Keywords:
jesus (85)kid (11)oriental (8)loops (146)gnostic (1)
Description:
This is another "gnostic disco" wanna-be, recorded when we were working on another sound direction, with heavier bass. I wasn't too convinced by the vocal melody and I thought there were too many GB loops on this, but retrospectively I rather like it, as it's a bit different from the other stuff.
I didn't make up any events in the lyrics, they belong to one of those ancient writings known as "infancy gospels", telling the miracles Jesus made in his childhood. Though the miracles in question seem a bit uncanny, they were supposed to show how supernatural and how disconnected from human nature he was: a somewhat gnostic take on the story, which explains why they did not made the grade among the canonical scriptures.

Lyrics:
Jesus was five when one day
a child had pushed him around
Jesus said ‘here ends your way’
The child fell dead on the ground

The parents came to his father
To complain the kid was a fiend
They were in tears and in anger
But jesus, he struck them blind

When jesus
was a kid
He was dangerous
He was wicked
See what they did
To this brat
Do you wanna die like that ?

Joseph took his child to school
The teacher taught him ABC
When he said repeat after me
Jesus said you’re a damn fool

You teach me B and don’t know A
The teacher hit him on the head
So Jesus he made him drop dead
Turned his back and went away

When jesus
was a kid
He was vicious
He was wicked
See what they did
To this brat
Do you wanna die like that ?

sounds great &mdash 04/29/07 - 02:20:26 PM
love all the sounds. the guitar sounds really cool (you always get a good Cure sort of sound). I see what you mean about the melody, good be a little more....something. The song is so cool, you may want to re-do it. Feel awkward about giving a critique as I love all of your stuff (a critique implies that I know something more than my own opinion; which is surely not the case). Anyways I like this.

true gospel &mdash 04/29/07 - 03:32:15 PM
For us, 80 kids, "Pornography" by The Cure was the true gospel. I'm more a "Forever changes" freak now, but whatever we do, it seems there there's robert smith's hair in it. yuk.

it's not cluttered, as i first thought it was. remixing it in GB3 may have been a good idea. thanks for commenting.

Interesting &mdash 05/01/07 - 11:20:49 PM
Have you noticed the ads that google sticks on this song? Clearly google is no AI yet. Maybe I'll follow that "become a legally ordained minister" link. Since I have a ph.d. that would make me "the rev. dr. diesel". It has a ring to it, not?

Your song? Hm.... The production sounds good. That's about all I'm going to say about it.

interesting. &mdash 05/02/07 - 02:37:19 AM
yesterday I had a "the seven lies of religion revealed" sort of link, so it's working both ways, actually. Thanks for stopping by.

it's production is good, but the lyrics are kinda offensive. &mdash 05/02/07 - 03:47:15 AM
I know you're basing your lyrics on some other track, but i still find this song kind of offensive. I'm a christian myself, so it strikes me as a bit offensive.

offensive ? &mdash 05/02/07 - 04:21:30 AM
The "infancy gospels" were written and used by IIIrd century middle-eastern christian sects. In their opinion, this was supposed to reflect that Christ had nothing to do with human nature and performed miracles before being baptised. At that time, it was a somewhat current opinion but was ruled out by the religious authorities in the following century. So it's sounding rather strange and ridiculous today. It's always been the case that christians are offended by other christian creeds or rituals, as there has always been and will always be many different kinds of christians. I am myself often offended by things I see or hear in that matter, but I forgive easily.

Interesting post &mdash 05/02/07 - 05:03:51 AM
Great set-up musically for telling the story you present. I expect you may need to duck when some people get here - the lyrics are interesting to me, as is the idea of "infancy gospels". Musically I like it - very cool indeed.

a lot for commenting on this. The oriental vibe led to the topic. I'm really interested in all these underground, marginal christian traditions (like the song "overturn" I posted a few weeks ago). I don't really expect to duck about this since all I expect from true christians is nothing but forgiveness.

merely a statement, not a condemnation &mdash 05/02/07 - 10:38:13 AM
I'm not really upset or anything, it was just a minor observation that I didn't intend as a condemnation of your song. I just found it a bit strange to make a song of this subject. My apologies. My discretion was flawed

No apologies needed &mdash 05/02/07 - 11:24:20 AM
I myself found this old text really strange and that's what triggered the song in me. I wanted to convey the strangeness of it. Any comment is welcome, anyway, and I have been more than happy to discuss this.

Nice full sound &mdash 06/01/07 - 05:09:38 AM
I like the overall sound of this. I think the lyrics are very deep a you prove a bit of point here. I'd do something to the production of the vocals, though. What I don't know, it somehow doesn't fit in with the mix. I trying to be honest and helpful here. I can't make out some of the words every now and then.
Very bold and very good song here. That's what rock's about.....being bold.

for commenting. I've pumped up the vox when I remixed this but probably not enough. The fact is I don't sing very loud, especially when i'm not too sure about the vocal melody, which was the case here. That's why I always post lyrics.
