Description:
Thanks to jamorama for adding his flute and voice!
This is the first time I've worked with another musician!
Jamo was attracted to the challenge of enhancing this song. I am honored to have such a good musician's help on one of my little tunes!
It turns out, after he sent his tracks I rerecorded it. It became Hollywoodized.
Steve reminded me of the art and meaning of the original version. That is the chosen version. I not only conceded, but heartily agreed!
I spent a bit of time on the original, to ensure the atmosphere of drudgery. Many of us have had menial work before. I hope that we can create a connection for you!
Thanks,
Doug
Lyrics:
The Line
I've been on the Line
all of the time
all of the time
I'm drinking beer
every year
every year
I'm alone
don't use the phone
don't use the phone
Jim's got my card
I'm workin' too hard
I'm workin'
Say goodbye to old Jim Larkin
when I'm gone
when I'm gone
Do it for me...
Hardware:
Jamorama's flute. My old Fender acoustic, pencil, perc loops, piano loops, nondescript mic.
Software:
GB1 & 2, MidiKeys, Whatever Mr. Jams uses...

Cool collab! &mdash 04/30/07 - 01:34:31 AM
You guys breathed new life into this old Doadar classic. I like the rawness of this. You maintain it throughout even whilst waxing melodic. Nice vox. Flute sounds superb. Love the end chorus...(sounds a bit like like the Greatful Dead...there). Thanks for alerting me Doug. I really enjoyed this.

Hey Mike! &mdash 04/30/07 - 11:46:40 AM
Thanks for stopping, bro! The flute adds a deeper mood.
Steve also did the vocal backups through the last chorus.
To me, the quality of his additional vocals seemed to age and become more brittle from the first to second phrase of his vocal addition.
Interesting.
Peace,
Doug

Yeah, I love this, too. What is it about those absolutely obscure and intriguing lyrics that draws me in? Kind of reminds me of the Doors meets Lou Reed meets Tim Buckley meets Guster. I know someone's gonna come around and say something about the reverb on the drums -- don't listen! It's perfect! It's just that right mix of psychedelic and acoustic that makes this 'other-worldly'. Fantastic mood music. What an awesome pairing. I love the tone of the guitar. [ Reply to This ]

I'm glad you liked it! What fun comments. Mixin' it up, I guess.
Steve convinced me to maintain the original feel.
Thanks for taking the moment!

I really enjoyed the song and the incidental sounds that fill the background. I'll have to check out the original! [ Reply to This ]

I really connected with the original &mdash 05/06/07 - 03:35:11 PM
and this adds some neat effects without taking away from the original feel.
Now I'm trying to get my oldest son to get a taste of this 'lifestyle' this summer. So far, he says he's not interested in working this summer. We'll see.
end chorus is great with the harmonies! [ Reply to This ]
Hey Kristy &mdash 05/06/07 - 10:41:32 PM
a little hard work never hurt anyone! Thanks for the comments! The chorus was Jamo's idea. It has a worn, folksy sound to it. I like it! I hope you get through the semester alright!
