well worth a listen A mellow yet surprisingly energetic song with layers of acoustic guitar, vocals and percussion (no drums). The bass (or is a guitar?) lays down a steady rhythmic driving groove while harmonic strumming and finger picking layers over top. The vocals have a running harmony which is present throughout and the intelligent lyrics hint at an inner turmoil without resolution. The style reminds me of several artists without imitating any one. Overall it is a great song and I would love to hear more from this artist. |

tasteful variety You weave a very intricate, yet simple tapestry of sound on this track. It's one of those songs which you can listen to it again and again and hear something new! This song is the rare combination of having a great variety of harmony/melody/rhythm "hooks" going on all at the same time, yet totally integrated into a coherent WHOLE. This is truly a challenging thing to achieve in a song, and you have accomplished it with flying colors. Excellent composition and performance! thanks !!!! i truly appreciate the kind words from everyone. now i've got to take some time and listen to the music all of you are creating. first i'll attempt to answer some questions. i'm far, far removed from being a top-notch recording enigineer/technician/producer (though i'm trying to improve my skills) for me, it's all about the song itself. ALL of my recordings are replete with technical flaws but if i allow myself to become obsessed and immersed in the minutia of it all.....well i'll never finish anything. i have a difficult enough time as it is. that being said, i would love to probe some of your brains to help me get the most out of GB. --yes, it's me singing --i used a Rode NT- 2 to record the vocals and acoustic gtr. -- the song is indeed "short" and the ending certainly leaves you hanging....and i'm inclined to keep it that way. -- i have many songs and about 7 or 8 " not-quite- finished" GB tunes - i would love to collaborate. thanks again for listening, commenting and offering advice. Easy to Comment on this one The lousy tracks are a challenge to rate cuz I always want to find something positive about them. This track has so many great things happenning---where do I start. The best piece of music... ...any of us will be lucky enough to hear this year. This is massive, I've been trawling through MacJams and being occasionally impressed but this is the Real McDeal. brb, finish the album and go get signed. You'll have plenty of choice of labels, they'll all have their tongues hanging out, and then there's the C&W crossover market...seriously, if the rest of your material is only half as good as this, your album will still be 40 times better than 90% of...anyway you get the idea. again i say "thank you!!" i can't say it enough. you guys are too kind. handovergold--- i'm fairly stunned by your powers of perception. you hit 3 HUGE, HUGE influential nails squarely on the head. lubbdupp--- that's about the highest compliment i've ever been paid. i really appreciate it. pooey--- i want warm, natural, raw sounding recordings. i admire the expertise it takes to acheive them, but personally i'm not going after sparklingly polished sounds. i don't want my songs to sound like a new Sting record, i want them to sound like an old Beatles record. is that so wrong??? yeah i know.... i need a $50,000 tape machine or something. lustfortonality--- i'm pretty much a computer idiot myself, but do you have quicktime? On Second Thought After listening to your other tunes, I think I would add a couple of other even more obscure comparisons like Leon Russell (if he had a broader vocal range and didn't slur quite so much) and Donovan. Really nice lyrics! Full of great rhymes, irony, more. Great
playing, very cool acoustic guitar groove. Great vocals;
love the resonance of your lower register, and edge to
your upper register; and your just-right diction; but they
are a tad soft for my taste. (What did you use to record
your original vocals, guitar on? They sound great.) The
percussion you added has just the right feel. The end
seemed a little awkward, like you didn't know where else
to go, which may have been the point, but after such a
great track I wanted a more composed end. Still, a great
song. 8-8-8-8.
