Description:
This is a quiet minimalist piece that began with a room recording of a Yamaha drum machine played through a Sequential Circuits Pro One synthesizer with small parameter tweaks during recording. I followed with two electric bass tracks and one electric guitar track, a shaker loop, and then sparingly, two synth loops from TUMI. The vocals are not Vicki - it's a short wave number recording from The Conet Project. I chose one of the simplest one I could find and dropped it into the piece where I thought it should start. It actually ended as the piece ended. That was the last thing I did - no further editing or tweaking - I set a level and let it play. Here it is.

i'm probably first agaln. but i was innocently sitting here.
this really is a great piece. great ambience in the mind space.
thanks i needed mellower sounds opposed from shoveling gravel around in my driveway.
bud
The sound of shovelling gravel could make a great piece - but I guess actually shovelling gravel isn't that much fun. Thanks for paying attention Vic. You sure you don't have a MacJams decoder wristwatch or something?

...and the balance of the whole thing overall. Makes me think of Boards of Canada (although it's hard to put my finger on why...). Hypnotic, and absorbing. Sweet.

I'm a Boards fan. I thought of going towards Young Marble Giants at first - but I eneded up here. Thanks for stopping by.

...about this. The sound of the lp, maybe? Very effective. I actually got kind of choked up, bud.
bud
has an emotional pull - don't it? Glad you enjoyed this little number.

Bud,
Nice Piece. I love process pieces like this. Sonny Jim is wrking on a dance piece right now that I am mastering. This sounds like it could fit right in in a way. The minimalist vocals are great. I have a song I did years ago where the lyrics are only numbers being sung. Numbers have a beauty all their own.

the Sonny Jim collab - be sure to drop me a note when it's up. I'm a sucker for process and repetition. This kinda goes back before my 4 track when I used to do boombox experiments in my bathroom. Of course one of the greatest number pieces is Einstein on the Beach. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Everytime I play this, my phone starts ringing.
Great stuff Bud, but I'm going to have to change my number.

if you haven't heard the Conet Project recordings you really should check them out - I think you'd dig it. There at www.archive.org - a great source for all cool things.

thanks for the link mum

One door closes and another one opens, but hell is in the hallways.

That computer chick doing the vocals could double as a sex operator in her down time. With all joking aside I really like the ambiance of this piece and the numbers are sort of errie. I guess computer voices in general creep me out . It has an almost apocalyptic feel to it. Nice job bud.
bud
In this case I don't think the voice is a computer - it's a real person broadcasting number series code over shortwave radio during the cold war. See above post for more info.
8piscean8
My bad, I was sure it was a computer voice but you are correct. Human female vocie indeed. Makes it even more creepy.

The voice really makes this kind of spooky. This was an interesting trip, kind of like the song snippets that go round and round in your head... but very relaxing. I really like the art... looks like a disgregated video signal and/or a warped close up of a halftone print, or somewhere in between. Nice work, bud.
bud
the image is some processed video I found on google. I don't know what disgregated video is. Did you mean disaggregated? Still a mystery to me though.
This stays with in the mind. Everyone says ambient but i think more hypnotist.Greatness in minimal voices I think I will play those numbers the next time I try my hand at lotto. I love the randomness of this the way you let it all fall into place that is what makes it great. Excellence alll around
bud
I appreciate the support. Now that you're hypnotized send me your account numbers and passwords.

Soothing, unusual and the perfect layer for just about any (further) treatment. Downbeat, trip hop or simply the way you have it, really! Especially towards the end the added loops seem to match the rhythm of the guitar better than in the beginning, where they just sound a little bit off rhythm. The voice sample works well too. I really dig it! Nice job.

Brilliant!!!
