Description:
Wrote this on the fly in 2005 with my brother Andrew VanDusen who did the vocals. A dark and moody track that somehow kinda grows on you.
Lyrics:
Shroud
Andrew VanDusen ©2005
I really can’t describe
The blackness in my mind
That I don’t seem to see
If darkness were a shroud
I’d carry it out loud
And walk around in a shoulder length
Big blond wig
I hope for something new
Something light and bright and blue
Maybe a new sunrise
Just wish I could find
Coming up inside
The wish, a compromise
But it’s all too fleeting for me
To put my finger on
It isn’t ever over
And I run, run rover
To the girls with the flaming hair
And in mounting something lame
It always stays the same
Where do you place that’s where
Passions have I know
In attempts to stay alone
But up on the moon I stare
Fix my eyes
I could pray that price
So gratified
Tender Venus lies
So appreciated
I can see you if I squint my eyes
Up on the moon
Would you just wave

It's amazing to me... &mdash 04/18/07 - 08:19:52 AM
...that this song can start out with such a relentlessly distorted guitar sound, and then find its way to such an almost-pop melody. Great vocal. The lyrics are surprisingly romantic. There's a lot of yearning in this one.
I am always surprised, and surprised in a good way, by the depth and range of what you do. Another good one.

Hey Ed,
Thanks for stopping in. Glad you gave this a listen, and also glad you double dipped and listened to Sharpest Tongue, too. I do have a bit of a range of styles I dabble in. This is one of the first songs I have posted with my brother singing. I'm sure he will be happy to hear the supportive comment.
Cheers,
Philip

great sound &mdash 04/19/07 - 06:50:49 AM
I especially like the drone intro and the way the bass creeps into this. The Big BLond wig line is really something. [ Reply to This ]

I too like how the intro drew me in. Talent sure seems to run in your family :) I like your brother's VOX. Very nice track, Philip. [ Reply to This ]
Excellent sound going on here - &mdash 04/28/07 - 08:03:53 PM
it all works - vocals, lyrics production. Nice guitar and bass work too. I've been thinking about Jesus and Mary Chain lately. I hear a little of their sound here - and I like it. [ Reply to This ]

Cool sound Phil, dark and mysterious, an erie feel to this piece, really enjoyed the lyrics and arrangement. [ Reply to This ]

You know I love distortion, this song is great. Very dark, sweet alternative guitar sounds you got going on. The delayed vocals are a cool effect. This is the kind of music you write that gets through to me the most, kind of has a Soundgarden feel, not sure. Keep churning them out. [ Reply to This ]

Very visual - I imagined it kicking in in the middle of a road movie with lots of flames and drugs - thats supposed to be a compliment by the way! Excellent! [ Reply to This ]
