Really nice lyrics! Full of great rhymes, irony, more. Great
playing, very cool acoustic guitar groove. Great vocals;
love the resonance of your lower register, and edge to
your upper register; and your just-right diction; but they
are a tad soft for my taste. (What did you use to record
your original vocals, guitar on? They sound great.) The
percussion you added has just the right feel. The end
seemed a little awkward, like you didn't know where else
to go, which may have been the point, but after such a
great track I wanted a more composed end. Still, a great
song. 8-8-8-8.

A mellow yet surprisingly energetic song with layers of acoustic guitar, vocals and percussion (no drums). The bass (or is a guitar?) lays down a steady rhythmic driving groove while harmonic strumming and finger picking layers over top. The vocals have a running harmony which is present throughout and the intelligent lyrics hint at an inner turmoil without resolution. The style reminds me of several artists without imitating any one. Overall it is a great song and I would love to hear more from this artist.

Cool vocals!! Are you singing?? I just love your voice.
Nice acoustic guitar too! I do agree with TobinMueller
about the ending though...
But it's a cool song. I like it!!
I'm gonna go check your previous song :D
SlimGirlFat
and great lyrics.....
I love those harmonies..
I like the off beat rythym you have done also, Nice mid
eight.
I wish I could remember who this reminds me of...

Seriously impressed. Great job...good melody and great voice.

As usual, catchy with great lyrics. Impressive guitar work, too. A very enjoyable song worth adding to my favs list!
If it wasn't for "hacked_to_pieces" telling me about this in
the Macjams chatroom... I might have passed it up
completely!
Very nice tune here. Top notch!

Harmony, harmony, harmony, harmony, harmony,

!!!!!!!
10,10,10,4.
Do it all in GB and do it again--cleaner, perfect this time.
Quality is lacking. I can hear the downgrade in stage 1.
Maybe do it with me. :-)
_nderscore
fab vocals! seems like it's far, far away
tho. work that mix.. maybe chat with the fosod god
This is very good. Vocals come out much clearer if
downloaded into iTunes and played with Piano eq setting.

You weave a very intricate, yet simple tapestry of sound
on this track. It's one of those songs which you can listen
to it again and again and hear something new!
This song is the rare combination of having a great variety
of harmony/melody/rhythm "hooks" going on all at the
same time, yet totally integrated into a coherent WHOLE.
This is truly a challenging thing to achieve in a song, and
you have accomplished it with flying colors.
Excellent composition and performance! I'd be very
interested to hear your next song done entirely in
GarageBand.
brb
i truly appreciate the kind words from everyone.
now i've got to take some time and listen to the music
all of you are creating.
first i'll attempt to answer some questions.
i'm far, far removed from being a top-notch recording
enigineer/technician/producer (though i'm trying to
improve my skills)
for me, it's all about the song itself. ALL of my recordings
are replete with technical flaws but if i allow myself to
become obsessed and immersed in the minutia of it
all.....well i'll never finish anything. i have a difficult
enough time as it is.
that being said, i would love to probe some of your brains
to help me get the most out of GB.
--yes, it's me singing
--i used a Rode NT- 2 to record the vocals and acoustic
gtr.
-- the song is indeed "short" and the ending certainly
leaves you hanging....and i'm inclined to keep it that way.
-- i have many songs and about 7 or 8 " not-quite-
finished" GB tunes
- i would love to collaborate.
thanks again for listening, commenting and offering
advice.
Ringo
sounds like a male version of Rikki Lee Jones. Excellent
singing, just sounds so cool. Guitar work is knock out too.
Effortlessly hip.
Good stuff! very nice and enjoyable to listen
to. I would love to hear more of your work.
fosod
I gotta say it again. This is freakin' cool. I keep coming
back to this page and listening. I'm downloading to play in
my car over and over. I wish I could vote again. More
posts... and quickly, please. I want an album worth
of stuff in a hurry.
brb
thanks man...it's really cool to hear that a few folks are digging my stuff to
some degree.
as soon as i get some free time i'll be checking out some of the great music
on this site....i've only listened to Tobin Mueller's "i wanna
fly"....insanely great.....fosod, i'm gathering that you have quite the reputation
around
these parts.......is your brain available for picking...?
i need all the help/advice i can get.
i'm just not very good w/ the basic recording skills
penguinsocks
your voice is refreshing and the instrument combinations
are interesting. well done! i'm so glad to hear alternative/
indie on the top of the weekly chart.

Reminds me of Kula Shaker a little...
Bunch of 9s from me...

to the vocals on this track and for good reason. Very hot
vocals. This is a great listen and deserves the good
ratings it is getting! Congrats. 8s.

Wow, nifty tune--gonna download this in my favs! Great vocals and harmonies that harken of that Beckensian and older Police intervals/voice type---but definitely of your own flavor. Beatles, too! All the right heros--heroic! Yummy! Must hear more!--M

The lousy tracks are a challenge to rate cuz I always want
to find something positive about them. This track has so
many great things happenning---where do I start.
I like Cameron's "tapestry of sound" description. The
vocals are great, guitar playing is great, the song itself is
very likeable.
Great work.
pooey
I think it has a great analog feel to it. I dig the sound. Maybe some posters
are just too used to the crystal clear (read sterile) sound of the digital
processing going on in GB. Cheers.
...any of us will be lucky enough to hear this year. This is massive, I've been trawling through MacJams and being occasionally impressed but this is the Real McDeal.
brb, finish the album and go get signed. You'll have plenty of choice of labels, they'll all have their tongues hanging out, and then there's the C&W crossover market...seriously, if the rest of your material is only half as good as this, your album will still be 40 times better than 90% of...anyway you get the idea.
Did I mention it rocks with great big trousers made of ROCK!?

