Just as a matter of policy... &mdash 04/16/07 - 08:26:55 PM
I have a predispositon to love all iterations of this tune...
I like the slow and soulful take on this one, and the slide work really suits it... The comparison I'd make here is to Mark Knopfler's tone on 'Brothers In Arms'...

i am really having some fun with the slide. it's hard work actually. I made so many alterations to this, and ended up in pretty much the same place, although I do think this version sounds a little more sad where the first one almost had an angry feel to the guitar....also worked alot on mysti's vocal parts...so that the hopeful parts are as important as the questioning voices of the guitars...
she is a natural wonder....thanks again to mysti! [ Reply to This ]

Dire Straights &mdash 04/17/07 - 03:39:17 PM
This reminds me a lot of the intro to Brothers in Arms. Very nice. I knew it was a strat before I read it, just can't beat a strat. [ Reply to This ]
Wow! &mdash 04/17/07 - 03:55:42 PM
This is a great arrangement of a song which has been played and played and played. Something which no one has mentioned yet is how beautifully and subtly the various keyboards accompany the guitar playing. I know I'm crazy, but I'd love to hear a version with a vocal as well. Not to replace what's here, but to add to it. I always liked the lyrics. I've almost always heard it as a bluegrass piece, never in this kind of musical context. It would make for a really long song, but (personally) I wouldn't care one bit. You could go on for a half hour, verse->chorus->solo and repeat and I'd still make space for it on my iPod. thank you! &mdash 04/17/07 - 05:17:31 PM
it is very kind of you to say that! I hope you will have a listen to the original version...
i appreciate it so much

Impact &mdash 04/18/07 - 12:55:55 PM
Anytime you take on a new tool, in this case, the slide, there is a learning curve. Whether you work with it on new pieces, or use it to re-work older things, what is important is you find ways to use it in your music-making. Because a learning process is frustrating, it also is rewarding. I think you can feel that process going on in this rendition. For me, that makes it especially interesting. What's also apparent is the challenge of learning the slide is re-invigorating your approach to music. Whether this becomes a short term experiment or a long term enthusiasm remains to be seen, but for now, it's exciting to witness its impact on a musician that's been around for a long time. Just excellent! &mdash 04/18/07 - 04:28:39 PM
I have to say that I'm not very familiar with the opening to "Brothers in Arms", but in tone and sustaining of mood, with the keys and Mysti's lovely voice (which is an ethereal human synthesizer in its own right), this had the same powerful effect on me as "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Like being suspended in liquid with eyes to see for light years. Absolutely beautiful. [ Reply to This ]
very very nice &mdash 04/18/07 - 08:11:37 PM
I was just thinking the other day that we have lost our pink floyd love... the energy will never be recreated ....but wow very cool...as close to floyd's soul as Ive heard . That really is a huge complement for me to say that. nice vocals music was sweet production awsome. soothed my soul thanx you so much for sharing

I know &mdash 04/19/07 - 04:29:26 PM
you love the blues (I do too :-). And god knows you embody that genre with your passion and chops...but...its when you do these pieces that stretch out and create mood, ambience, atmosphere from another place and time that really blow me away. This shines. It makes me pause, think, contemplate and quite frankly never want the tune to end. Superb re-working. Warmer, deeper and ziti-fied. Mysti's vocals are indeed unreal. Surreal!

Love this &mdash 04/19/07 - 09:20:18 PM
Love this, and i totally get the Floyd vibe various people have mentioned. Kind of makes me think of The Division Bell (a much underrated album) in terms of mood and ambience. Beautiful playing throughout, and the vocals are sweet. Nice work. [ Reply to This ]
Great job &mdash 04/20/07 - 07:46:52 AM
Fantastic! I hear the "brothers in arms" reference in the intro, and a little bit of Pink Floyd when the piano enters. Real nice guitar playind and arrangement. Only thing I found myself wishing sometimes was that Mysti's voice were just a bit more prominent. Great job here - bravo! [ Reply to This ]
Wafaring... &mdash 04/20/07 - 03:48:45 PM
I was not/am not familiar with any of the references this piece makes, so my reaction is without any prior prejudice... I just find the number to be so incredibly introspective and thoughtful. Wonder guitar work...I do wish the vocal were out front more because it is really beautifully performed. The piece is plaintive and soothing and sad and touching all at once. I totally understand your rededication and I hope all of those families have a chance to hear your wonderful song. Bravo.
Peace.
