Description:
I discovered a fabulous artist here at Macjams named MacFreddy ... and immediately started downloading ALL of his dark and moody piano songs. This one struck a chord in my heart and I just HAD to sing on it. The original song was called Floating (http://www.macjams.com/song/28829). The lyrics and the idea for my version of the song stems from memories of having my own heart broken from time to time (I think everyone knows about this) - I felt especially partial to the line "upon your soul are faded scars - from hurts that you once felt" - I think everyone has a few of those. Why did I choose to sing it now? Hmmmmmmm good question. (you may hear a variation on a lyric which first appeared in Spirit Child - thank you Onesweetworld) ....
Lyrics:
Why does it hurt so much
When someone breaks your heart
Why do you feel like dying
Your soul is ripped apart
Upon your soul are faded scars
From hurts that you once felt
A new scar now covers those
Fresh, alive and burning
It leaves you with an emptiness
Alone, hollow and yearning
You had to know
That I would go
Men know how to rape you
Men know how to break you
The pain this time is stronger
Worse than ever before
This time you’re sure – you won’t survive
Your heart can take no more
It broke into a million pieces
Shattered – it fell to the floor

Such a happy tune! Oh, Alannah, this is a soul ripper. You have wonderful lyrics. I would only suggest a little more attention to diction because it's difficult to understand in parts and it's a shame not to have these words crystalized for questing ears.
Beautiful job here, Alannah. Very powerful. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks J .... &mdash 04/23/07 - 09:11:37 PM
... this is why I always post the lyrics ... because I tend to muffle when I sing sometimes .... I can always hear the words because I KNOW what they are .... and tend to forget that someone who is hearing it for the first time might not be able to pick some of them out. I will try to work on diction ... but I just get caught up in the moment and am not really thinking too much while I am crooning away .... heh heh

Hi &mdash 04/24/07 - 06:00:24 AM
Of course you could post it! Thanks for the collab so far :) Only thing I meant was that (as usual) this is a typical song where I haven't thought it all through :)
Will let you know if / when I do a new version..

... for always taking the time to listen and comment on my tunes .... sadness is an unfortunate reality that we all must live with from time to time - I suppose it makes the happy times all the sweeter though!

You have a unusual and wondrous voice that moves me! Your uniqueness is a gift that you should always hold on to. You have gained my ear Alannah and I shall try to have that remix ready for Xmas! Lol.

I love your voice. Who are your vocal influences? What kind of singing background do you have? [ Reply to This ]
So glad to hear ... &mdash 05/24/07 - 10:22:05 AM
.. that someone likes my weirdo voice! My musical influences I suppose were probably every female vocalist ever out there! It started with Barbra Streisand when I was young ... then moved to Pat Benetar Janis Joplin, Grace Slick ... Sass Jordan ... Alannah Myles ... Melissa Etheridge ...(not necessarily in any particular order) ... just to name a few ... and as far as musical experience goes ... well it's pretty much been singing in the shower or in the car along with the music.

The diversity of your musical palatte is evident in your voice. It's amazing that you haven't had any training or band experience. [ Reply to This ]

I believe about 95% of the songs I have posted on my page were just that ... me adding lyrics to an already finished tune that was posted by someone else.
