Hendrik Steiner (2)Leon (22)ballad (140)inspirational (79)pop (459)sentimental (5)orchestral (77)contemporary (25)
Description:
Hendrik of the duo mint01 (Steiner & Anselm) asked me to lay vocals on this song many, many months ago.

After being vocally incapacitated for two months by a tenacious virus, my vocal cords are well and I am back to making music, finally! I had a few collab commitments which were temporarily shelved because if my illness, so my apologies to those whom I made promises to. I hope to get to them as soon as I find more time. ;-)

Lyrics:
BEYOND THERE
Music by Mint01 (Steiner & Anselm)
Lyrics and Vocals by Leon

I wanna paint the sky with shades of gold
Watch the colors if tomorrow will hold
Like the story of a day still untold
Let's color the future with streaks of blue
look to the next day without a clue
Sometimes we don't know what is false or true

I don't want to think of what tomorrow will be
The grim predictions of another destiny
I don't wanna know of what the other life is
I don't wanna think of what the sunrise will bring
Will it be summer winter or spring
Try to shun the voice that's whispering

[Refrain 1]
Here's a wish for a world blue and green
Don't you hope for the luster and sheen
Breathe the air of the world we live in
Don't you wish that we all live together
Rather than a life so grim and other
There's a mirror that shows a world beyond there

[Refrain 2]
Here's a wish for a world blue and green
Don't you hope for the luster and sheen
Breathe the air of the world we have seen
Don't you wish that we belong together
Rather than a life so grim and other
There's a vision that makes us all remember

I wanna paint the sky with shades of gold
Watch the colors if tomorrow will hold
Cross your fingers for a tale to unfold
Let's color the future with streaks of blue
Look to the next day without a clue
Sometimes we don't know what is false or true

I don't want to think of what tomorrow will be
The grim predictions of another destiny
I don't wanna know about eternity
'Cause I don't wanna think of what the sunrise will bring
Will it be summer winter or spring
Try to shun the voice that's whispering

[Repeat Refrain 1 & 2]

Welcome back &mdash 04/15/07 - 05:30:35 AM
Leon - it's great to have you back and giving us the gift of another track. Really sorry to hear about your throat problems, but on the evidence of this, you are completely recovered.
This is a really great collab guys - the music builds up beautifully over the length of the track - it sent a shiver down my spine when the violin came in at the end, married with the myriad wonderful vocals in the chorus. The mix is great on this - all the vocal harmonies are well defined, and don't clash with the instrumentation.

Lyrically, this calls to my mind Tolles book 'The Power of Now' living in the moment, and ignoring the chattering voices in your head. It's a book close to my heart, and this track seems to encapsulate that philosophy beautifully.

Stirring stuff for this Sunday morning -- it realy soothed me.

Thanks guys

Steve

Thanks for passing by and analyzing this song. Wow, I didn't know that there is such a book, but indeed I was thinking about how wonderful it is to live in the HERE and NOW when I was writing this song. I am at a crossroad in my life right now, and I have been worrying a little too much about the future, so I did feel that this song emboldened me to confront or enjoy today before dealing with tomorrow. Guess I gotta buy myself that book, too! :-)

You have such a pleasant voice. Great singing, good lyrics and a good composition. The music and vocals are made for each other. Well done, both of you!

I hope to be on your next Christmas, or whatever-huge-event, Macjammers grand collaboration, if there will ever be one again. :-) Thanks for your appreciation.

I really missed you. I think I had the same #^%!!^$&!!! virus all through February so I empathize.

This is a very beautiful ballad. Very green. Very spiritual. A very lovely melody. The build-up is magnificent. And you definitely have your vox back Leon! Fabulous vocal delivery!

Kudos! Bravo and Encore!

A gem &mdash 04/15/07 - 03:34:59 PM
Great to hear you are feeling better. It obviously hasn't had a lasting effect on your perfect vocal ability. Again you are a phenomenon, truly a gem and gift to this community. Great collab you guys. Such a beautiful song. I look forward to hearing more.

