Song 11 of 52. Kind of a loose, indie rock thing. I enjoy this one... hope you all do too. Lyrics and notes are in the "essays and stories" section of my website: http://web.mac.com/reveith/iWeb/Misses_and_Mystery/Home.html

Thanks
Thanks, Lena. Your comments have been very encouraging to me. On earphones: I've been mixing the latest batch of songs primarily on headphones. Which, I know is wrong from a production standpoint, but because of my mobile lifestyle, I don't have speakers anymore. Well, I have some, but they're cheap ones for the computer--not suitable for mixing. The headphones I use are pretty good, but sometimes they cause me to make mixing decisions which obscure the lyric too much. I was recently listening to some of the newer songs in the car and was disgusted with how the mix sounded. As for my wife: yes, she's great. More talented than me. But music is work for her in a way that it's relaxation for me. One of her "jobs" is to sort through all of these rough versions I post and say, "I could make this one better." Eventually, a new version of a song will surface on one of our CDs. Our last CD was in 2003 and is available on SoundClick.
We're about due for a new one. She's been writing some new songs. Three of the songs from our previous album can be found on MacJams as free streams/downloads:
The Medium Is The Message
Black Wings
and Lighthouse.

drums
the drums are well programmed. Song has nice balance. maybe a little bit of Chris Isaacs in there? I'm gonna forward a link to my dad, he'll probably love this.

Chris Isaak?
I hadn't really thought Chris Isaak when I did it, but as I'm listening to it again now, I can definitely hear what you're saying. He could do some of those cool falsetto things he does in the bridge. I can't do stuff like that with my voice. And James Calvin Wilsey totally does that arpeggiated thing with his guitar, doesn't he? Yes. This must secretly be a Chris Isaak song. I'd love to hear his band cover it.

surprised
I'm kinda surprised that this song isn't getting more listens. Very nice tune.

axe
Great guitar tone. The balace between the acoustic and electric is great. Agree withthe Chris Isaac reference. One suggestion. The snare seems kindda thin and bass drum lacks low-end punch to anchor and drive the songs beat. Other than that little quibble, great tune.
Cheers,
Philip

thanks
Thanks for the feedback. I really didn't do anything with the drums with regards to EQ, so that's definitely an area where I could "play" with it to improve the song.

Back in my early 20s, I was practicing bass three hours a day, playing in a band with a drummer who practiced six hours a day and a guitarist who was one the "up and coming" lead guitar players of my home town. Plus, I was writing a song every day. I... [see more]
