the beautiful and cool (by the hamlet machines)

Description
This is the first in a series of songs we call our "secondbest of". These are 2005-2006 songs that did not make it on "fantaste" or "gnostic disco"(since we seem to tend less in terms of music than in term of "albums", beacuse it makes more fun when playing at being in a band and/or because we're conceptual control freaks).
They were harshly and sometimes regretfully rejected either because their sound did not fit the master plan or because they rang the dud alert on the HM bullshit detector, in spite of its notoriously low settings. Atrocious singing/accent being the main culprit, most of the times.
This one was supposed to be the admiral spaceship on Gnostic disco, but somehow never left the ground, being not straightforward enough to our basically pop/punk tastes and having a second verse that is just meaningless drivel.
The guitar sound has a definitive driller-killer ring to it, so be careful with those headphones.

Lyrics
Under the strobelight stars
Under the mirrorball moon
The earth is our dancefloor
The galaxy our disco

Life is a party
Life is members-only
For the beautiful
and cool’s
Dancing society

It’s all midnights no noon
Our skins never have scars
Our oceans no shore
And our highs have no lows

We’re so truly sorry
But you are nobody
For the beautiful
and cool’s
Dancing society

Thanks for the warning!
Atrocious singing/accent is in the top 5 reasons you're on the top of my list!

This has a real interesting package of sounds that I haven't heard from previous songs. Nice flanging effects. And BK's guitar is still dangerous.

I suggest you keep posting the rest of your second bests and let us decide if they hit or miss the dud alert. This song doesn't.

penultimate
class-c clipping on guitar creates ring modulation in the cochlea. contrasting dreamy lyrics release the tension. it is a roller coaster ride strapped to a dentist chair. must find replacement cochlea. 0x0

Combo
The sounds are mixed just right. the way all the contrasts come together makes this song, the ship that took off. Oh yeah the singing well like 5arms said the reason for listening!!!!!!!!!
cjdaley said 945 days ago (April 26th, 2007)
I think
the mix is about okay, too. The idea was to have a jaunty beat to make it a sort of noise novelty song, but I never was quite comfortable with it.

sounds/noises
your sense for combing sounds/noises is musically astounding! The intro is gorgeous. Everything is happy in its place. I really love the lyrics, too.

Thanks a lot
Estellie. I have to give back to My friend Brentford K. Sound what belongs to him, as he does the music for all Hamlet machines song. As to he lyrics, which are my job, I'm OK with the first verse and the chorus, but I have my doubts about the second one.

all but
I really liked the song. all but the static.. I think I understand what you are looking for here. I think its a great song..without the static...or at least
mixed down a bit. I loved all the sounds.

static white sound
we're certainly a noisy lot, but I couldn't tell which part of the static is wanted and which part is a side-effect of us cranking it up at 11, not necessarily a good idea with digital recording. Thanks a lot for commenting.
