Description:
As my "making new music" batteries is a bit low at the moment I have another tune collected from my collection of older recordings. Recorded in 1986 at "Lydkjelleren", Sandnes, Norway.

The recording here is from a cassette into garageband and tweaked some to loose some high frequencies of hisssssss...

This is the band "Jims Riff" that was playing the scenes of Stavanger, Norway around 1985-1991.

I made this song as a teenager, so please be merciful;)

In the picture, I'm the one in that shiny jacket, which really is my jacket turned inside out:)

Always enjoy ...... &mdash 04/27/07 - 08:19:05 PM
... these songs from the archives Thor, and this is no exception. When I compare this to the bands I played in when I was the same age, this sounds very good indeed.
Who's singing?
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks Neil, the singer is the guy right behind me in the picture (the second one from the right), Ingve Sandvold.

Very "American" sounding... &mdash 04/27/07 - 08:30:37 PM
...were you here for awhile studying our musical culture? Tom Jones would be proud of you! That's a compliment, BTW.

Cheers,
Alimar

Tom &mdash 04/28/07 - 11:26:05 AM
Well I'd say he was from South Wales... any better?

influences &mdash 04/28/07 - 11:34:15 AM
I think being from a small country like Norway gets you in a position where you look outside the borders to get new influences. So yeah, I guess we listened to many American artists but mostly British, that again where influenced by blues musicians from the states. Like the Rolling Stones (btw, I have ticket to their concert in Oslo in august).

Thanks for listening and such nice words. I bet our singer will take the Tom Jones comparison as a great compliment:)

No Mercy required &mdash 04/28/07 - 10:44:57 AM
I'm lovin' that you let us peek at your teenage work... you had a solid understanding early on... an excellent classic vibe... I would never let you put your ears on my stuff from back then... it's a mess...

as far as the low battery goes... just keep pickn' up your instument... it will come...

the horn section rocks!!

I, too, love "songs from the archives"... &mdash 04/28/07 - 08:59:16 PM
...and I, too, hear a certain "chaneling Tom Jones" quality here, that's pure fun...

Is that you on the guitar solo? If so, it's really nice, great tone and phrasing... The rhythm guitar, bass and drums are nicely locked on this, too...

Elvis &mdash 04/30/07 - 03:41:45 PM
Ingve, who is the singer, usually gets comments about sounding like Elvis or Bryan Ferry. But yes, I too hear some Tom Jones in this one.

Jon Oerjan (no 2 from the left holding the sax) playes the creative first guitar solo. I'm playing the last one.

Thanks for your time and the nice words Ed:)

Dooling guitar licks &mdash 04/30/07 - 08:53:01 AM
Love the opening guitar stuff. Then the horn blasts, nice touch.
I Love this fresh and hip sound. As old as it might be, with this arrangment its ageless.
What part did you play in this band...Guitar?,...is that your solo. Its great.

Any more old gems up that sleeve.
Its fun to reflect with you, when your new stuff aint coming.
It will come back.

Nice jacket.

The jacket &mdash 04/30/07 - 03:46:33 PM
I came to think of that the jacket really was my friend Jon Oerjans that i borrowed for this shoot. But I remember putting it on inside out to make it shine on the picture:)

Cool that you think this 21 year old tune is still hip. And yes, I'm on guitar. We were two guitars in this band. The last solo is mine.

Thank you for dropping in Timothy:)

Inside out jacket &mdash 05/05/07 - 10:13:15 AM
Sounds really good considering that it came from a cassette recording. Excellent, funky ska! The singing is fantastic, and I love the horns and guitar.

what a fun band. love the horns on this. great guitar work, very tasteful with a cool classic 80's tone. I liked both solos, Jon's was controlled and tasteful, yours was more fiery and appropriate for the outro. Whatever happened to you guys?

what happened... &mdash 05/09/07 - 04:03:58 PM
Thank you for such a positive review:)

Actually we still play together. Five of us in the picture have recently formed a band again, and rehearse once a week. The repetoir is mainly original stuff too, so we are having a good time playing together again.
