in the mix early on...but then I guess it has got a lot to compete with. Might be nice to add a touch more reverb to that vocal? But its a good track all in all....nice to hear Neil's songs in a different sonic context. Fab guitar solo too...

Excellent &mdash 04/16/07 - 04:34:24 PM
I think the production for this song really added to this song. I like the wall of sound approach, yet it's still light and has the feel that the original probably did. Overall just a great song, pop and catchy with lots of weird sounds to listen to. [ Reply to This ]

I need to get around more... Silver I don't know you very well... but I will be paying more attention and going back through your library... I absolutley love the choices you've made producing this... the playing arrangement and mix are all showcase... Neil you must have been exstatic when you 1st got your ears on this... and you really took it and ran with it... I can appreciate how hard this is and what you have put into it... What sparked the direction that you went? that stuff always interests me

Direction &mdash 04/17/07 - 06:05:54 PM
Big smile for sure when I got this track Scott! The direction I took really did "just happen" - I had a few lines of lyrics in my notebook (I write lines down whenever they come into my head), and they just fitted. Melodically, I hummed along into the mic when I first got the tune and got ideas from that (that first hum is the higher harmony in the "choir"). Massi's beds are complete (although he adjusts them after I provide a vocal usually - not so much this time though), so they're easy to work with. I just love getting his "Neil, I might have something for you" emails : )

That combination massi/neil is always a great experience. Massi's tight production is really out of this world. I'm not that much into rock, but damned yes, this is delicioso. And then comes neil with his voice as warm and cosy as laying in the arms of your lover. Really nice guitar work as well... Big bravo from brussels [ Reply to This ]

Intro seems like a cross between the Who's Baba O'Reilly and some Edge-inspired guitar delay hijinks. Pretty cool. Nice edgy music track. Neil - you definitely have a distinctive voice, you sound like a young pup on this one.

I read a few of the other comments. Wow. You guys have an interesting way to collaborate and the results are very cool.. This is a great mix that kept my interest from top to bottom. Very tight arrangement and recording, esp. percussion licks. I thoroughly enjoyed this number and will look for other things you two have done. Glad I got a chance to listen in on your work.
Peace.
