Keywords:
solo piano (18)
Description:
This is a song I wrote for a software contest. This piece makes use of PianoTeq, a new version of the piano modeling software. There are only three notes in this piece that use samples (I only have the demo version that restricts some notes - I hope to win the full version in the contest)

This piece was recorded live using a Yamaha C3 Midi Grand Piano to trigger the software. If you like this song, and are a member of Sonikmatter.com - please vote for me next week.

Hardware:
Logic Pro
Yamaha C3 Midi Grand
Pianoteq (demo version)

Software:
Logic Pro

Kayle, cool compostion. Its clear to hear your influences in there. Very tight and fluid at the same time. really dig the rythymic thing you started to groove on about the 1/2 way mark. If this doesn't wow them, I'm can't imagine what would. Really great track.

Never ask someone what kind of computer they use. If it's a mac, they will tell you. If not, why embarrass them.

I hope you win too! &mdash 04/20/07 - 03:43:34 PM
Wonderful. Very nice voicings, substitutions, and great technique. The piece flows with sunlight, the thrill of life, and the repeated note adds weight and subtance. There is quite a ring to the high end of the piano, which adds to the brilliance and aura, altho it is a tad too ringy. If you win, I would love to know what you think of the full program. Please send me a note. Thanks. And wonderful writing, playing.

I agree that the top end is a little too bright - something I should have worked a little harder on in the mix. Although, I am used to playing my Yamaha grand which is also a little bright, especially in my studio setup.

As to the program - demo or not, I think it is pretty amazing. Considering there are no samples to load, it takes 380 KB on your hard drive, and is very playable - it is nothing short of amazing. There are hundreds of settings to control the sound of the piano - dampoer noise, key noise, lid position, reverb, eq..., you can save presets, and it is very responsive to play.

I just purchased Akoustik Piano and just starting out with it. From my first impressions, PianoTeq is easier to use and sounds better to me. I think that will change the more time I have to play with AP adn tweek it, but I am a little disappointed in the initial sounds of AP over PianoTeq. If I don't win this contest, I think I will be buying a copy of PianoTeq. You should check out the demo.

Thanks again for your comments -

kayle, this is a well-balanced composition. What wonderful work! You play piano the way I wish that I could, and it is something toward which I am always aspiring. Good luck with the contest. If I were one of the judges, then this would be my choice. Take care.

It is nice of you to take the time to comment. I appreciate your vote. I am sad to say that my piece isn't doing as well as I might have hoped. It still really like this song and plan on fixing a few things with it and posting it to my website. If you like, goto www.sonikmatter.com and listen to the great submissions and vote for your favorite (even if it's not mine) - I think you have to sign up, but the board is really great for Logic Users - tons of info.

Thanks for your comments.
