Description:
A jam bed by my Mj brother Hectorious. I originally added some piano and left sections open for possibly another collaborator (still holding out!...original still up at Hectors page). But in the meantime fell in love with the jam all over again and decided to fill it out a wee bit more.

Hector, many thanks for putting so much of yourself out there on this site for people to enjoy. SGU

impressive &mdash 04/17/07 - 04:10:05 PM
very soothing, beautiful piano.

and the brass - is that synth?

i don't who of you did what, but obviously both of you are talented.

funny how that funky bass line overlaps with the upright and then goes away to return later. and how the synth blends with the acoustic so naturally. invites relistens.

its 90% Hector ;-) We appreciate you checkin it out and leaving such a thoughtful comment. The horn line was from a synth patch from my Korg Triton, I've been die'n to use it somewhere and this one seemed like a good fit.

Vic, I'm glad you checked it out (esp the end!) :-) hector asked me if he should take the guitar & stuff out to make more room to solo, nooooo! I think the end is the best part (esp the guitar)

The two of you impress me in two ways... &mdash 04/17/07 - 09:01:33 PM
First off, you have really amazing chops.

Second off, for guys with really amazing chops, you're both really 'giving' as musicians. You make things for other people to play, you play on other people's stuff, you leave room for other people, and you play in a way that makes other people look good. You're supportive.

This is another really fun tune, another real treat, in what feels like a string of 'em today...

So laid back and so groovy! Love the whole thing, and could listen over and over. Slight disappointment at the familiar (though maybe chopped?) guitar loop towards the end though, but hopefully in the next version you can get a guitarist to do something live - I wonder what Mcboy is up to? Even though I really enjoyed the earlier version, this is a definite improvement! Excellent!
Cheers,
Neil

Love the professionalism of the recording, the ideas are high on the scale of improvisation. Love the funkyness at the middle and through. Made me smile- good trick to do that karma.

this is great guys - a lovely , big spacey sound that drips down you. The horns and piano are excellent ... and I'm always a sucker for the brushes! The playing on this sounds really natural - I'd love to hear this piece live ... in a dark, sweaty club. Love how you use natural and processed sounds - they blend really well , and give the track a lot of interesting textures.

Top notch work, guys - smart and steamy.

Open Airiness... &mdash 04/19/07 - 03:34:58 PM
...Very ecclectic mix with a touch of gravity to ground this ever so rightly. Amazing soundscape created by all involved. The synthy brass has a thintastic sound (good). The other incidental synths work well as panned partners. Piano is ever so pranceful, with the bass and drums dancing in and out. Then the guitar sneaks itself in. Excellent.

Silky, evolving, like a journey, or soundtrack. Nice use of differing reverbs, a sense of dimension. Really nice NuJazz. Soft and hip and unobtrusively mist-like. (I would have preferred a coda or ending, tho. It kid of just stops.)

Tobin, 'preciate that. Sort of got lucky there with matching up ambiences. Hector sets em up nice, and then if I'm lucky the reverb on a particular patch will sync. I agree its got a soundtrack type of thingy goin on.

Joel, thx for swingin round. I played the piano parts and the elect. piano rythym part at the end (MIDI). Hector did that dazzlin walkin bass line. I think the rest he did with loops. As was I, impressed in his ability to make it all so seamless.

Loops &mdash 04/23/07 - 04:15:02 PM
In this song I made the bass line first with a scratch drum beat. I took out the scratch drums added some new one and then built every thing else around it but also making room for other parts. When that was all done I sent it to my Pal John to put his finishing touches to it.

Thanks:0}

I like the way you blend the jazz to techno elements. The trumpet sounds sweet. The piano is wild. Is there also an "electric" piano in there? I thought I heard one. I like the small guitar part in the end. It gives it a "Pink Floyd" feel to it. All in all, Very cool!!

This cut just envelops you like a warm blanket and tells you everything is cool, in the right place and just spinnin' along at just the right vibe. Great piano noodling, very groovy. The trumpet with the heavy reverb is very DJ Crush, you might like his jazz acid house stylings if you have never heard him. What I like a lot is the bass line. Sounds a lot like the bass from the song "Green-Eyed Lady" which was a pop song on the radio from around 1970.

I like the Harmon-mute trumpet.

The piano solos throughout are tasty and in-the-pocket. It's good that you break up the piano solos with other instrument sounds.

Nice work, Karm! What piano software do you use?

[ Reply to This ]
hardware &mdash 06/24/07 - 07:19:49 PM
John, its all hard synths. The piano is a Kurzweil PC2 and the "trumpet" is a patch from a Korg Triton Extreme. Really appreciate you checkin it out.