Aw, man, you are too kind! Thanks for your confidence in my voice. Your compositions have been a joy to sing, too, and I hope to work with you again sometime soon when our schedules allow. Hope you have an awesome summer in Michigan. I am originally from Ann Arbor by the way and my parents still live there. :-)

Thanks for the listen, sweet goddess of Vancouver. Much as I would like to depart from my romantic/sentimental style and try to rock it out once in a while, I could not resist to collab on great music like this one from mint01. I struggled a bit with the kind of vocal arrangement I wanted to do on this one, since it has a bit of pop and world in it. The medieval musical atmosphere, however, made me lean towards a more operatic/orchestral rendition, and I think it did work. I am hoping to do more work with these guys. Their music is warm and engaging.

Now that my voice is well, I am hoping to get back to some of the collabs that were shelved. I did a little vocal scratch previously on one of your songs, and I now realize why jazz is so different (and difficult) from all other kinds of music. Jazz is quite a challenge, so I'll be taking a little time on that :-)

Thanks for passing by!

Hey, Michael! &mdash 04/18/07 - 11:11:19 AM
Thanks for always being appreciative of my voice. Mint01 did the lion's share of artistry in this song, so much credit goes to them.

As for collabs, they will becoming. As you can read, I've been apologizing a lot for the shelved projects because of this darn virus :-) I find your rock songs really suiting my voice, so we'll see how it turns out.

Great vox (as expected) - so confidently big in the mix. Lovely harmonies over that simple yet effective backing.

Now just stand back, don't BREATHE on me! :)

Did I metion your amazing voice? Lovely stuff! You could make singing a telephone book interesting.
Cheers,
Neil

Ok, I won't sneeze my virus upon you, but don't you have enough spiders and scorpions and snakes there to bother you in Australia? Just kidding!

Thanks for your encouraging remarks. I always feel good after reading your comments! Is that part of your job as a psychotherapist? hehe. ;-)

Nice &mdash 04/17/07 - 09:44:46 AM
This song has echoes of Lennon's "Imagine" lyrically. Excellent strong vocals. Nice example of where the music supports the vocals and not vice versa. Catchy melody line. Welcome back indeed!

Thanks for the high praise! This song started out as a therapy to drive out all the demons in my mind...and later evolved into a utopian theme. I love what you said about the music supporting the voice rather than the other way around. That was the keenest and most satisfying observation anyone has said about this song so far. It may have been incidental, but maybe subconsciously I found a way to highlight the great music without being vocally overhwhelmed.

absolutely wonderfully done... you don't just sing the notes... you wrestle up the emotion... a great arrangement...this must have been fun... when you reach up high, your voice remains warm.. and the melody has a very classic heritage vibe... smart stuff...

passionate & convincing all through

Welcome back Leon - it's been a pleasure to watch and hear your evolution as a vocalist and around each corner is another awe-inspiring performance. Of course, working with different people brings out hidden strengths and abilities and you've got quite a partner in Mint - the music is absolutely stunning. Finally, the words are inspirational in a global way - no matter what your faith, there is something here for everybody with eyes to see and ears to hear. And what a true gift - a song that can very easily be universally received!

bloody hell, the Maker gave you a hell of a voice, leon (this is the first time I'm listening to your amazing voice ... and won't be the last). Even if I hate comparisons (but permanently use them) it pleasantly reminds me of Midge Ure's voice. I think, u have the potential to become a big one.

Leon I discovered your voice with "Ever After" a collaboration with Brandaman. Really I like it.

Triumphal &mdash 05/05/07 - 09:10:54 AM
A triumphal march of notes. I like the way this tune swells with sounds and voices and purpose and ends with two very human and very vulnerable hands.

Applause! &mdash 07/28/07 - 02:47:25 PM
Leon, you truly have a wonderful voice that would be appreciated on a stage.

This dramatic piece is well-arranged to provide a showcase for that very point.

The lead vocal and harmonies are very much arranged as they would be for a musical stage play presentation by an ensemble.

Have you ever given musical theater a try? I have a feeling a good musical director would find a feature role for you, if you showed an ounce of acting ability.

Much applause... nicely done, Leon. And a very powerful song and arrangement by Mintor. ;)

Fantastic job. I have done several collabs with Hendrik and Karl. Your vocal solution soars to new heights. I dwell in the baritone-low tenor region. You write wonderfully and weave contrapuntal magic. You are a star in my book of dreams. Fantastic. We should hit a coffee shop or amateur hour stage someday together in the Twin Cities, just for kicks.
