Description:
It's been nearly a year (6 May 2006) since Grant(G.W)McLennan died. I wrote and recorded this the day I heard the news. 'Fire' was a subject that crept into quite a few of his songs and 'Bright Yellow, Bright Orange' is the title of a Go-Betweens album.

Hardware:
Epiphone Les Paul, Yamaha FG512 12-String, Taylor 110 Acoustic and Yamaha DGX300 keyboard

Fab tribute &mdash 04/25/07 - 06:36:05 PM
Its hard to believe that its been a year now since Grant's sad passing...he was such a great songwriter, definitely one of my main influences! I ended up recording a version of 'Streets of your town' as my own tribute.
This is a lovely song Peter, you have captured the vunerability and melodicism of Grant nicely on this track.
Cheers for sharing
Steve

How quickly time passes. I've been a huge Go-Betweens fan for years and especially Grant's solo stuff. When someone of a similar age dies suddenly it make you question your own mortality. I understand there is a new compliation of both Grant and Robert's solo material out in the summer but it dosen't seem to offer anything new except re-mastering. I think someone should re-master 'Oceans Apart' - Great album but awful sounding CD - the second press is just as compressed and distorted as the first. Thanks for listening, Peter.

A fitting tribute to one of our finest Peter.

Thanks for your comments. I wanted to try and capture a little of Grant's sound and I am, a year on, still pleased with how this one turned out. Peter

a great number and tribute Peter &mdash 04/25/07 - 09:51:56 PM
a excellent twist of "a day in the life". not in song construction, but through the message and story. may we all shine brightly after our own passing. excellent

Thanks Mike &mdash 05/04/07 - 07:11:06 PM
for listening and your comments. I don't normally record tribute songs but it seemed appropriate this time. The song was written and recorded very quickly and is genuinely heartfelt. All the very best, Peter.

Heatfelt and nicely done &mdash 05/24/07 - 07:02:48 AM
I don't know much of Grant McLennan's music, apart from a couple of Go-Betweens songs, but i can sense the true sentiment at the heart of this. Nicely sung, and produced, with a genuine soulfulness. In fact, it has inspired to go explore his music some more, which I guess is the ultimate compliment for a tribute song.

for listening - I was thinking of doing a cover of one of Grant's songs originally but I felt this was more appropriate. Do check out Grant's solo material - all 4 albums are well worth owning - There was a condensed version of Horsebreaker Star in the US which might be a good place to start (a complilation is due soon). Thanks again for your comments. Peter

Good song &mdash 06/19/07 - 11:47:12 AM
I am not familiar with this artist but i will look him up after hearing the song and reading the comments. Nicely played and recorded rhthm guitar parts and your quiet singing is remarkably effective on this song. Overall sounds like a professionally recorded song that you would hear on the radio.

Bronco, I glad you liked the song and the production. I used my old Yamaha 12-string on this one and, of all my songs, I think I am happiest with this one overall.

Peter
