the very best music you have posted here, dr. aerojet is a very good influence on you indeed, and his contribution here is awesome.

nice work.

personally, the only thing i dont care for is the effects on the guitar solo...a sweet natural tone would be nice in there.

wow &mdash 04/17/07 - 01:43:15 PM
great playing
I love this genre...it take me back to the Corea days when Stanly Clark was his anchor and Dimiola was a young kid setting the bar higher and higher. (I don't know if you've ever herd "Music Magic" or a host of other Return to Forever Recordings)
This tune is in the same class
top notch my man...
you are a true talent!

Sick! &mdash 04/17/07 - 03:45:13 PM
LOL, ha, this does totally sound like an 80's Al DiMieola track. The bass playing is pretty stellar.

oh my &mdash 04/17/07 - 06:28:42 PM
oh but it's all MIDI...I suppose I'll take credit for making it sound real. Thanks though!

Really loving this &mdash 04/17/07 - 04:40:08 PM
Thats the great thing about fusion: it allows so many other styles and genres to contribute to its structure. A very well made song. Doc on the guitar adds a great dimention to this jam.

Impressive post guys! &mdash 04/17/07 - 06:50:39 PM
This is a style of music I could never play, but have always enjoyed (even in my country rock days - when the other guys in the band weren't looking!). Joel, the keys are awesome, and the bass sounds as real as could be from midi. Great sounding drums and percs. Chad - I agree with Fran, this is some of the best playing from you that you've posted here.
Totally impressive!
Neil

Most excellent! &mdash 04/17/07 - 07:15:25 PM
Joel - You sure do rock those keys, man. And an excellent composition. Not to mention the production!
Doc - Very nice playing. I do think, though, that some parts of the solos would've sounded better with a little less effects. But still great playing!

An excellent collab, you guys!

What's remarkable here.... &mdash 04/17/07 - 08:36:34 PM
...for all that it's fusion, is the amount of restraint you guys are showing, and especially young Dr. Bizarre...

Good sense about knowing when to lay out and knowing what NOT to play as well as finding the way in...

I'm okay with the effects on the guitar... I actually LIKE the delayed/echoing effect as the guitar first comes in...

Really good collaboration, you two...

Ed

Awesome...awesome &mdash 04/18/07 - 10:15:49 AM
Joel's youthful energy meets Chad's Bizarre imagination, and that collision of two great talents is nothing less than explosive. Woowwoooh!

yo &mdash 04/18/07 - 03:52:14 PM
The drum programming here is awesome. I love the stereo spread, particularly in the middle.

The song is totally fusioned out as you say. Backing tracks are well thought out, balanced and produced.

The guitar is very well played but I gotta agree with ziti - something about the tone is not sitting right with me. There is a lot of unfocused high end that is adding a buzzy/fizziness to the sound.

Chad, what I'd really like to hear from you is your guitar played and mic'd through a real tube amp! That is my challenge to you... your playing can be quirky and imaginative and experimental and daring... but the tone never lives up to the vision. You're doing yourself a disservice playing through an amp modeler.

Just one man's opinion. Hope you're not offended because it's not meant to be mean. I just want to hear you excel the way I think you can.

Mason

Pro &mdash 04/19/07 - 04:45:48 AM
Its so difficult to do real technical stuff and still maintain some soul but this track manages to do just that. I don't often listen to Jazz but this really deserves to be listened to by anyone who claims to love music.

On the Guitar effects front I am usually a more is cool kind of guy so it didn't worry me in slightest. I think the track would not have been as inventive if the tone had been straight.

sheesh... &mdash 04/19/07 - 08:41:18 PM
nice playing absolutley... I like the space that theguitar takes up... the playing is hot, but it washes like a pad at times in a very cool way, without ever loosing it's bite... I know you've gotten several "return to forever" comparisons... but how could we not... this is an excellent piece...

Speechless &mdash 04/20/07 - 11:23:11 AM
I'm rarely speechless when it comes to critiquing music, but this track is unbelievable!! Let me start with the marvellous and top level keyboard solos and chord structure. You're a phenomenon, not just a talented musician! Still can't believe how you can program the drums, write the music and play the instruments making them sound like they're played in live. Fine after a few decades of playing with different musicians live and so forth, but if I remember correctly you're not even 20. I'm sure you've been called a genius before. All references to Return to Forever are quite justified, never thought I would hear anything like that sound in 2007 but the I wouldn't be surprised if both Chick Corea and Al DiMeola & band would be surpised and flattered that the style they perfected back then is well and alive (I mean that as a compliment, not to say your song is not original suffice to say).
The guitar playing, imho, is the Doctor's best so far. The sound works well with the mix and is adds the extra edge to the performance. Rarely give tens, but this song truly deserves to be noted and admired. That kind of musicianship is rarely found, not anywhere but especially not on a free website!

I cannot help but smile; this is just so good! Joel, you are a huge talent; I hope you continue to develop it. I know you do well in many styles of music, but for me jazz is the one that you do best. And Dr. B, no less talented, and a heck of a guitar player. I am hugely impressed, guys.

FAV FUSION &mdash 04/26/07 - 07:20:21 AM
Man, I totally dig this track. I love the chromatic fast lines, the stuff outside the scale, the jazz progressions. Fine electric piano, man, really fine. Great guitar playing too, altho the reverb is a little sci-fi for my ears, except during some transitions. The track drives, what a cool journey, really well thought through, full of soul and mind. I really dig it! This is my fav fusion tune on MJ so far, across the board.
