Description
.. 'avin' a larf and rejuvenating an old song as stadium rock to celebrate my soon to be one year at MJs. Inspired by Guitar Hero 2 for the Playstation: red, green, yellow :o)

Written and performed by APB, influenced by all the stuff I was listening to back then: Kiss, Poison, Smashed Gladys, Van Halen etc etc.

Originally performed by an old band I was in the late 80's (under the title "Long way home") when I was still a teenager, dedicated to them:

Rab/Heather: lead vocals
Dave: bass guitar, b.vox
Stevey/Stuart: lead/rhythm guitar, b.vox
APB: lead/rhythm guitar, b.vox
Shuggie: drums

thanks for stopping in Neil. I lost count around 7 tracks of
guitar, it's got at least 7 anyway .. lol. Vocals: yeah,
of course .. my voice just doesn't suit this kind of music
very well - I'll see if I can arrange something.

fake crowd
I like them - very enthusiastic. I especially like the whistler.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how talented a guitarist you are.

But that crowd sounds like they're cheering for the lead singer, too, where is he? Putting on his elevator shoes or something?

Yay Estella :o) !
.. the crowd comes as a handy couple of loops in the
standard loop library with GB v3. I did like the whistler
too .. but I think I need to supply my own occassional "Freebird!" and "taxi for the band!" for authenticity :o)

I wanted to a) have a laugh and b) actually not just stick
live noise onto this but go for a "live sound" in the
production and arrangement ie. sound like two guitarists,
sound like the drummer was faffing at the start and one
guitarist missed the ending lol. So it was a bit of an
experiment.

Yup, a singer may eventually turn up - he went into the
crowd and never returned .. perhaps he's the whistler? ;o)

APB Rules!
Fun fun fun 'till her daddy takes the T-bird... oh, wait; wrong decade. But fun nonetheless! Definitely could use vocals, in my arrogant opinion (IAO). It's great fun as is, but I think vocals might further enhance the experience. Give Rob and Heather a call! Or maybe invite collaborations?

apb said 949 days ago (April 20th, 2007)
LOL
..rules? Nah .. behave now Clark .. I'll make you sit at
the back in the corner, with the other real musicians ..lol.

Well of course it needs vocals, I just didn't want to do
them ..I'll see what I can arrange. Sadly, I've lost
touch with the majority of that crew - Shuggie is the only
one I still see about once a year when I visit my homeland
and it's always a hoot. He doesn't remember much of what
we played to be honest, this might jog his memory but he
can't sing for toffee.

apb said 949 days ago (April 20th, 2007)
...
.. oh, and your not arrogant either, when have you ever been
arrogant??

I hope just because I added crowd noise to this people don't
take it the wrong way- it was just for fun and a genuine
experiment for the production to 'try' for a live feel & sound (which this track lends itself to IAO LOL) two guitarists, faffing drummer, little 'classic' live
ending etc - you get the picture.

me think of Kiss (Paul Stanley) introducing a song on Alive II.."I know everyone's got rock'n'roll pneumonia .. lets call out Dr.Love" .. I just imagined him going "I know everyone's got sore-necks, let's call out the Dr.of Chiropractice" instead .. lol. Man, I need to see a shrink ;o)

thanks Tim - I have at least a couple more of these up my
sleeves .. I'll put them out at my MJ anniversaries, start
a tradition... if only a personal one. Was fun, if a little
hard to remember going this far back .. I've since recalled
the final repeated solo section was slightly more
elaborate .. I'll fix that when I get some vocals on this (besides- you can hear me hitting the tele pick-ups as a palmed out the beats too hard making some clicks all through that bit ..*doh*) .. might use the Les Paul, go for more
two guitarists sound too.

who knows, I might finish enough for a CD sometime .. tack Lena, would you buy it?? I will give Shuggie a call and hopefully catch him, Jerry and Mathew (all old bandmates)for a pint or ten in our usual pub next week when I'm back in my homeland. I try to
be as quick as possible with a vocal version. The R.A.D. Project has kindly agreed to supplying some of his excellent lead vocals for this, as soon as I can remember some of or re-write some lyrics, fingers in many pies- so don't hold your breath :o)

I don't usually listen to this genre of music, but this track is great!! So much good energy (I like how the crowd is screaming in the background throughout the whole song). Timing and mix is quite excellent too, is that a live recording?

glad you liked this Feter. Wish I knew what some of those
chords actually are called ..hmm *scratches head*. I must admit I still quite like the bridge changes (I seem to have been experimenting at that time with those 4 fret stretch chords alot, as it's not the only piece I've done featuring chords like that ..you'll hear but have to wait until my 2nd year anniversary :P)

Thanks very much ..
.. ah, back in the day when your roots were a problem and you were extremely wary of naked flames and ripping your
trousers... >:o)

Really enjoyed all your posts to date .. and a fellow Celt
abroad is always good to hear.

I thought your overall sound/vocal style is shown off best
in Shooting for the Moon but the chorus in Falling Angel is particularily awesome.

I think your style and stevel could
really blend together well .. er .. as well.

Looking forward to your uploads Hugh, quite a gap between
your first upload and your MJ come back you had there.

virtual stadium setting
it is a realistic sounding stadium performance. the mixture of music and audience noise created a believable atmosphere. the swaying and aroma of people was nearly palpable. the music and performance was a reminiscent memory. it burns like a lifted lighter. it is good. 0x0

Hail Hail Rock&Roll
I love this song and it's funny you should mention the band Kiss because I swear they would be great singing this. You Rock dude.
apb said 914 days ago (May 25th, 2007)
...
glad you enjoyed it and commented. It's not very representative of my other posts - I'm a bit diverse...at
least 3 fairly distinct writing styles/bands I wrote for and
played in - hence the variation, although it's been mentioned
I have a style ... hmm ..

I think I might just add some flash-pot/explosion sounds
in now you mention the Kiss influence being quite prominent.

Thanks for listening.

Thanks Jason ..
this was just the earlier instrumental version of
Long way home that Allen sang on later and you faved already :o) I fished a little with this ..thinking it was a song he could really finish off for me- so I was thrilled when he liked it and accepted my offer to sing. Thanks for liking it again all the
same :o)

i like both versions...
... but even stand alone as an instrumental, it does not lose the 'arena rock' feel.
granted, allen's vocals really add to it, but you created the solid musical bed, and it rocks!!!