Wow, is this good! Can I say that again? Wow, is this good! I can't quite say which is my favorite part because every little nuance is so darn good! If I had to pick, I'd say your unique voice and guitar playing. Fantastic music!

i stumbled across this site. i'm a musician. i don't have garageband, i just enjoy browsing through all the different songs and seeing what other musicians are up to.
i have a question.
why is it that i can't download these files? i click on the icon that says "download" and all i get is an option to download an html file. can anyone help me with this? thanks.
i really dig this tune... there is a very unique vibe to it.
gregorio
I can't download the song either (using the 'download' link). But I can listen to it. Any suggestions?
Nice work.
brb
i can't say it enough. you guys are too kind.
handovergold--- i'm fairly stunned by your powers of
perception. you hit 3 HUGE, HUGE influential nails
squarely on the head.
lubbdupp--- that's about the highest compliment i've
ever been paid. i really appreciate it.
pooey--- i want warm, natural, raw sounding recordings.
i admire the expertise it takes to acheive them, but
personally i'm not going after sparklingly polished
sounds. i don't want my songs to sound like a new Sting
record, i want them to sound like an old Beatles record. is
that so wrong???
yeah i know.... i need a $50,000 tape machine or
something.
lustfortonality--- i'm pretty much a computer idiot
myself, but do you have quicktime?
bsb
Nice work. Funky and free yet deliberate. Again, nice
work!
Beck man! Funky slippery vocals and melody...good harmonies...smart lyrics. Makes you want to hear more...like punch through to the other side. Good production on the acoustic...has a raw sound like sitting right next to the performance...very nice touch....
DeputyDoofy
Love the harmony on the vocals. Like a mellow Alice in Chains or something...
Nolan
Very, very, very good. This might even be the best so far.
I can't get over how good the overall sound is. I'd wish I
could sit down and have you show me how to get GB to
sound like that! I've got a lot more to learn now.
Great playing and fantastic harmonies: just what I love to
listen to.
I'm about to give the highest rating I've given thus far.
Albeit a month late.
bobbyinfinity
I wouldn't normally listen to this kind of gear, the name of
it grabbed me though, being the advocate of nowness that
I am. I loved the guitar styles man, so clear and you've
blended it so nicely with the beats. I think make it a little
bit longer. I was expecting another round.
Cori Ander
A really good sond you have in tha acoutic guitar!
Interesting tune! Originallity!
netgui
WOW ! I like your voice, it fit perfectly, sometimes a bit out of tune but that give a perfect impression of control nevertheless.
I'm a big fan of all your songs - thanks for posting this.
You're very talented btw! (as if you didn't know that
already)
Kevensor
But this is an awesome song!!
Thanks!!
DL/9s!
Has a Gomez feel to my ear.

rightous, the dead the everyone I heard them all while
listening to this song. Dave matthews, I heard Dylan,
Cash. then you stopped and wham wow. beatles jeeze
dude dont ever stop! sentements to your greatness!

You make sweet audio morsels for the ear... I'm ready to
hear the entire album. Hopefully you have something going
on with getting distribution and getting your fabulous music
out to the masses.. They will eat it up like candy... yum...
J.A.Stewart
This is a terrific tune with great instrumental and vocal
performances. With some flute and fuzzed electric guitar it
might have passed as a Jethro Tull tune.
How's that for pulling out an obscure reference? *)
J.A.Stewart
After listening to your other tunes, I think I would add a
couple of other even more obscure comparisons like Leon
Russell (if he had a broader vocal range and didn't slur quite
so much) and Donovan.
But all of these comparisons are really meant as
compliments. You have a unique and interesting sound.
shopdog
The percussion came in, ... dead on. I was hooked from
beat one, ... the guitar invited me to what was coming like
it knew me. Vocals, ... right there as well. Great song.
aclarke
Properly please. I downloaded this months ago and it's taken
me forever to find it on MJ again.
Great song!
mindscaper
well made song. guitar sounds great. singing is just right.
nice job!
aivan
Great groove, great song...
Great production as well... lots of things happening at the same time, but you can always hear each instrument clearly... nice work here... :)
molasses
Where's Brian? No new material for a while now. MacJams ain't the same
without you. Hopefully you're working up something amazing. Maybe a
whole album? Damn, you probably scored a deal. Best wishes to you.
jonx
i was prowling around the charts and found this-really like how natural
this sounds-your playing and singing help you transcend the
artificiality that sometimes creeps into garageband songs. my best
comparison is karl wallinger of th waterboys-ship of fools anyone?
anyway, great job and i'll check out your other stuff-keep on!
nomaramon
cool.
fishnugget
Your vocal harmonies are spot on! Guitar and overall production is fine. I
really like the groove going on in the song ... has a nice behind the beat
feel. Very well done.
j2morrow
Nice full rich acoustic sound and nice change up during the song. Cool
guitar work.
yuriwebboy
. . .Beck a little. I really like the intricate guitar interplay near the end. I like the way the end leaves you hanging. The vocals could be a little louder, and the background noise is a little overpowering in spots, but great song. Really great song.
lavalamp
Dude,
I love your song. Gave you 10's across the board.
Your voice is great and original. Very good lyrics.
Look forward to hearing more.
