HEy congrats on the baby
My wife is 9 weeks now , More power to ya. this is a very moving listen in a car on a freeway way. Like it would love to hear what you have in mind for vocals

Thanks!!!
...And congrats to your family as well! Yeah I like the driving feel on this too... that's why I kept to a simple pounding bassline on it. The guitar loop over the top makes a nice icing. I'm also going to record some acousic strumming on it...

Thanks.... But...
There's not much playing on it yet, I've been off work for 2 months with slipped disks in the back. not playing too much. The drums are loops... The bass I recorded on a keyboard using the "Session Bass" sound from the rhythm section jam pack. The guitar part is also a virtual instrument synth. i can't believe some of the guitar and bass sounds you can pull out of those virtual instruments... they're amazing!
When I'm back on my feet I'm going to record a chuggin acoustic guitar part and do the vocals. I just put the tracks so far on the Zoom H4 and are going to record my parts to that, then bounce them down to Garageband and see how that works.

Thanks for the post...

Nice start!
I applaud your patience. I tend to rush through projects, 'cause I don't know when I'll be able to work on them again.

I'm interested to hear what you come up with for vocals.

Getting There...
The lyrics and melody are all there, I just have to get them rehearsed enough. There's a lot of synchopation and the melody stays off the beat quite a bit. I spent a day recording vocals and wasn't happy with my accuracy. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
The lyrics are basically a blanket apology. I wrote them at a time when I felt like I could do nothing right and I kept apologising profusely to my wife. I don't know how the music got so upbeat!

Can't wait to hear the final version!!
Very nice soundbed. Sure hope you'll find some time to finish this one. Everthing's beautifully balanced in the mix and chords are sweet as butter (is that the expression?!). If I could throw in an idea, it would be to somehow either take out some of the chorus effect, or simply add another layer of guitar without effect, to make it less "synth" sounding. Also the drums seem to have a compressor on them, making them sound a bit watery (that may be intentional though). I'm just reading that you're plannning to add some strumming on top - right. Forget I wrote this comment:) nice work!

Thanks!!!
I went back to the GB file and you're right about the compression on the drums. It was pretty dialed up... I don't know what I was thinking there. I'll tinker with it on the next phase. Looking forward to your future comments...
Mike.

hooked right from the start...
Do you have a direction for the song??? spacious and etherial pop.. you could teach my kids any day.... I like the attention that you pay to drums... you program what a drummer would play.. and I dug the fall into half time feel...

this thing is cocked and ready to fire... now comes the hard part.. finishing...

Thanks Scott!
It means a lot getting your comments! Direction..... hmmm... I've been around so many different styles that I don't think about it anymore... but I guess I was looking for a real "driving" feel to it. Everything is synthed right now but with the acoustic and vocals coming I hope to make it a little more real. I miss playing in bands so much that I guess I want it to sound that way in the end...

Nice soundbed!
Wow...this is gonna make a really nice tune. Very upbeat. Slightly pensive in feel? Very cool arrangement. Drums and bass almost dueling in places...well done Mike! I look forward to hearing the finished product.

Take care!

I like the idea
of an acoustic strumming over this. It could go in a lot of different directions, depending on what you have planned lyrically. I could even imagine a kind of Tom Petty vibe. Nice clean sound. I'm looking forward to the next stage. Feel better. Peace.

Tight drums, rumbling bass
All that's missing are some severely emotive vocals. What's been keeping you this last year?

what's keeping me...
Teaching! I'm a school music teacher and I've spent countless hours in Garageband but it's on my student's work. I'm guilty of really getting away from my own stuff. I'm hoping to get a bunch done this summer. Stay posted! In the meantime check out one of my students! (just graduated actually!)
