Fun &mdash 04/29/07 - 12:26:31 PM
My son (age 6) and I are groovin' to this; sounds like a really fun piece. The sounds are kind of classic sounding, like maybe a moog, but a heck of a lot cleaner. Nice job! [ Reply to This ]
Moog &mdash 04/29/07 - 12:32:35 PM
Thanks!
Check out the Remedy synth (keytosound.com). It's a freebie. Kinda limited, but easy to program and it sounds nice.
Re your son grooving: I played a renaissance gig yesterday. Lots of Holborne, Praetorius. At one point a couple of little children were dancing in front of the stage. If you can get little children to shake their tiny booties (so to speak), then you know you're doing something right. [ Reply to This ]
bounce, sway, gliss, swirl, echo... &mdash 04/29/07 - 04:50:25 PM
This is pretty darned cool... Hmm... well-chosen synth voices for the different parts, really fun score, argh, and a fade-out, oh well.
"Doctor, good." "Remedy, good." "Music, great..." "why are you talking that way?" "I thought you wanted to."
Anyway, very fun bouncy piece, I like it! Definitely sets the bar up there for composition and use of synths... speaking of which, what is that blue bottle in the upper right? I can't read the label... Abby something... ab-synth?

Thanks for the comments.
And I apologize for the fade-out. I needed to finish this piece, it was getting late, and inspiration wasn't coming.
I know, I'm a lazy bones.

Has great balance and placement of the various parts. Good groove to get it going too. Good luck! [ Reply to This ]
Fun! &mdash 04/30/07 - 09:41:30 PM
The synth voices almost give this a retro 70s feel at times with splashes of something a little more modern here and there. Good luck in the contest! [ Reply to This ]

This is like an aural Disney ride! It gave me some awesome visuals - nice use of the synth architecture and sweet time change! [ Reply to This ]
Time change &mdash 05/06/07 - 10:16:13 AM
Thanks for the compliments.
Since you're the first to remark on the time change, I'll insert a technical comment: I've been doing lots of renaissance music, where the music switches from 4 time to 3, and typically the beat does not stay the say, but rather the whole 3/4 measure is as long as 2 beats out of the 4/4 time.
That's what I did here. So the ratio is in fact exact.

hiding in here &mdash 05/09/07 - 08:20:23 AM
Hiding in this peice is some little dark parts that indicate that there is a down side to Dr. Good. Cool writing. The beginning of the synth sounds in the 70s were some of the best sounds because they were new and fresh and never heard before. They still work especially on a piece like this. [ Reply to This ]
Dark side &mdash 05/10/07 - 02:33:27 PM
You bet! The doctor smiles very friendly, but have you ever trusted someone with that many gold teeth? And don't trust the labels on his bottles either.
There is something about analog (subtractive) synths. Sometimes they sound a bit dated, but other times I still find them fresh sounding. I'm often enjoying them more than FM or Additive synthesis.
Now granular synthesis is a different story altogether. The lead in the middle section has a granulat delay on it. It's my favourite effect.

For your amusement &mdash 05/11/07 - 01:26:45 AM
Here are the chords of the middle section:
Bm / F / C / F#m / D G#m / Em B11 / F F#dim7 / G
I have no idea how I came up with that.
Thanks for listening.
Victor.

I quite enjoyed this playful tune and think it's quite original, offering a nice variety of themes and a lot of fun. The production was great, simple, clean, and well put together. Very nice stuff. [ Reply to This ]
